Exodus 19
1 In the thridde monethe of the goyng `of Israel out of the lond of Egipt, in this dai thei camen in to the wildirnesse of Synai;
Im dritten Monat nach dem Auszug der Israeliten aus Ägypten, an diesem Tage kamen sie in die Wüste Sinai.
2 for thei yeden forth fro Rafidym, and camen til in to deseert of Synai, and settiden tentis in the same place; and there Israel settide tentis, euen ayens the hil.
Sie waren nämlich von Rephidim aufgebrochen und in die Wüste Sinai gelangt und lagerten sich dort in der Wüste, und zwar dem Berg gegenüber.
3 Forsothe Moises stiede in to the hil to God; and the Lord clepide hym fro the mount, and seide, Thou schalt seie these thingis to the hows of Jacob, and thou schalt telle to the sones of Israel,
Als Mose dann zu Gott hinaufstieg, rief der HERR ihm vom Berge herab die Worte zu: »So sollst du zum Hause Jakobs sprechen und den Kindern Israels verkündigen:
4 Ye silf han seyn what thingis Y haue do to Egipcians, how Y bar you on the wengis of eglis, and took to me.
›Ihr habt selbst gesehen, was ich an den Ägyptern getan und wie ich euch auf Adlersflügeln getragen und euch hierher zu mir gebracht habe.
5 Therfor if ye schulen here my vois, and schulen kepe my couenaunt, ye schulen be to me in to a specialte of alle puplis; for al the lond is myn;
Und nun, wenn ihr meinen Weisungen willig gehorcht und meinen Bund haltet, so sollt ihr aus allen Völkern mein besonderes Eigentum sein; denn mir gehört die ganze Erde;
6 and ye schulen be to me in to a rewme of preesthod, and `ye schulen be an hooli folk; these ben the wordis whiche thou schalt speke to the sones of Israel.
ihr aber sollt mir ein Königreich von Priestern und ein heiliges Volk sein.‹ Das sind die Worte, die du den Israeliten verkünden sollst.«
7 Moyses cam, and whanne the gretter men in birthe of the puple weren clepid to gidere, he expownede alle the wordis whiche the Lord comaundide.
Da ging Mose hin, berief die Ältesten des Volkes und teilte ihnen alle diese Worte mit, die der HERR ihm aufgetragen hatte.
8 And alle the puple answeride to gidere, We schulen do alle thingis whiche the Lord spak. And whanne Moises hadde teld the wordis of the puple to the Lord,
Das ganze Volk aber antwortete einmütig: »Alles, was der HERR geboten hat, wollen wir tun!« Als hierauf Mose dem HERRN die Antwort des Volkes überbracht hatte,
9 the Lord seide to hym, Riyt now Y schal come to thee in a derknesse of a cloude, that the puple here me spekynge to thee, and bileue to thee withouten ende. Therfor Moises telde the wordis of the puple to the Lord,
sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Ich werde diesmal in dichtem Gewölk zu dir kommen, damit das Volk es hört, wenn ich mit dir rede, und dir für immer Glauben schenkt.« [Mose aber berichtete dem HERRN die Antwort des Volkes.]
10 which seide to Moises, Go thou to the puple, and make hem holi to dai and to morewe, and waische thei her clothis,
Dann sagte der HERR weiter zu Mose: »Gehe zum Volk und laß sie sich heute und morgen heiligen und ihre Kleider waschen,
11 and be thei redi in to the thridde dai; for in the thridde dai the Lord schal come doun bifore al the puple on the hil of Synai.
damit sie übermorgen bereit sind! Denn übermorgen wird der HERR vor den Augen des ganzen Volkes auf den Berg Sinai herabfahren.
12 And thou schalt sette termes to the puple, bi cumpas; and thou schalt seie to hem, Be ye war, that ye `stie not in to the hil, nether touche ye the endis therof; ech man that schal touche the hil, schal die bi deeth.
Bestimme daher dem Volk ringsum eine Grenze und sage ihnen: ›Hütet euch wohl, an dem Berge emporzusteigen oder auch nur seinen Fuß zu berühren! Wer den Berg berührt, der ist des Todes!
13 Hondis schulen not touche hym, but he schal be oppressid with stoonus, ethir he shall be persid with dartis; whether it schal be a beest, ethir a man, it schal not lyue; whanne a clarioun schal bigynne to sowne, thanne `stie thei in to the hil.
Niemandes Hand darf ihn berühren, sondern ein solcher soll gesteinigt oder erschossen werden: weder ein Tier noch ein Mensch darf am Leben bleiben! Erst wenn das Widderhorn geblasen wird, dürfen sie am Berge emporsteigen.‹«
14 And Moises cam doun fro the hil to the puple, and halewide it; and whanne thei hadden waischun her clothis,
Darauf stieg Mose vom Berge zum Volk hinab und ließ das Volk sich heiligen, und sie wuschen ihre Kleider;
15 he seide to hem, Be ye redi in to the thridde dai, neiye ye not to youre wyues.
auch gebot er dem Volke: »Haltet euch für übermorgen bereit: keiner nahe sich bis dahin einem Weibe!«
16 And now the thridde day was comun, and the morewetid was cleer; and, lo! thundris bigunnen to be herd, and leitis to schyne, and a moost thicke cloude to hile the mounteyn; and `the sownyng of a clarioun made noise ful greetli, and the puple dredde, that was in the castels.
Am dritten Tage aber, als es Morgen wurde, entstand ein Donnern und Blitzen; schweres Gewölk lag auf dem Berge, und gewaltiger Posaunenschall ertönte, so daß das ganze Volk, das sich im Lager befand, zitterte.
17 And whanne Moises hadde led hem out in to the comyng of God, fro the place of castels, thei stoden at the rootis of the hil.
Da führte Mose das Volk aus dem Lager hinaus, Gott entgegen, und sie stellten sich am Fuß des Berges auf.
18 Forsothe al the hil of Synai smokide, for the Lord hadde come doun theronne in fier; and smoke stiede therof as of a furneis, and al the hil was ferdful;
Der Berg Sinai aber war ganz in Rauch gehüllt, weil der HERR im Feuer auf ihn herabgefahren war; Rauch stieg von ihm auf wie der Rauch von einem Schmelzofen, und der ganze Berg erbebte stark.
19 and the `sown of a clarioun encreesside litil and litil, and was holdun forth lengere. Moises spak, and the Lord answeride to hym,
Und der Posaunenschall wurde immer stärker: Mose redete, und Gott antwortete ihm mit lauter Stimme.
20 and the Lord cam doun on the hil of Synay, in thilke cop of the hil, and clepide Moises to the cop therof. And whanne he hadde stied thidur,
Als nun der HERR auf den Berg Sinai, auf den Gipfel des Berges, hinabgefahren war, berief er Mose auf den Gipfel des Berges, und Mose stieg hinauf.
21 the Lord seide to hym, Go thou doun, and witnesse thou to the puple, lest perauenture it wole passe the termes to se the Lord, and ful greet multitude therof perische;
Da befahl der HERR dem Mose: »Steige hinab, warne das Volk, daß sie ja nicht zum HERRN durchbrechen, um ihn zu schauen, sonst würde eine große Zahl von ihnen ums Leben kommen!
22 also preestis, that neiyen to the Lord, be halewid, lest Y smyte hem.
Auch die Priester, die sonst dem HERRN nahen dürfen, müssen die Heiligung an sich vollziehen, damit der HERR nicht gegen sie losfährt.«
23 And Moises seide to the Lord, The comyn puple may not stie in to the hil of Synai; for thou hast witnessid, and hast comaundid, seiyinge, Sette thou termes aboute the hil, and halewe it.
Da erwiderte Mose dem HERRN: »Das Volk kann ja nicht auf den Berg Sinai hinaufsteigen; denn du selbst hast uns gewarnt und mir geboten, eine Grenze um den Berg festzusetzen und ihn für unnahbar zu erklären.«
24 To whom the Lord seide, Go thou doun, and thou schalt stie, and Aaron with thee; forsothe the preestis and the puple passe not the termes, nethir stie thei to the Lord, lest perauenture he sle hem.
Doch der HERR antwortete ihm: »Steige hinab und komm dann mit Aaron wieder herauf! Die Priester aber und das Volk dürfen die festgesetzte Grenze nicht überschreiten, um zum HERRN hinaufzusteigen, damit er nicht gegen sie losfährt.«
25 Moises yede doun to the puple, and telde alle thingis to hem.
Da stieg Mose zum Volk hinab und kündigte es ihnen an.
