Luke 14
1 And it was don, whanne he hadde entrid in to the hous of a prince of Farisees, in the sabat, to ete breed, thei aspieden hym.
Un jour de sabbat, Jésus était entré dans la maison d'un des principaux pharisiens pour y manger, et ceux-ci l'observaient.
2 And lo! a man sijk in the dropesie was bifor hym.
Or, un homme hydropique était devant lui.
3 And Jhesus answerynge spak to the wise men of lawe, and to the Farisees, and seide, Whethir it is leeueful to heele in the sabat?
Et Jésus, prenant la parole, dit aux docteurs de la loi et aux pharisiens: Est-il permis de guérir le jour de sabbat?
4 And thei helden pees. And Jhesus took, and heelide hym, and let hym go.
Et ils demeurèrent dans le silence. Alors, prenant le malade, il le guérit et le renvoya.
5 And he answeride to hem, and seide, Whos asse or oxe of you schal falle in to a pit, and `he schal not anoon drawe hym out in the dai of the sabat?
Puis il leur dit: Qui de vous, si son âne ou son bœuf tombe dans un puits, ne l'en retire aussitôt le jour de sabbat
6 And thei myyten not answere to hym to these thingis.
Et ils ne purent lui répondre sur cela.
7 He seide also a parable to men bodun to a feeste, and biheld hou thei chesen the first sittyng placis, and seide to hem,
Il proposa aussi aux conviés une parabole, remarquant comment ils choisissaient les premières places; et il leur dit:
8 Whanne thou art bodun to bridalis, sitte not `at the mete in the firste place; lest perauenture a worthier than thou be bodun of hym,
Quand quelqu'un t'invitera à des noces, ne te mets pas à la première place, de peur qu'il ne se trouve parmi les conviés une personne plus considérable que toi;
9 and lest he come that clepide thee and hym, and seie to thee, Yyue place to this, and thanne thou schalt bigynne with schame to holde the lowest place.
Et que celui qui vous aura invités, toi et lui, ne vienne et ne te dise: Cède la place à celui-ci; et qu'alors tu n'aies la honte d'être mis à la dernière place.
10 But whanne thou art bedun to a feste, go, and sitte doun in the laste place, that whanne he cometh, that bad thee to the feeste, he seie to thee, Freend, come hiyer. Thanne worschip schal be to thee, bifor men that sitten at the mete.
Mais, quand tu seras invité, va te mettre à la dernière place, afin que quand celui qui t'a invité viendra, il te dise: Mon ami, monte plus haut. Alors cela te fera honneur devant ceux qui seront à table avec toi.
11 For ech that enhaunsith hym, schal be lowid; and he that meketh hym, schal be hiyed.
Car quiconque s'élève sera abaissé, et quiconque s'abaisse sera élevé.
12 And he seide to hym, that hadde bodun hym to the feeste, Whanne thou makist a mete, or a soper, nyle thou clepe thi freendis, nether thi britheren, nethir cosyns, nethir neiyboris, ne riche men; lest perauenture thei bidde thee ayen to the feeste, and it be yolde ayen to thee.
Et il disait à celui qui l'avait invité: Quand tu fais un dîner ou un souper, n'invite pas tes amis, ni tes frères, ni tes parents, ni tes voisins riches, de peur qu'ils ne t'invitent à leur tour, et qu'on ne te rende la pareille.
13 But whanne thou makist a feeste, clepe pore men,
Mais, quand tu feras un festin, convie les pauvres, les impotents, les boiteux et les aveugles;
14 feble, crokid, and blynde, and thou schalt be blessid; for thei han not wherof to yelde thee, for it schal be yoldun to thee in the risyng ayen of iust men.
Et tu seras heureux de ce qu'ils ne peuvent pas te le rendre; car tu en recevras la récompense à la résurrection des justes.
15 And whanne oon of hem that saten togider at the mete hadde herd these thingis, he seide to hym, Blessid is he, that schal ete breed in the rewme of God.
Un de ceux qui étaient à table, ayant entendu cela, lui dit: Heureux celui qui mangera du pain dans le royaume de Dieu!
16 And he seide to hym, A man made a greet soper, and clepide many.
Jésus lui dit: Un homme fit un grand souper, et il y convia beaucoup de gens;
17 And he sent his seruaunt in the our of soper, to seie to men that weren bodun to the feeste, that thei schulden come, for now alle thingis ben redi.
Et il envoya son serviteur, à l'heure du souper, dire aux conviés: Venez, car tout est prêt.
18 And alle bigunnen togidir to excusen hem. The firste seide, Y haue bouyt a toun, and Y haue nede to go out, and se it; Y preye thee, haue me excusid.
Et ils se mirent tous, de concert, à s'excuser. Le premier lui dit: J'ai acheté une terre, et il me faut nécessairement partir et la voir; je te prie de m'excuser.
19 And the tother seide, Y haue bouyt fyue yockis of oxun, and Y go to preue hem; Y preye thee, haue me excusid.
Et un autre dit: J'ai acheté cinq couples de bœufs, et je m'en vais les éprouver; je te prie de m'excuser.
20 And an othir seide, Y haue weddid a wijf; and therfor Y may not come.
Et un autre dit: J'ai épousé une femme, ainsi je n'y puis aller.
21 And the seruaunt turnede ayen, and tolde these thingis to his lord. Thanne the hosebonde man was wrooth, and seide to his seruaunt, Go out swithe in to the grete stretis and smal stretis of the citee, and brynge ynne hidir pore men, and feble, blynde, and crokid.
Et le serviteur étant de retour, rapporta cela à son maître. Alors le père de famille en colère dit à son serviteur: Va-t'en promptement sur les places et dans les rues de la ville, et amène ici les pauvres, les impotents, les boiteux et les aveugles.
22 And the seruaunt seide, Lord, it is don, as thou hast comaundid, and yit there is a void place.
Ensuite le serviteur dit: Seigneur, on a fait ce que tu as commandé, et il y a encore de la place.
23 And the lord seide to the seruaunt, Go out in to weies and heggis, and constreine men to entre, that myn hous be fulfillid.
Et le maître dit au serviteur: Va dans les chemins et le long des haies, et contrains d'entrer ceux qui y sont, afin que ma maison soit remplie.
24 For Y seie to you, that noon of tho men that ben clepid, schal taaste my soper.
Car je vous dis qu'aucun de ceux qui avaient été conviés ne goûtera de mon souper.
25 And myche puple wenten with hym; and he turnede, and seide to hem,
Comme une grande multitude de gens allaient avec lui, il se tourna vers eux et leur dit:
26 If ony man cometh to me, and hatith not his fadir, and modir, and wijf, and sones, and britheren, and sistris, and yit his owne lijf, he may not be my disciple.
Si quelqu'un vient à moi, et ne hait pas son père, sa mère, sa femme, ses enfants, ses frères, ses sœurs, plus encore sa propre vie, il ne peut être mon disciple.
27 And he that berith not his cross, and cometh aftir me, may not be my disciple.
Et quiconque ne porte pas sa croix, et ne me suit pas, ne peut être mon disciple.
28 For who of you willynge to bilde a toure, whether he `first sitte not, and countith the spensis that ben nedeful, if he haue to perfourme?
Car qui de vous, voulant bâtir une tour, ne s'assied premièrement, et ne calcule la dépense, pour voir s'il a de quoi l'achever?
29 Lest aftir that he hath set the foundement, and mowe not perfourme, alle that seen, bigynnen to scorne hym, and seie, For this man bigan to bilde,
De peur, qu'après qu'il en aura posé les fondements, et qu'il n'aura pu achever, tous ceux qui le verront ne viennent à se moquer de lui, et ne disent:
30 and myyte not make an ende.
Cet homme a commencé de bâtir, et n'a pu achever.
31 Or what kyng that wole go to do a bataile ayens anothir kyng, whether he sittith not first, and bithenkith, if he may with ten thousynde go ayens hym that cometh ayens hym with twenti thousynde?
Ou, quel est le roi, qui marchant pour livrer bataille à un autre roi, ne s'asseye premièrement et ne consulte s'il pourra, avec dix mille hommes, aller à la rencontre de celui qui vient contre lui avec vingt mille?
32 Ellis yit while he is afer, he sendynge a messanger, preieth tho thingis that ben of pees.
Autrement, pendant que celui-ci est encore loin, il lui envoie une ambassade, pour demander la paix.
33 So therfor ech of you, that forsakith not alle thingis that he hath, may not be my disciple.
Ainsi quiconque parmi vous ne renonce pas à tout ce qu'il a, ne peut être mon disciple.
34 Salt is good; but if salt vanysche, in what thing schal it be sauerid?
Le sel est une bonne chose; mais si le sel perd sa saveur, avec quoi l'assaisonnera-t-on?
35 Nethir in erthe, nethir in donghille it is profitable, but it schal be cast out. He that hath eeris of herynge, here he.
Il n'est bon, ni pour la terre, ni pour le fumier; on le jette dehors. Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende.
