Exodus 19
1 In the thridde monethe of the goyng `of Israel out of the lond of Egipt, in this dai thei camen in to the wildirnesse of Synai;
Le troisième jour du troisième mois après la sortie d'Égypte, les fils d'Israël arrivèrent dans le désert de Sin.
2 for thei yeden forth fro Rafidym, and camen til in to deseert of Synai, and settiden tentis in the same place; and there Israel settide tentis, euen ayens the hil.
Étant partis de Rhaphidin, ils arrivèrent dans le désert de Sin, et Israël y dressa ses tentes en face de la montagne.
3 Forsothe Moises stiede in to the hil to God; and the Lord clepide hym fro the mount, and seide, Thou schalt seie these thingis to the hows of Jacob, and thou schalt telle to the sones of Israel,
Et Moïse monta sur la montagne de Dieu, du haut de laquelle Dieu l'appela, et lui dit: Voici ce que tu diras à la maison de Jacob, ce que tu déclareras aux fils d'Israël:
4 Ye silf han seyn what thingis Y haue do to Egipcians, how Y bar you on the wengis of eglis, and took to me.
Vous avez vu vous-mêmes ce que j'ai fait aux Égyptiens; je vous ai enlevés comme sur des ailes d'aigle, et je vous ai amenés près de moi.
5 Therfor if ye schulen here my vois, and schulen kepe my couenaunt, ye schulen be to me in to a specialte of alle puplis; for al the lond is myn;
Si maintenant vous écoutez ma parole, si vous gardez mon alliance, vous serez mon peuple à part, parmi toutes les nations, car la terre entière est à moi.
6 and ye schulen be to me in to a rewme of preesthod, and `ye schulen be an hooli folk; these ben the wordis whiche thou schalt speke to the sones of Israel.
Vous serez pour moi un sacerdoce royal, une nation sainte; répète ces paroles aux fils d'Israël.
7 Moyses cam, and whanne the gretter men in birthe of the puple weren clepid to gidere, he expownede alle the wordis whiche the Lord comaundide.
Après cela, Moïse descendit, convoqua les anciens du peuple, et leur transmit toutes ces paroles que Dieu leur adressait.
8 And alle the puple answeride to gidere, We schulen do alle thingis whiche the Lord spak. And whanne Moises hadde teld the wordis of the puple to the Lord,
Et tout le peuple répondit d'un même cœur, et s'écria: Tout ce que Dieu a dit nous le ferons, nous lui obéirons. Et Moïse rapporta ces paroles à Dieu.
9 the Lord seide to hym, Riyt now Y schal come to thee in a derknesse of a cloude, that the puple here me spekynge to thee, and bileue to thee withouten ende. Therfor Moises telde the wordis of the puple to the Lord,
Le Seigneur dit alors à Moïse: Voilà que je viens à toi en une colonne de nuée, afin que le peuple m'entende te parler, et qu'ils te croient à jamais. Moïse ensuite répéta au Seigneur les paroles du peuple.
10 which seide to Moises, Go thou to the puple, and make hem holi to dai and to morewe, and waische thei her clothis,
Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Descends, porte témoignage au peuple; purifie-le aujourd'hui et demain; qu'ils lavent leurs vêtements.
11 and be thei redi in to the thridde dai; for in the thridde dai the Lord schal come doun bifore al the puple on the hil of Synai.
Qu'ils se tiennent prêts pour le troisième jour; car, en ce troisième jour, le Seigneur descendra sur la montagne de Sina devant tout le peuple.
12 And thou schalt sette termes to the puple, bi cumpas; and thou schalt seie to hem, Be ye war, that ye `stie not in to the hil, nether touche ye the endis therof; ech man that schal touche the hil, schal die bi deeth.
Et tu sépareras le peuple, disant: Gardez-vous de gravir la montagne, ou d'y poser le pied; quiconque aura touché la montagne mourra de mort.
13 Hondis schulen not touche hym, but he schal be oppressid with stoonus, ethir he shall be persid with dartis; whether it schal be a beest, ethir a man, it schal not lyue; whanne a clarioun schal bigynne to sowne, thanne `stie thei in to the hil.
Qu'aucune main ne la touche; celui qui la touchera, homme ou bête, sera lapidé ou percé de flèches, il ne vivra pas; lorsque le tonnerre, les trompettes et la nuée se seront éloignés de la montagne, quelques-uns pourront y monter.
14 And Moises cam doun fro the hil to the puple, and halewide it; and whanne thei hadden waischun her clothis,
Moïse descendit donc de la montagne vers le peuple; il les purifia, et ils lavèrent leurs vêtements.
15 he seide to hem, Be ye redi in to the thridde dai, neiye ye not to youre wyues.
Puis, il dit au peuple: Tenez-vous prêts; pendant trois jours ne vous approchez point de vos femmes.
16 And now the thridde day was comun, and the morewetid was cleer; and, lo! thundris bigunnen to be herd, and leitis to schyne, and a moost thicke cloude to hile the mounteyn; and `the sownyng of a clarioun made noise ful greetli, and the puple dredde, that was in the castels.
Or, le troisième jour vint, et, vers l'aurore, il y eut sur le mont Sina des éclairs et une sombre nuée; le son de la trompette retentit avec éclat, et tout le peuple en son camp trembla.
17 And whanne Moises hadde led hem out in to the comyng of God, fro the place of castels, thei stoden at the rootis of the hil.
Et Moïse mena le peuple hors du camp, au-devant de Dieu, et ils se tinrent au pied de la montagne.
18 Forsothe al the hil of Synai smokide, for the Lord hadde come doun theronne in fier; and smoke stiede therof as of a furneis, and al the hil was ferdful;
Tout le mont Sina lançait de la fumée, parce que Dieu, enveloppé de feu, y était descendu. Et la fumée s'élevait comme celle d'une fournaise; et le peuple était en une grande stupeur.
19 and the `sown of a clarioun encreesside litil and litil, and was holdun forth lengere. Moises spak, and the Lord answeride to hym,
Le son de la trompette redoublait d'éclat; et Moïse parla, et Dieu de sa bouche, répondit.
20 and the Lord cam doun on the hil of Synay, in thilke cop of the hil, and clepide Moises to the cop therof. And whanne he hadde stied thidur,
Et le Seigneur descendit sur le mont Sina, sur la cime de la montagne, et le Seigneur appela Moïse sur la cime, et Moïse y monta.
21 the Lord seide to hym, Go thou doun, and witnesse thou to the puple, lest perauenture it wole passe the termes to se the Lord, and ful greet multitude therof perische;
Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, et il lui dit: Descends, porte témoignage au peuple; prends garde qu'ils ne s'approchent pour voir Dieu, et que parmi eux une multitude ne périsse.
22 also preestis, that neiyen to the Lord, be halewid, lest Y smyte hem.
Que les prêtres, qui, approchent Dieu, se purifient, de peur que Dieu n'en fasse mourir plusieurs.
23 And Moises seide to the Lord, The comyn puple may not stie in to the hil of Synai; for thou hast witnessid, and hast comaundid, seiyinge, Sette thou termes aboute the hil, and halewe it.
Et Moïse dit à Dieu: Le peuple ne pourra s'avancer sur la montagne de Sina; car vous nous avez vous-même porté témoignage, quand vous avez dit: Sépare la montagne et sanctifie-la.
24 To whom the Lord seide, Go thou doun, and thou schalt stie, and Aaron with thee; forsothe the preestis and the puple passe not the termes, nethir stie thei to the Lord, lest perauenture he sle hem.
Et le Seigneur lui dit: Va, descends et remonte avec Aaron; que ni les prêtres ni le peuple ne fassent d'efforts pour monter vers le Seigneur, de peur que Dieu n'en détruise plusieurs.
25 Moises yede doun to the puple, and telde alle thingis to hem.
Moise descendit donc vers le peuple, et il lui parla.
