Deuteronomy 6
1 These ben the comaundementis, and cerymonyes, and domes, whiche youre Lord God comaundide that Y schulde teche you, and that ye do tho in the lond to which ye passen ouer to welde;
"Or, voici la loi, les statuts et les règles que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, m’a ordonné de vous enseigner, et que vous avez à suivre dans le pays dont vous allez prendre possession;
2 that thou drede thi Lord God, and kepe alle hise comaundementis, and heestis, whiche Y comaunde to thee, and to thi sones, and sones of sones, in alle the daies of thi lijf, that thi daies be lengthid.
afin que tu révères l’Éternel, ton Dieu, en observant tous ses statuts et ses préceptes que je te transmets, toi, et ton fils et ton petit-fils, tout le temps de votre vie, et afin que vos jours se prolongent.
3 Thou Israel, here, and kepe, that thou do tho thingis whiche the Lord comaundide to thee, and that it be wel to thee, and thou be multiplied more, as the Lord God of thi fadris bihiyte, to yyue to thee a lond flowynge with mylk and hony.
Tu écouteras donc, Israël, et tu observeras avec soin, afin de prospérer et de multiplier sans mesure, ainsi que l’Éternel, Dieu de tes pères, te l’a promis, dans ce pays ruisselant de lait et de miel.
4 Thou Israel, here, thi Lord God is o God.
Ecoute, Israël: l’Éternel est notre Dieu, l’Éternel est un!
5 Thou schalt loue thi Lord God of al thin herte, and of al thi soule, and of al thi strengthe.
Tu aimeras l’Éternel, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de tout ton pouvoir.
6 And these wordis whiche Y comaunde to thee to dai, schulen be in thin herte;
Ces devoirs que je t’impose aujourd’hui seront gravés dans ton cœur.
7 and thou schalt telle tho to thi sones, and thou schalt thenke on tho, sittynge in thin hows, and goynge in the weie, slepynge, and rysinge.
Tu les inculqueras à tes enfants et tu t’en entretiendras, soit dans ta maison, soit en voyage, en te couchant et en te levant.
8 And thou schalt bynde tho as a signe in thin hond; and tho schulen be, and schulen be moued bifor thin iyen; and thou schalt write tho in the lyntel,
Tu les attacheras, comme symbole, sur ton bras, et les porteras en fronteau entre tes yeux.
9 and in the doris of thin hows.
Tu les inscriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes.
10 And whanne thi Lord God hath brouyt thee in to the lond, for which he swoor to thi fadris, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and hath youe to thee grete citees, and beeste, whiche thou bildidist not,
Or, quand l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’aura installé dans le pays qu’il a juré à tes pères, Abraham, Isaac et Jacob, de te donner, pays aux villes grandes et belles, que tu n’as point bâties;
11 housis fulle of alle richessis, whiche thou madist not, and cisternes, which thou diggedist not, `places of vynes, and `places of olyues, whiche thou plauntidist not,
avec des maisons abondantes en biens, que tu n’y as pas répandus, des citernes toutes faites, que tu n’as pas creusées, des vignes et des oliviers, que tu n’as point plantés; quand tu jouiras de ces biens et t’en rassasieras,
12 and thou hast ete, and art fillid,
garde-toi d’oublier l’Éternel, qui t’a tiré du pays d’Egypte, d’une maison de servitude!
13 be war diligentli, lest thou foryete the Lord, that ladde thee out of the lond of Egipt, fro the hows of seruage. Thou schalt drede thi Lord God, and thou schalt serue hym aloone, `bi seruyce due to God onely, and thou schalt swere bi his name.
C’Est l’Éternel, ton Dieu, que tu dois adorer, c’est lui que tu dois servir, c’est par son nom que tu dois jurer.
14 Ye schulen not go aftir alien goddis, of alle hethen men that ben `in youre cumpas;
Ne suivez point des divinités étrangères, aucun des dieux de ces peuples qui vous entourent.
15 for God is a feruent louyere, thi Lord God is in the myddis of thee, lest ony tyme the `strong veniaunce of thi Lord God be wrooth ayens thee, and do awei thee fro `the face of the erthe.
Car une divinité jalouse, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, est au milieu de toi: crains que son courroux ne s’allume contre toi et qu’il ne t’anéantisse de dessus la face de la terre.
16 Thou schalt not tempte thi Lord God, as thou temptidist in the place of temptyng.
Ne tentez point l’Éternel, votre Dieu, comme vous l’avez tenté à Massa.
17 Kepe thou the comaundementis of thi Lord God, and the witnessyngis, and cerymonyes, whiche he comaundide to thee;
Gardez, au contraire, les commandements de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, les statuts et les lois qu’il vous a imposés.
18 and do thou that that is plesaunt and good in the siyt of the Lord, that it be wel to thee, and that thou entre, and welde the beste lond, of which the Lord swoor to thi fadris,
Fais ce qui est juste et agréable aux yeux du Seigneur, afin d’être heureux et d’arriver à posséder ce bon pays que le Seigneur a promis par serment à tes pères,
19 that he schulde do awey alle thin enemyes bifor thee, as he spak.
lorsqu’il repoussera tous tes ennemis de devant toi, comme l’a déclaré le Seigneur.
20 And whanne thi sone schal axe thee to morewe, that is, in tyme comyng, and schal seie, What wolen these witnessyngis, and cerymonyes, and domes to hem silf, whiche oure Lord God comaundide to vs?
Quand ton fils t’interrogera un jour, disant: "Qu’est-ce que ces statuts, ces lois, ces règlements, que l’Éternel, notre Dieu, vous a imposés?"
21 thou schalt seie to hym, We weren `seruauntis of Farao in Egipt, and the Lord ledde vs out of Egipt, in strong hond;
Tu répondras à ton fils: "Nous étions asservis à Pharaon, en Egypte, et l’Éternel nous en fit sortir d’une main puissante.
22 and he dide myraclis, and grete wondris, and werste, `that is, moost peyneful veniaunces, in Egipt, ayens Farao and al his hows, in oure siyt.
Il opéra des signes et des prodiges, grands et terribles, sur l’Egypte, sur Pharaon et toute sa maison, sous nos yeux.
23 And he ledde vs out therof, that he schulde yyue to vs led yn, the lond of which he swoor to oure fadris.
Et nous, il nous fit sortir de là pour nous amener ici, pour nous gratifier du pays qu’il avait promis à nos pères;
24 And the Lord comaundide to vs, that we do alle these lawful thingis, and drede oure Lord God, that it be wel to vs in alle the daies of oure lijf, as it is to dai.
et il nous prescrivit d’exécuter toutes ces lois, de révérer l’Éternel, notre Dieu, pour que nous fussions heureux à jamais, pour qu’il conservât nos jours comme il l’a fait jusqu’ici.
25 And he schal be merciful to vs, if we schulen do and kepe alle hise heestis, bifor oure Lord God, as he comaundide to vs.
Et ce sera œuvre méritoire pour nous de pratiquer soigneusement toute cette loi devant le Seigneur, notre Dieu, telle qu’il nous l’a prescrite."
