Joshua 10
1 And whanne Adonysedech, kyng of Jerusalem, hadde herde these thingis, that is, that Josue hadde take Hai, and hadde destried it; for as Josue hadde do to Jerico and to the kyng therof, so he dide to Hay, and to the kyng therof; and that Gabaonytis hadden fled to Israel, and weren boundun in pees with hem,
Als nun Adoni-Zedek, der König von Jerusalem, die Kunde erhielt, daß Josua Ai erobert und den Bann an der Stadt vollstreckt habe, daß er mit Ai und seinem König ebenso wie mit Jericho und seinem König verfahren sei und daß die Bewohner von Gibeon Frieden mit den Israeliten geschlossen hätten und mitten unter ihnen wohnen geblieben seien,
2 Adonysedech dredde greetli; for Gabaon was a greet citee, and oon of the kyngis citees, and grettere than the citee of Hai, and alle the fiyteris therof weren most stronge.
da fürchteten sie sich sehr; denn Gibeon war eine bedeutende Stadt, so groß wie irgendeine von den Königstädten und noch größer als Ai, und alle ihre Männer tapfere Krieger.
3 Therfor Adonysedech, kyng of Jerusalem, sente to Ocham, kyng of Ebron, and to Pharam, kyng of Herymoth, and to Japhie, kyng of Lachis, and to Dabir, kyng of Eglon, and seide,
Daher schickte Adoni-Zedek, der König von Jerusalem, Gesandte an Hoham, den König von Hebron, sowie an Piream, den König von Jarmuth, an Japhia, den König von Lachis, und an Debir, den König von Eglon, und ließ ihnen sagen:
4 Stie ye to me, and helpe ye, that we fiyte ayens Gabaon, for it was yoldun to Josue, and to the sones of Israel.
»Zieht zu mir herauf und helft mir, Gibeon dafür zu strafen, daß es mit Josua und den Israeliten Frieden geschlossen hat.«
5 Therfor fyue kyngis of Ammorreis, the kyng of Jerusalem, the kyng of Ebron, the kyng of Herymoth, the kyng of Lachis, the kyng of Eglon, weren gaderid, and stieden togidere with her oostis; and settiden tentis ayens Gabaon, and fouyten ayens it.
Da vereinigten sich und zogen hinauf die fünf Amoriterkönige: der König von Jerusalem, der König von Hebron, der König von Jarmuth, der König von Lachis und der König von Eglon mit allen ihren Heeren und belagerten Gibeon und bestürmten es.
6 Sotheli the dwelleris of the citee of Gabaon, `that weren bisegid, senten to Josue, that dwellide than in tentis at Galgala, and seide to hym, Withdrawe not thin hondis fro the help of thi seruauntis; `stie thou soone, and delyuere vs, and helpe thou; for alle the kyngis of Amorreis, that dwelliden in the hilli places, camen togidere ayens vs.
Da sandten die Gibeoniten Boten zu Josua in das Lager nach Gilgal und ließen ihm sagen: »Laß deine Knechte nicht im Stich! Komm eilends zu uns herauf, rette uns und hilf uns! Denn alle Könige der Amoriter, die das Bergland bewohnen, haben sich gegen uns verbündet.«
7 And Josue stiede fro Galgala, and al the oost of fiyters, `the strengeste men, `with hym.
Da zog Josua mit seinem gesamten Kriegsvolk, lauter tapferen Männern, von Gilgal aus hinauf;
8 And the Lord seide to Josue, Drede thou not hem, for Y yaf hem in to thin hondis; noon of hem schal mow ayenstonde thee.
und der HERR sagte zu ihm: »Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen! Denn ich habe sie in deine Gewalt gegeben: kein einziger von ihnen soll vor dir standhalten können.«
9 Therfor Josue felde sodenli on hem, and stiede in al the nyyt fro Galgala;
Als Josua sie nun plötzlich überfiel – die ganze Nacht hindurch war er von Gilgal hinaufgezogen –,
10 and the Lord `disturblide hem fro the face of Israel, and al to-brak with greet veniaunce in Gabaon. And Josue pursuede hem bi the weie of the stiyng of Betheron, and smoot `til to Azecha and Maceda.
ließ der HERR unter ihnen einen plötzlichen Schrecken vor den Israeliten entstehen, so daß diese ihnen eine schwere Niederlage bei Gibeon beibrachten und sie in der Richtung nach dem Berghang von Beth-Horon verfolgten und sie bis Aseka und Makkeda schlugen.
11 And whanne thei fledden the sones of Israel, and weren in the goyng doun of Betheron, the Lord sente grete stoonus on hem fro heuene, til to Azecha; and many mo weren deed bi the `stoonys of hail, than thei whiche the sones of Israel `smytiden bi swerd.
Als sie sich nun auf der Flucht vor den Israeliten am Abhang von Beth-Horon befanden, ließ der HERR große Steine vom Himmel bis nach Aseka hin auf sie herabfallen, so daß sie dadurch den Tod fanden; die Zahl derer, welche durch den Steinhagel das Leben verloren, war größer als die Zahl derer, welche durch das Schwert der Israeliten gefallen waren.
12 Thanne Josue spak to the Lord, in the dai in which he bitook Amorrey in the siyt of the sones of Israel; and Josue seide bifore hem, Sunne, be thou not mouyd ayens Gabaon, and the moone ayens the valei of Hailon.
Damals betete Josua zum HERRN, an dem Tage, an dem der HERR die Amoriter den Israeliten preisgab, und zwar rief er angesichts der Israeliten aus: »Sonne, stehe still zu Gibeon und du, Mond, im Tal von Ajjalon!«
13 And the sunne and the moone stoden, til the folc of God vengide it silf of hise enemyes. Whether this is not writun in the book of iust men? And so the sunne stood in the myddis of heuene, and hastide not to go doun in the space of o dai; so long a dai was not bifore and aftirward;
Da stand die Sonne still, und der Mond blieb stehen, bis das Volk Rache an seinen Feinden genommen hatte. Das steht bekanntlich im »Buch des Braven« geschrieben. Die Sonne blieb also mitten am Himmel stehen und eilte beinahe einen ganzen Tag lang nicht zum Untergang.
14 for the Lord obeiede to the vois of man, and fauyt for Israel.
Einen Tag wie diesen hat es weder vorher noch später gegeben, daß der HERR auf die Stimme eines Menschen gehört hätte; denn der HERR stritt für Israel.
15 And Josue turnede ayen, with al Israel, in to the tentis of Galgala.
[Hierauf kehrte Josua und ganz Israel mit ihm in das Lager nach Gilgal zurück.]
16 Forsothe fyue kyngis fledden, and hidden hem silf in the denne of the citee of Maceda.
Jene fünf Könige aber waren geflohen und hatten sich in der Höhle bei Makkeda versteckt.
17 And it was teld to Josue, that fyue kyngis weren foundun hid in the denne of the citee of Maceda.
Als nun Josua die Meldung erhielt, daß man die fünf Könige versteckt in der Höhle bei Makkeda gefunden habe,
18 Which Josue comaundide to felowis, and seide, Walewe ye grete stoonus to the `mouth of the denne, and putte ye witti men, that schulen kepe the closid kyngis; sotheli nyle ye stonde,
gab er den Befehl: »Wälzt große Steine vor den Eingang der Höhle und stellt Leute zu ihrer Bewachung daneben auf!
19 but pursue ye the enemyes, and slee ye alle the laste of fleeris; and suffre ye not hem entre in to the strengthis of her citees, whiche enemyes youre Lord God bitook in to youre hondis.
Ihr anderen aber steht nicht still, sondern verfolgt eure Feinde und haut ihre Nachzügler nieder! Laßt sie nicht in ihre Städte entkommen; denn der HERR, euer Gott, hat sie in eure Gewalt gegeben.«
20 Therfor whanne the aduersaries weren betun with greet veniaunce, and weren almost wastid `til to deeth, thei that myyten fle Israel, entriden in to the strengthid citees.
Als nun Josua und die Israeliten eine sehr schwere Niederlage unter ihnen bis zur völligen Vernichtung angerichtet hatten – diejenigen von ihnen, welche entkommen waren, hatten sich in die festen Plätze geflüchtet –
21 And al the oost turnede ayen hoole, and in hoole noumbre to Josue, in to Maceda, where the tentis weren thanne; and no man was hardi to grutche, `ether to make priuy noise, ayens the sones of Israel.
und als das ganze Kriegsvolk unangefochten zu Josua in das Lager nach Makkeda zurückgekehrt war, ohne daß jemand den Israeliten auch nur das Geringste hatte anhaben können,
22 And Josue comaundide, and seide, Opene ye the `mouth of the denne, and brynge forth to me the fyue kyngis that ben hid therynne.
da gab Josua den Befehl: »Macht den Eingang der Höhle frei und bringt jene fünf Könige aus der Höhle zu mir heraus!«
23 And the mynystris diden, as it was comaundid to hem; and thei brouyten forth to Josue fyue kyngis fro the denne; the kyng of Jerusalem, the kyng of Ebron, the kyng of Herymoth, the kyng of Lachis, the kyng of Eglon.
Man kam dem Befehle nach und brachte jene fünf Könige aus der Höhle zu ihm heraus, die Könige von Jerusalem, von Hebron, von Jarmuth, von Lachis und von Eglon.
24 And whanne thei weren led out to Josue, he clepide alle the men of Israel, and seide to the princes of the oost, that weren with hym, Go ye, and sette youre feet on the neckis of these kyngis. And whanne thei hadden go, and trediden the neckis of `the kyngis suget `to her feet,
Als man diese Könige nun zu Josua herausgeführt hatte, rief Josua alle Israeliten herbei und sagte zu den Anführern der Kriegsleute, die mit ihm gezogen waren: »Tretet heran und setzt diesen Königen den Fuß auf den Nacken!« Da traten sie heran und setzten ihnen den Fuß auf den Nacken.
25 eft Josue seide to hem, Nyle ye drede, nethir `drede ye with ynne, be ye coumfortid, and be ye stronge; for the Lord schal do so to alle youre enemyes, ayens whiche ye schulen fiyte.
Dann fuhr Josua fort: »Fürchtet euch nicht und habt keine Angst, seid mutig und stark! Denn ebenso wird der HERR es mit allen euren Feinden machen, mit denen ihr noch zu kämpfen habt.«
26 And Josue smoot, and killide hem, and hangide on fyue trees; and thei weren hangid `til to euentid.
Hierauf ließ Josua sie totschlagen und an fünf Bäumen aufhängen; und sie blieben an den Bäumen bis zum Abend hängen.
27 And whanne the sunne yede doun, he comaundide to felowis, that thei schulden put hem doun fro the iebatis; and whanne thei weren put doun, thei `castiden forth hem in to the denne, in which thei weren hid; and thei puttiden grete stoonus on the mouth therof, whiche stoonus dwellen `til to present tyme.
Bei Sonnenuntergang aber nahm man sie auf Befehl Josuas von den Bäumen ab und warf sie in die Höhle, in der sie sich versteckt hatten, und legte große Steine an den Eingang der Höhle, die noch bis zum heutigen Tage dort liegen.
28 In the same dai Josue took also Maceda, and smoot bi the scharpnesse of swerd, and killide the kyng therof, and alle the dwelleris therof; he lefte not therynne, nameli, litle relikis; and he dide to the kyng of Maceda as he hadde do to the kyng of Jerico.
Josua eroberte dann an jenem Tage noch Makkeda und schlug es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, indem er am dortigen König, an der Stadt und der gesamten Einwohnerschaft den Bann vollstreckte; er verschonte keinen einzigen von ihnen und verfuhr mit dem König von Makkeda, wie er mit dem König von Jericho verfahren war. –
29 Forsothe Josue passide with al Israel fro Maceda in to Lempna, and fauyt ayens it,
Hierauf zog Josua mit allen Israeliten von Makkeda weiter nach Libna und bestürmte es;
30 which the Lord bitook, with the kyng therof, in the hond of Israel; and thei smytiden the citee bi the scharpnesse of swerd, and alle the dwelleris therof, and leften not ony relikis therynne; and thei diden to the kyng of Lempna as thei hadden do to the kyng of Jerico.
und der HERR ließ auch diese Stadt in die Hand der Israeliten fallen samt ihrem König, und er schlug sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes samt der ganzen Einwohnerschaft; er verschonte keinen einzigen von ihnen und verfuhr mit dem dortigen König, wie er mit dem König von Jericho verfahren war. –
31 Fro Lempna he passide with al Israel in to Lachis; and whanne the oost was disposid bi cumpas, he fauyt ayens it.
Dann zog Josua mit allen Israeliten von Libna weiter nach Lachis, das er belagerte und bestürmte.
32 And the Lord bitook Lachis in the hond of the sones of Israel; and he took it in the tothir dai, and smoot bi the scharpnesse of swerd, and ech man, that was therynne, as he hadde do to Lempna.
Und der HERR ließ auch Lachis in die Gewalt der Israeliten fallen, so daß Josua es am zweiten Tage eroberte und die Stadt samt der ganzen Einwohnerschaft mit der Schärfe des Schwertes schlug, genau so, wie er es mit Libna gemacht hatte.
33 In that time Yram, kyng of Gazar, stiede to helpe Lachis; whom Josue smoot, with al his puple, til to deeth.
Damals zog Horam, der König von Geser, herauf, um Lachis Hilfe zu leisten; aber Josua schlug ihn und sein Kriegsvolk so, daß kein einziger von ihnen am Leben blieb. –
34 And he passide fro Lachis in to Eglon,
Dann zog Josua mit allen Israeliten von Lachis weiter nach Eglon, das sie belagerten und bestürmten.
35 and cumpasside, and ouercam it in the same dai; and he smoot bi the scharpnesse of swerd alle men that weren therynne, bi alle thingis whiche he hadde do to Lachis.
Sie eroberten es noch an demselben Tage und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes; an der ganzen Einwohnerschaft vollstreckte er an jenem Tage den Bann, genau so, wie er es mit Lachis gemacht hatte. –
36 Also he stiede with al Israel fro Eglon in to Ebron, and fauyt ayens it,
Hierauf zog Josua mit allen Israeliten von Eglon nach Hebron hinauf, das sie bestürmten;
37 and took, and smoot bi the scharpnesse of swerd; and the kyng therof, and alle citees of that cuntrey, and alle men that dwelliden therynne; he lefte not ony relikis therynne; as he hadde do to Eglon so he dide also to Ebron, and wastide bi swerd alle thingis that weren therynne.
sie eroberten es und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes samt seinem König und allen zugehörigen Ortschaften und deren gesamten Einwohnerschaft, ohne einen einzigen zu verschonen, genau so, wie er es mit Eglon gemacht hatte, indem er an der Stadt und allen ihren Einwohnern den Bann vollstreckte. –
38 Fro thennus he turnyde in to Dabir, and took it, and wastide;
Dann wandte sich Josua mit allen Israeliten gegen Debir, das er bestürmte.
39 and he smoot bi the scharpnesse of swerd the kyng therof, and alle tounnes `bi cumpas; he lefte not ony relikis therynne; as he hadde do to Ebron, and to Lempna, and to `the kyngis of tho, so he dide to Dabir, and to the kyng therof.
Er nahm die Stadt ein samt ihrem König und allen zugehörigen Ortschaften; und sie schlugen sie mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und vollzogen an der gesamten Einwohnerschaft den Bann, ohne einen einzigen zu verschonen; wie er es mit Hebron gemacht hatte und wie er mit Libna und dem dortigen König verfahren war, ebenso machte er es auch mit Debir und dem dortigen König.
40 And so Josue smoot al the `lond of the hillis, and of the south, and `of the feeld, and Asedoch with her kyngis; he lefte not therynne ony relikis, but he killide al thing that myyte brethe, as the Lord God of Israel comaundide to hym;
So unterwarf Josua das ganze Land, nämlich das Bergland und das Südland, die Niederung und das Hügelland samt allen ihren Königen, ohne auch nur einen einzigen übrigzulassen; und an allem Lebenden vollstreckte er den Bann, wie der HERR, der Gott Israels, geboten hatte.
41 fro Cades Barne `til to Gazan, and al the lond of Jesson, `til to Gabaon Josue took,
Josua unterwarf sie von Kades-Barnea bis Gaza und das ganze Land Gosen bis Gibeon;
42 and wastide with o fersnesse alle the kyngis, and `cuntreis of hem; for the Lord God of Israel fauyt for hym.
und zwar brachte Josua alle diese Könige und ihr Land auf einmal in seine Gewalt, denn der HERR, der Gott Israels, stritt für Israel.
43 And he turnede ayen with al Israel to the place of tentis in Galgala.
Hierauf kehrte Josua mit allen Israeliten in das Lager nach Gilgal zurück.
