Exodus 21
1 These ben the domes, whiche thou schalt sette forth to hem.
Dessa äro de rätter som du skall förelägga dem:
2 If thou biest an Ebrew seruaunt, he schal serue thee sixe yeer; in the seuenthe yeer he schal go out fre,
Om du köper en hebreisk träl, skall han tjäna i sex år, men på det sjunde skall han givas fri, utan lösen.
3 with out prijs; with what maner clooth he entride, with siche clooth go he out; if he entride hauynge a wijf, and the wijf schal go out to gidere.
Har han kommit allena, så skall han givas fri allena; var han gift, så skall hans hustru givas fri med honom.
4 But if the lord of the servaunt yaf a wijf to hym, and sche childide sones and douytris, the womman and hir children schulen be hir lordis; sotheli the seruaunt schal go out with his owne clooth.
Har hans herre givit honom en hustru, och har denna fött honom söner eller döttrar, så skola hustrun och hennes barn tillhöra hennes herre, och allenast mannen skall givas fri.
5 That if the seruaunt seith, Y loue my lord, and wijf, and children, Y schal not go out fre;
Men om trälen säger: »Jag har min herre, min hustru och mina barn så kära, att jag icke vill givas fri»,
6 the lord brynge hym to goddis, that is, iugis; and he schal be set to the dore, and postis; and the lord schal perse his eere with a nal, and he schal be seruaunt to hym til in to the world.
då skall hans herre föra honom fram för Gud och ställa honom vid dörren eller dörrposten, och hans herre skall genomborra hans öra med en syl; därefter vare han hans träl evärdligen.
7 If ony man sillith his douyter in to seruauntesse, sche schal not go out as handmaidis weren wont to go out;
Om någon säljer sin dotter till trälinna, så skall hon icke givas fri såsom trälarna givas fria.
8 if sche displesith in the iyen of hir lord, to whom sche was bitakun, he schal delyuere hir; sotheli he schal not haue power to sille hir to an alien puple, if he forsakith hir.
Misshagar hon sin herre, sedan denne förut har ingått förbindelse med henne, så låte han henne köpas fri. Till främmande folk have han icke makt att sälja henne, när han så har handlat trolöst mot henne.
9 Forsothe if he weddith hir to his sonne, he schal do to hir `bi the custom of douytris;
Men om han låter sin son ingå förbindelse med henne, så förunne han henne döttrars rätt.
10 that if he takith another womman to hym, he schal puruey to the damysele weddingis, and clothis, and he schal not denye the prijs of chastite.
Tager han sig ännu en hustru, så göre han icke någon minskning i den förras kost, beklädnad eller äktenskapsrätt.
11 If he doith not these thre, sche schal go out freli without money.
Om han icke låter henne njuta sin rätt i dessa tre stycken, så skall hon givas fri, utan lösen och betalning.
12 He that smytith a man, and wole sle, die bi deeth;
Den som slår någon, så att han dör, han skall straffas med döden.
13 forsothe if a man settide not aspies, but God `bitook hym in to hise hondis, Y schal ordeyne a place to thee, whidur he owith to fle.
Men om han icke traktade efter den andres liv, utan Gud lät denne oförvarandes träffas av hans hand, så skall jag anvisa dig en ort dit han kan fly.
14 If ony man sleeth his neiybore bi biforecastyng, and bi aspies, drawe thou hym awey fro myn auter, that he die.
Men om någon begår det dådet att han dräper sin nästa med list, så skall du gripa honom, vore han ock invid mitt altare, och han måste dö.
15 He that smytith his fadir, ether modir, die by deeth.
Den som slår sin fader eller sin moder, han skall straffas med döden.
16 He that cursith his fadir, ether modir, die bi deeth.
Den som stjäl en människa, vare sig han sedan säljer den stulne, eller denne finnes kvar hos honom, han skall straffas med döden.
17 He that stelith a man, and sillith hym, if he is conuyt of the gilt, die bi deeth.
Den som uttalar förbannelser över sin fader eller sin moder, han skall straffas med döden.
18 If men chiden, and the tother smyte his neiybore with a stoon, ether with the fist, and he is not deed, but liggith in the bed,
Om män tvista med varandra, och den ene slår den andre med en sten eller med knuten hand, så att denne väl icke dör, men bliver sängliggande,
19 if he risith, and goith forth on his staf, he that smoot schal be innocent; so netheles that he restore hise trauelis, and costis in lechis.
dock att han sedan kommer sig och kan gå ute, stödd vid sin stav, så skall den som slog honom vara fri ifrån straff; allenast ersätte han honom för den tid han har förlorat och besörje sjukvård åt honom.
20 He that smytith his seruaunt, ether handmayde, with a yerde, and thei ben deed in hise hondis, schal be gilti of cryme.
Om någon slår sin träl eller sin trälinna med en käpp, så att den slagne dör under hans hand, så skall han straffas därför.
21 Sotheli if the seruaunt ouerlyueth o dai, ether tweyne, he schal not be suget to peyne, `that is of deeth, for the seruaunt is his catel.
Men om den slagne lever en eller två dagar, skall han icke straffas, ty det var hans egna penningar.
22 If men chiden, and a man smytith a womman with childe, and sotheli makith the child deed borun, but the womman ouerlyueth, he schal be suget to the harm, as myche as the `hosebonde of the womman axith, and the iugis demen.
Om män träta med varandra, och någon av dem stöter till en havande kvinna, så att hon föder fram sitt foster, men eljest ingen olycka sker, så böte han vad kvinnans man ålägger honom och betale efter skiljedomares prövning.
23 But if the deeth of hir sueth,
Men om olycka sker, skall liv givas för liv,
24 he schal yelde lijf for lijf, iye for iye, tooth for tooth, hond for hond, foot for foot,
öga för öga, tand för tand, hand för hand, fot för fot,
25 brennyng for brennyng, wounde `with schedyng of blood for wounde `with schedyng of blood, `a wan wounde for a wan wounde.
brännskada för brännskada, sår för sår, blånad för blånad.
26 If a man smytith the iye of his seruaunt, ethir of handmaide, and makith hem oon iyed, he schal delyuere hem fre for `the iye which he puttide out.
Om någon slår sin träl eller sin trälinna i ögat och fördärvar det, så släppe han den skadade fri, till ersättning för ögat.
27 Also if he smytith out a tooth fro his seruaunt, ethir handmaide, in lijk maner he schal delyuere hem fre.
Sammalunda, om någon slår ut en tand på sin träl eller sin trälinna, så släppe han den skadade fri, till ersättning för tanden.
28 If an oxe smytith with horn a man, ether a womman, and thei ben deed, the oxe schal be oppressid with stoonus, and hise fleischis schulen not be etun, and the lord of the oxe schal be innocent.
Om en oxe stångar någon till döds, man eller kvinna, så skall oxen stenas, och köttet må icke ätas; men oxens ägare vara fri ifrån straff.
29 That if the oxe was `a pultere with horn fro yisterdai and the thridde dai ago, and men warneden `the lord of hym, nether the lord closide hym, and he sleeth a man, ethir womman, bothe the oxe schal be oppressid with stoonus, and thei schulen sle `the lord of hym;
Men om oxen förut har haft vanan att stångas, och hans ägare har blivit varnad, men denne ändå icke tager vara på honom, och oxen så dödar någon, man eller kvinna, då skall oxen stenas, och hans ägare skall ock dödas.
30 that if prijs is put to the lord, he schal yyue for his lijf what euer he is axide.
Men skulle lösepenning bliva denne ålagd, så give han till lösen för sitt liv så mycket som ålägges honom.
31 And if he smytith with horn a son, and a douytir, he schal be suget to lijk sentence.
Är det en gosse eller en flicka som har blivit stångad av oxen, så skall med denne förfaras efter samma lag.
32 If the oxe asailith a seruaunt, and handmaide, the lord of the oxe schal yyue thretti siclis of siluer to `his lord; forsothe the oxe schal be oppressid with stoonus.
Men om oxen stångar en träl eller en trälinna, så skall ägaren giva åt den stångades herre trettio siklar silver, och oxen skall stenas.
33 If ony man openeth a cisterne, and diggith, and hilith it not, and an oxe ether asse fallith in to it,
Om någon öppnar en brunn, eller om någon gräver en ny brunn och icke täcker över den, och sedan en oxe eller en åsna faller däri,
34 the lord of the cisterne schal yelde the prijs of the werk beestis; forsothe that that is deed schal be his.
så skall brunnens ägare giva ersättning i penningar åt djurets ägare, men den döda kroppen skall vara hans.
35 If another mannus oxe woundith the oxe of another man, and he is deed, thei schulen sille the quyke oxe, and thei schulen departe the prijs; forsothe thei schulen departe bitwixe hem the karkeis of the deed oxe.
Om någons oxe stångar en annans oxe, så att denne dör, så skola de sälja den levande oxen och dela betalningen för honom och därjämte dela den döda kroppen.
36 Forsothe if his lord wiste, that the oxe was a puttere fro yistirdai and the thridde dai ago, and kepte not him, he schal yelde oxe for oxe, and he schal take the hool carkeys.
Var det däremot känt att oxen förut hade vanan att stångas, men tog hans ägare ändå icke vara på honom, så skall han ersätta oxe med oxe, men den döda kroppen skall vara hans.
