Acts 13
1 And profetis and doctouris weren in the chirche that was at Antioche, in which Barnabas, and Symount, that was clepid Blac, and Lucius Cironense, and Manaen, that was the soukynge fere of Eroude tetrarke, and Saul weren.
Il y avait alors à Antioche, dans l'église de cette ville, comme prophètes et docteurs, Barnabas, Syméon dit Niger, Lucius de Cyrène, Menahem, frère de lait du tétrarque Hérode, et Saul.
2 And whanne thei mynystriden to the Lord, and fastiden, the Hooli Goost seide to hem, Departe ye to me Saul and Barnabas, in to the werk to which Y haue takun hem.
Un jour qu'ils célébraient le culte du Seigneur et qu'ils jeûnaient l'Esprit saint leur dit: «Mettez-moi à part Barnabas et Saul pour l'oeuvre à laquelle je les ai appelés.»
3 Thanne thei fastiden, and preieden, and leiden hondis on hem, and leten hem go.
Alors, après avoir jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains et les laissèrent partir.
4 But thei weren sent of the Hooli Goost, and wenten forth to Seleucia, and fro thennus thei wenten bi boot to Cipre.
Paul et Barnabas, ainsi envoyés par le saint Esprit, descendirent à Séleucie, où ils s'embarquèrent pour l'île de Chypre.
5 And whanne thei camen to Salamyne, thei prechiden the word of God in the synagogis of Jewis; and thei hadden also Joon in mynystrie.
Arrivés à Salamis, ils annoncèrent la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs. Ils avaient Jean pour les aider.
6 And whanne thei hadden walkid bi al the ile to Pafum, thei founden a man, a witche, a false profete, a Jewe, to whom the name was Bariesu,
Ayant traversé toute l’île jusqu'à Paphos, ils rencontrèrent un certain personnage, un Juif, magicien et faux prophète dont le nom était Bar-Jésus.
7 that was with the proconsul Sergius Paule, a prudent man. This clepide Barnabas and Poul, and desiride to here the word of God.
Il était auprès du proconsul Sergius Paulus qui, lui, était un homme sensé. Celui-ci fit appeler Barnabas et Saul et demanda à entendre la parole de Dieu.
8 But Elymas witche withstoode hem; for his name is expowned so; and he souyte to turne awei the proconsul fro bileue.
Mais le magicien Elymas (c'est ainsi que se traduit son nom), leur fit opposition et chercha à détourner le proconsul de la foi.
9 But Saul, which is seid also Paul, was fillid with the Hooli Goost, and bihelde in to hym, and seide, A!
Alors Saul, nommé aussi Paul, plein d'Esprit saint, le regarda en face et lui dit:
10 thou ful of al gile, and al falsnesse, thou sone of the deuel, thou enemye of al riytwisnesse, thou leeuest not to turne vpsodoun the riytful weies of the Lord.
«Être tout rempli d'astuce et de fraude, fils du diable, ennemi de toute justice, ne cesseras-tu pas de pervertir les droites voies du Seigneur?
11 And now lo! the hoond of the Lord is on thee, and thou schalt be blynde, and not seynge the sunne in to a tyme. And anoon myste and derknesse felden doun on hym; and he yede aboute, and souyte hym that schulde yyue hoond to hym.
La main du Seigneur va maintenant te frapper; tu seras aveugle; pendant quelque temps tu ne verras pas le soleil.» Immédiatement il se trouva enveloppé d'épaisses ténèbres et, marchant çà et là, il cherchait quelqu'un pour le conduire.
12 Thanne the proconsul, whanne he hadde seyn the dede, bileuede, wondringe on the techyng of the Lord.
Alors le proconsul, voyant ce qui était arrivé, devint croyant; il était très frappé de la doctrine du Seigneur.
13 And whanne fro Pafum Poul hadde go bi a boot, and thei that weren with hym, thei camen to Pergen of Pamfilie; but Joon departide fro hem, and turnede ayen to Jerusalem.
Embarqués à Paphos, Paul et ses compagnons arrivèrent à Perge en Pamphylie;
14 And thei yeden to Pergen, and camen to Antioche of Persidie; and thei entriden in to the synagoge in the dai of sabatis, and saten.
là, Jean se sépara d'eux et revint à Jérusalem. Mais eux traversèrent le pays depuis Perge et arrivèrent à Antioche de Pisidie. Ils se rendirent à la synagogue le jour du sabbat et y prirent place.
15 And after the redyng of the lawe and of the prophetis, the princis of the synagoge senten to hem, and seiden, Britheren, if ony word of exortacioun to the puple is in you, seie ye.
Après la lecture de «la Loi» et des «Prophètes», les présidents envoyèrent leur dire: «Frères, si vous avez quelques paroles d'exhortation à adresser au peuple, parlez!»
16 And Poul roos, and with hoond baad silence, and seide, Men of Israel, and ye that dreden God, here ye.
Alors Paul se leva, fit un signe de la main et dit: «Hommes d'Israël, et vous qui craignez Dieu! Écoutez:
17 God of the puple of Israel chees oure fadris, and enhaunside the puple, whanne thei weren comelingis in the loond of Egipt, and in an hiy arme he ledde hem out of it;
«Le Dieu de notre nation a élu nos pères, il a relevé le peuple pendant son séjour à l'étranger en Égypte; il l'en a fait sortir à bras levé;
18 and bi the tyme of fourti yeeris he suffride her maneres in desert.
pendant environ quarante ans, il s'est accommodé à eux dans le désert,
19 And he destriede seuene folkis in the loond of Canaan, and bi sort departide to hem her lond,
il a anéanti sept peuples dans le pays de Chanaan, et a mis leur territoire en sa possession.»
20 as aftir foure hundrid and fifti yeeris. And aftir these thingis he yaf domesmen, to Samuel, the profete.
«Ensuite, pendant quatre cent cinquante ans environ, il leur a donné des Juges jusqu'au prophète Samuel.»
21 And fro that tyme thei axiden a kyng, and God yaf to hem Saul, the sone of Cis, a man of the lynage of Beniamyn, bi fourti yeeris.
«C'est alors qu'ils ont demandé un roi et Dieu leur a donné pour quarante ans Saül, fils de Kis, de la tribu de Benjamin.
22 And whanne he was don awei, he reiside to hem Dauid king, to whom he bar witnessing, and seide, Y haue foundun Dauid, the sone of Jesse, a man aftir myn herte, which schal do alle my willis.
L'ayant détrôné, il a élevé à la royauté David, dont il a fait l'éloge en disant: «J'ai trouvé David, fils de Jessé, il est selon mon coeur, et il fera toutes mes volontés.»
23 Of whos seed bi the biheest God hath led out to Israel a sauyoure Jhesu,
«C'est de sa famille que Dieu, comme il l'avait promis, a fait sortir Jésus, un Sauveur pour Israël.
24 whanne Joon prechide bifor the face of his comyng the baptym of penaunce to al the puple of Israel.
Jean avait prêché d'avance, avant sa venue, un baptême de repentance à tout le peuple d'Israël.
25 But whanne Joon fillide his cours, he seide, Y am not he, whom ye demen me to be; but lo! he cometh aftir me, and Y am not worthi to doon of the schoon of hise feet.
Jean disait pendant qu'il remplissait sa carrière: «Je ne suis pas, moi, celui pour lequel vous me prenez. Mais, voici, il vient après moi celui dont je ne suis pas digne de détacher les sandales.»
26 Britheren, and sones of the kynde of Abraham, and whiche that in you dreden God, to you the word of helthe is sent.
«Mes frères, vous qui descendez de la famille d'Abraham, et vous qui êtes ici et qui craignez Dieu, c'est à nous qu'un message de salut a été adressé.
27 For thei that dwelliden at Jerusalem, and princis of it, that knewen not this Jhesu, and the voicis of prophetis, that by euery sabat ben red, demyden, and filliden;
Car les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs magistrats, ayant méconnu ce Jésus, ont accompli par là même, en le jugeant, les paroles des prophètes lues chaque sabbat;
28 and thei founden in hym no cause of deth, and axiden of Pilat, that thei schulden sle hym.
ils ne trouvaient aucun motif de le faire mourir, et ils ont demandé à Pilate de le mettre à mort.
29 And whanne thei hadden endid alle thingis that weren writun of hym, thei token hym doun of the tre, and leiden hym in a graue.
Quand ils eurent accompli tout ce qui avait été écrit sur lui, ils le descendirent de la croix et le mirent dans un tombeau.»
30 And God reiside hym fro deth in the thridde dai; which was seyn bi mony daies to
«Mais Dieu l'a ressuscité d'entre les morts.
31 hem that wenten vp togidere with hym fro Galilee in to Jerusalem, which ben til now his witnessis to the puple.
Il est apparu pendant plusieurs jours à ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de la Galilée à Jérusalem et qui sont maintenant ses témoins auprès du peuple.
32 And we schewen to you the biheest that was maad to oure fadris;
Voici donc la Bonne Nouvelle que nous vous annonçons: La promesse faite à nos pères,
33 for God hath fulfillid this to her sones, and ayenreisid Jhesu; as in the secounde salm it is writun, Thou art my sone, to dai Y bigat thee.
Dieu l'a tenue pour nous, leurs enfants, en ressuscitant Jésus. Voilà pourquoi il est écrit dans le Psaume second: «Tu es mon fils Et moi, je t'ai engendré aujourd'hui.»
34 And he ayenreiside hym fro deth, that he schulde not turne ayen in to corrupcioun, seide thus, For Y schal yyue to you the hooli trewe thingis of Dauid.
«Et sur sa résurrection d'entre les morts, sur ce fait qu'il ne tombera pas en corruption, voici ce qui est dit: «Je vous donnerai les grâces saintes et certaines promises à David.»
35 And therfor and on an othere stide he seith, Thou schalt not yyue thin hooli to se corrupcioun.
Voilà encore pourquoi il est dit ailleurs: «Tu ne permettras point que ton Saint voie la corruption.»
36 But Dauid in his generacioun, whanne he hadde mynstrid to the wille of God, diede, and was leid with hise fadris, and say corrupcioun;
«Eh bien, David, après avoir servi à son époque aux desseins de Dieu, est mort, a été réuni à ses pères et a vu la corruption.
37 but he whom God reiside fro deth, say not corrupcioun.
C'est celui que Dieu a ressuscité qui n'a pas vit la corruption.
38 Therfor, britheren, be it knowun to you, that bi hym remyssioun of synnes is teld to you, fro alle synnes, of whiche ye myyten not be iustified in the lawe of Moises.
Sachez donc, mes frères, que, par lui, la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée.
39 In this ech man that bileueth, is iustified.
Tout croyant trouve en lui la justification de tout ce dont la Loi de Moïse n'a pu vous justifier.
40 Therfor se ye, that it come not to you, that is biforeseid in the profetis,
Prenez donc garde qu'il ne vous arrive ce qui est dit dans les prophètes:
41 Ye dispiseris, se ye, and wondre ye, and be ye scaterid abrood; for Y worche a werk in youre daies, a werk that ye schulen not bileue, if ony man schal telle it to you.
«Regardez, contempteurs, soyez étonnés et disparaissez, Parce que je ferai une oeuvre, de vos jours, Une oeuvre que vous ne croiriez pas si on vous la racontait».
42 And whanne thei yeden out, thei preieden, that in the sabat suynge thei schulden speke to hem these wordis.
Lorsqu'ils sortirent, on les pria de recommencer leur prédication le sabbat suivant.
43 And whanne the synagoge was left, manye of Jewis and of comelingis worschypynge God supeden Poul and Barnabas; that spaken, and counseliden hem, that thei schulden dwelle in the grace of God.
A l'issue de la réunion, une grande foule de Juifs et de prosélytes pieux suivirent Paul et Barnabas qui s'entretinrent avec eux et les exhortèrent à rester attachés à la grâce de Dieu.
44 And in the sabat suynge almest al the citee cam togidir, to here the word of God.
Le sabbat suivant presque toute la ville se réunit pour entendre la parole du Seigneur.
45 And Jewis sien the puple, and weren fillid with enuye, and ayenseiden these thingis that weren seyd of Poul, and blasfemyden.
Mais les Juifs, voyant cette foule, furent pleins de jalousie; ils s'opposèrent à tout ce que disait Paul et se mirent à le contredire et à l'injurier.
46 Thanne Poul and Barnabas stidfastli seiden, To you it bihofte first to speke the word of God; but for ye putten it awei, and han demyd you vnworthi to euerlastinge lijf, lo! we turnen to hethen men. (aiōnios g166)
Paul et Barnabas leur dirent alors en toute franchise: «Nous devions commencer par vous prêcher la parole de Dieu, mais puisque vous la repoussez et que vous vous jugez vous-mêmes indignes de la vie éternelle, nous allons nous tourner vers les païens, (aiōnios g166)
47 For so the Lord comaundide vs, Y haue set thee in to liyt to hethen men, that thou be in to helthe to the vtmest of erthe.
car voici ce que le Seigneur nous a commandé: «Je t'ai établi pour être la lumière des païens, Pour répandre le salut jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.»
48 And hethen men herden, `and ioieden, and glorifieden the word of the Lord; and bileueden, as manye as weren bifore ordeyned to euerlastinge lijf. (aiōnios g166)
Les païens furent dans la joie de les entendre parler ainsi; ils glorifièrent la parole du Seigneur, et tous ceux qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle devinrent croyants. (aiōnios g166)
49 And the word of the Lord was sowun bi al the cuntre.
La parole du Seigneur se répandit dans tout le pays;
50 But the Jewis stiriden religiouse wymmen, and onest, and the worthiest men of the citee, and stireden persecucioun ayens Poul and Barnabas, and dryuen hem out of her cuntreis.
mais les Juifs excitèrent les dames les plus considérables de la ville rattachées au Judaïsme et les principaux habitants; ils provoquèrent une persécution contre Paul et Barnabas, et ils les bannirent de leur territoire.
51 And thei schoken awei in to hem the duste of her feet, and camen to Yconye.
Ceux-ci secouèrent sur eux la poussière de leurs pieds et se rendirent à Iconium;
52 And the disciplis weren fillid with ioye and the Hooli Goost.
quant aux disciples, ils étaient pleins de joie et d'Esprit saint.
