John 7
1 Aftir these thingis Jhesus walkide in to Galilee, for he wolde not walke in to Judee, for the Jewis souyten to sle hym.
Et après ces choses, Jésus se tenait en Galilée, car il ne voulait pas se tenir en Judée, parce que les Juifs cherchaient à le faire mourir.
2 And ther was neiy a feeste dai of the Jewis, Senofegia.
Or la fête des Juifs, celle des tabernacles, était proche.
3 And hise britheren seiden to hym, Passe fro hennus, and go in to Judee, that also thi disciplis seen thi werkis that thou doist;
Ses frères lui dirent donc: Pars d’ici et va en Judée, afin que tes disciples aussi voient les œuvres que tu fais;
4 for no man doith ony thing in hiddlis, and hym silf sekith to be opyn. If thou doist these thingis, schewe thi silf to the world.
car nul ne fait quelque chose en secret et ne cherche à être lui-même publiquement connu; si tu fais ces choses, montre-toi au monde toi-même.
5 For nether hise britheren bileueden in hym.
Car ses frères ne croyaient pas en lui non plus.
6 Therfor Jhesus seith to hem, My tyme cam not yit, but youre tyme is euermore redi.
Jésus donc leur dit: Mon temps n’est pas encore venu, mais votre temps est toujours prêt.
7 The world may not hate you, sothely it hatith me; for Y bere witnessyng therof, that the werkis of it ben yuele.
Le monde ne peut pas vous haïr; mais il me hait, parce que moi je rends témoignage de lui, que ses œuvres sont mauvaises.
8 Go ye vp to this feeste dai, but Y schal not go vp to this feeste dai, for my tyme is not yit fulfillid.
Vous, montez à cette fête; moi, je ne monte pas à cette fête, car mon temps n’est pas encore accompli.
9 Whanne he hadde seid these thingis, he dwelte in Galilee.
Leur ayant dit ces choses, il demeura en Galilée.
10 And aftir that hise britheren weren gon vp, thanne he yede vp to the feeste dai, not opynli, but as in priuyte.
Mais lorsque ses frères furent montés, alors lui aussi monta à la fête, non pas publiquement, mais comme en secret.
11 Therfor the Jewis souyten hym in the feeste dai, and seiden, Where is he?
Les Juifs donc le cherchaient à la fête et disaient: Où est cet [homme]?
12 And myche grutchyng was of hym among the puple. For summe seiden, That he is good; and othere seiden, Nai, but he disceyueth the puple;
Et il y avait une grande rumeur à son sujet parmi les foules. Les uns disaient: Il est homme de bien. D’autres disaient: Non, mais il séduit la foule.
13 netheles no man spak opynli of hym, for drede of the Jewis.
Toutefois personne ne parlait ouvertement de lui, par crainte des Juifs.
14 But whanne the myddil feeste dai cam, Jhesus wente vp in to the temple, and tauyte.
Mais, comme on était déjà au milieu de la fête, Jésus monta au temple, et il enseignait.
15 And the Jewis wondriden, and seiden, Hou can this man lettris, sithen he hath not lerned?
Les Juifs donc s’étonnaient, disant: Comment celui-ci connaît-il les lettres, vu qu’il ne [les] a point apprises?
16 Jhesus answerde to hem, and seide, My doctryne is not myn, but his that sente me.
Jésus donc leur répondit et dit: Ma doctrine n’est pas mienne, mais de celui qui m’a envoyé.
17 If ony man wole do his wille, he schal knowe of the techyng, whethir it be of God, or Y speke of my silf.
Si quelqu’un veut faire sa volonté, il connaîtra de la doctrine si elle est de Dieu, ou si moi je parle de par moi-même.
18 He that spekith of hym silf, sekith his owne glorie; but he that sekith the glorie of hym that sente hym, is sothefast, and vnriytwisnesse is not in hym.
Celui qui parle de par lui-même cherche sa propre gloire; mais celui qui cherche la gloire de celui qui l’a envoyé, celui-là est vrai, et il n’y a point d’injustice en lui.
19 Whether Moises yaf not to you a lawe, and noon of you doith the lawe?
Moïse ne vous a-t-il pas donné la loi? Et nul d’entre vous n’observe la loi. Pourquoi cherchez-vous à me faire mourir?
20 What seken ye to sle me? And the puple answerde, and seide, Thou hast a deuel; who sekith to sle thee?
La foule répondit et dit: Tu as un démon; qui cherche à te faire mourir?
21 Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, Y haue don o werk, and alle ye wondren.
Jésus répondit et leur dit: J’ai fait une œuvre, et vous vous étonnez tous.
22 Therfor Moises yaf to you circumcisioun; not for it is of Moyses, but of the fadris; and in the sabat ye circumciden a man.
C’est pourquoi Moïse vous a donné la circoncision (non qu’elle soit de Moïse, mais elle est des pères), et vous circoncisez un homme en un jour de sabbat.
23 If a man take circumcicioun in the sabat, that the lawe of Moises be not brokun, han ye indignacioun to me, for Y made al a man hool in the sabat?
Si un homme reçoit la circoncision en un jour de sabbat, afin que la loi de Moïse ne soit pas violée, êtes-vous irrités contre moi de ce que j’ai guéri un homme tout entier en un jour de sabbat?
24 Nile ye deme aftir the face, but deme ye a riytful doom.
Ne jugez pas sur l’apparence, mais portez un jugement juste.
25 Therfor summe of Jerusalem seiden, Whethir this is not he, whom the Jewis seken to sle?
Quelques-uns donc de ceux de Jérusalem disaient: N’est-ce pas celui qu’ils cherchent à faire mourir?
26 and lo! he spekith opynli, and thei seien no thing to hym. Whether the princes knewen verili, that this is Crist?
Et voici, il parle librement, et ils ne lui disent rien: les chefs auraient-ils vraiment reconnu que celui-ci est le Christ?
27 But we knowun this man, of whennus he is; but whanne Crist schal come, no man woot of whennus he is.
Mais nous connaissons celui-ci, [et nous savons] d’où il est; mais lorsque le Christ viendra, personne ne sait d’où il est.
28 Therfor Jhesus criede in the temple `techynge, and seide, Ye knowen me, and `ye knowen of whennus Y am; and Y cam not of my silf, but he is trewe that sente me, whom ye knowen not.
Jésus donc criait dans le temple, enseignant et disant: Et vous me connaissez, et vous savez d’où je suis: et je ne suis pas venu de par moi-même, mais celui qui m’a envoyé est véritable, et vous ne le connaissez pas.
29 Y knowe hym, and if Y seie that Y knowe hym not, Y schal be lijk to you, a liere; but Y knowe hym, for of hym Y am, and he sente me.
Moi, je le connais, car je viens de lui, et c’est lui qui m’a envoyé.
30 Therfor thei souyten to take hym, and no man sette on hym hoondis, for his our cam not yit.
Ils cherchaient donc à le prendre; et personne ne mit la main sur lui, parce que son heure n’était pas encore venue.
31 And many of the puple bileueden in hym, and seiden, Whanne Crist schal come, whether he schal do mo tokenes, than tho that this doith?
Et plusieurs d’entre la foule crurent en lui, et disaient: Le Christ, quand il sera venu, fera-t-il plus de miracles que celui-ci n’en a fait?
32 Farisees herden the puple musinge of hym these thingis; and the princis and Farisees senten mynystris, to take hym.
Les pharisiens entendirent la foule murmurant ces choses de lui; et les pharisiens et les principaux sacrificateurs envoyèrent des huissiers pour le prendre.
33 Therfor Jhesus seide to hem, Yit a litil tyme Y am with you, and Y go to the fadir, that sente me.
Jésus donc dit: Je suis encore pour un peu de temps avec vous, et je m’en vais à celui qui m’a envoyé.
34 Ye schulen seke me, and ye schulen not fynde; and where Y am, ye may not come.
Vous me chercherez, et vous ne me trouverez pas; et là où moi je serai, vous, vous ne pouvez venir.
35 Therfor the Jewis seiden to hem silf, Whidur schal this gon, for we schulen not fynde hym? whether he wole go in to the scateryng of hethene men, and wole teche the hethene?
Les Juifs donc dirent entre eux: Où celui-ci va-t-il aller que nous ne le trouverons pas? Va-t-il aller à la dispersion [au milieu] des Grecs, et enseigner les Grecs?
36 What is this word, which he seide, Ye schulen seke me, and ye schulen not fynde; and where Y am, ye moun not come?
Quelle est cette parole qu’il a dite: Vous me chercherez, et vous ne me trouverez pas; et là où moi je serai, vous, vous ne pouvez venir?
37 But in the laste dai of the greet feeste, Jhesus stood, and criede, and seide, If ony man thirstith, come he to me, and drynke.
Et en la dernière journée, la grande journée de la fête, Jésus se tint là et cria, disant: Si quelqu’un a soif, qu’il vienne à moi, et qu’il boive.
38 He that bileueth in me, as the scripture seith, Floodis of quyk watir schulen flowe fro his wombe.
Celui qui croit en moi, selon ce qu’a dit l’écriture, des fleuves d’eau vive couleront de son ventre.
39 But he seide this thing of the Spirit, whom men that bileueden in hym schulden take; for the Spirit was not yit youun, for Jhesus was not yit glorified.
(Or il disait cela de l’Esprit qu’allaient recevoir ceux qui croyaient en lui; car l’Esprit n’était pas encore, parce que Jésus n’avait pas encore été glorifié.)
40 Therfor of that cumpanye, whanne thei hadden herd these wordis of hym, thei seiden, This is verili a prophete.
Des gens de la foule donc, ayant entendu cette parole, disaient: Celui-ci est véritablement le prophète.
41 Othere seiden, This is Crist. `But summe seiden, Whether Crist cometh fro Galilee?
D’autres disaient: Celui-ci est le Christ. D’autres disaient: Le Christ vient-il donc de Galilée?
42 Whether the scripture seith not, that of the seed of Dauid, and of the castel of Bethleem, where Dauid was, Crist cometh?
L’écriture n’a-t-elle pas dit que le Christ vient de la semence de David et de la bourgade de Bethléhem, où était David?
43 Therfor discencioun was maad among the puple for hym.
Il y eut donc de la division dans la foule à cause de lui.
44 For summe of hem wolden haue take hym, but no man sette hondis on hym.
Et quelques-uns d’entre eux voulaient le prendre; mais personne ne mit les mains sur lui.
45 Therfor the mynystris camen to bischopis and Farisees, and thei seiden to hem, Whi brouyten ye not hym?
Les huissiers donc s’en vinrent vers les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens; et ceux-ci leur dirent: Pourquoi ne l’avez-vous pas amené?
46 The mynystris answeriden, Neuere man spak so, as this man spekith.
Les huissiers répondirent: Jamais homme ne parla comme cet homme.
47 Therfor the Farisees answeriden to hem, Whether ye ben disseyued also?
Les pharisiens donc leur répondirent: Et vous aussi, êtes-vous séduits?
48 whether ony of the pryncis or of the Farisees bileueden in hym?
Aucun d’entre les chefs ou d’entre les pharisiens, a-t-il cru en lui?
49 But this puple, that knowith not the lawe, ben cursid.
Mais cette foule qui ne connaît pas la loi est maudite.
50 Nychodeme seith to hem, he that cam to hym bi nyyt, that was oon of hem, Whethir oure lawe demith a man,
Nicodème, qui était l’un d’entre eux, leur dit:
51 but it haue first herde of hym, and knowe what he doith?
Notre loi juge-t-elle l’homme avant de l’avoir entendu et d’avoir connu ce qu’il fait?
52 Thei answeriden, and seiden to hym, Whether thou art a man of Galilee also? Seke thou scripturis, and se thou, that a prophete risith not of Galilee.
Ils répondirent et lui dirent: Et toi, es-tu aussi de Galilée? Enquiers-toi, et vois qu’un prophète n’est pas suscité de Galilée.
53 And thei turneden ayen, ech in to his hous.
Et chacun s’en alla dans sa maison.
