2 Samuel 2
1 Therfor aftir these thingis Dauid counseilide the Lord, and seide, Whether Y schal stie in to oon of the citees of Juda? And the Lord seide to hym, Stie thou. And Dauid seide to the Lord, Whidur schal Y stie? And the Lord answeride to hym, In to Ebron.
Hierauf fragte David beim HERRN an: »Soll ich in eine der Städte Judas hinaufziehen?« Der HERR antwortete ihm: »Ja, ziehe hinauf.« Als David weiter fragte: »Wohin soll ich ziehen?«, erhielt er die Antwort: »Nach Hebron.«
2 Therfor Dauid stiede, and hise twei wyues, Achynoem of Jezrael, and Abigail, the wijf of Nabal of Carmele.
So zog denn David dorthin samt seinen beiden Frauen Ahinoam aus Jesreel und Abigail, der Witwe Nabals, aus Karmel;
3 But also Dauid ledde the men that weren with hym, ech man with his hows; and thei dwelliden in the townes of Ebron.
auch seine Kriegsleute, die bei ihm waren, ließ er alle samt ihren Familien hinaufziehen, und sie ließen sich in den zu Hebron gehörigen Ortschaften nieder.
4 And the men of Juda camen, and anoyntiden there Dauid, that he schulde regne on the hows of Juda. And it was teld to Dauid, that men of Jabes of Galaad hadden biried Saul.
Da kamen die Männer von Juda und salbten David dort zum König über den Stamm Juda. Als man dann David die Nachricht brachte, daß die Männer von Jabes in Gilead es seien, die Saul begraben hätten,
5 Therfor Dauid sente messangeris to the men of Jabes of Galaad, and seide to hem, Blessid be ye of the Lord, that diden this mercy with your lord Saul, and birieden hym.
da sandte David Boten an die Einwohner von Jabes in Gilead und ließ ihnen sagen: »Der Segen des HERRN möge euch dafür zuteil werden, daß ihr Saul, eurem Herrn, diese Liebe erwiesen und ihn begraben habt!
6 And now sotheli the Lord schal yelde to you merci and treuthe, but also Y schal yelde thankyng, for ye diden this word.
So möge nun der HERR euch Güte und Treue erweisen! Und auch ich will euch dafür belohnen, daß ihr so gehandelt habt.
7 Youre hondis be coumfortid, and be ye sones of strengthe; for thouy youre lord Saul is deed, netheles the hows of Juda anoyntide me kyng to `hym silf.
Jetzt aber seid guten Mutes und beweist euch als wackere Männer! Denn Saul, euer Herr, ist (zwar) tot, aber der Stamm Juda hat mich zum König über sich gesalbt.«
8 Forsothe Abner, the sone of Ner, prince of the oost of Saul, took Isbosech, the sone of Saul, and ledde hym aboute bi the castels,
Abner aber, der Sohn Ners, der Heerführer Sauls, nahm Sauls Sohn Isboseth, brachte ihn nach Mahanaim hinüber
9 and made him kyng on Galaad, and on Gethsury, and on Jezrael, and on Effraym, and on Beniamyn, and on al Israel.
und machte ihn dort zum König über Gilead, über Asser, über Jesreel, Ephraim, Benjamin, überhaupt über ganz Israel.
10 Isbosech, the sone of Saul, was of fourti yeer, whanne he began to regne on Israel; and he regnede twei yeer. Sotheli the hous aloone of Juda suede Dauid.
Vierzig Jahre war Isboseth, der Sohn Sauls, alt, als er König über Israel wurde, und zwei Jahre lang hat er regiert; nur der Stamm Juda hielt zu David.
11 And the noumbre of daies, bi whiche Dauid dwellide regnynge in Ebron on the hows of Juda, was of seuene yeer and sixe monethis.
Die Zeit aber, die David als König über den Stamm Juda in Hebron regiert hat, betrug sieben Jahre und sechs Monate.
12 And Abner, the sone of Ner, yede out, and the children of Isbosech, sone of Saul, fro the castels in Gabaon.
Einst zog Abner, der Sohn Ners, mit den Leuten Isboseths, des Sohnes Sauls, von Mahanaim nach Gibeon;
13 Forsothe Joab, the sone of Saruye, and the children of Dauid yeden out, and camen to hem bisidis the cisterne in Gabaon. And whanne thei hadden come togidere in to o place euene ayens, these saten on o part of the cisterne, and thei on the tother.
ebenso rückte Joab, der Sohn der Zeruja, mit den Leuten Davids (von Hebron) aus; beide Heere stießen dann am Teiche von Gibeon aufeinander und lagerten sich, das eine diesseits, das andere jenseits des Teiches.
14 And Abner seide to Joab, `The children rise, and plei befor us. And Joab answeride, Rise thei.
Da ließ Abner dem Joab sagen: »Die jungen Leute könnten ja einmal auftreten und ein Kampfspiel vor unsern Augen aufführen!« Joab ließ antworten: »Gut! Es soll geschehen!«
15 Therfor thei risiden, and passiden twelue in noumbre of Beniamyn, of the part of Isbosech, sone of Saul; and twelue of the children of Dauid.
Da machten sie sich auf und traten einander abgezählt paarweise gegenüber: zwölf aus Benjamin für Isboseth, den Sohn Sauls, und zwölf von den Leuten Davids.
16 And ech man, whanne `the heed of his felowe was takun, fastnede the swerde in to the side of `the contrarye; and thei felden doun togidere. And the name of that place was clepid The Feeld of stronge men in Gabaon.
Da faßte jeder seinen Gegner beim Schopf und stieß ihm das Schwert in die Seite, so daß sie insgesamt fielen; daher nannte man jenen Ort ›Feld der Klingen‹; er liegt bei Gibeon.
17 And `batel hard ynow roos in that dai; and Abner and the sones of Israel `weren dryuun of the children of Dauid.
Als sich darauf an diesem Tage ein überaus erbitterter Kampf entspann, wurde Abner und das Heer der Israeliten von den Leuten Davids in die Flucht geschlagen.
18 Forsothe thre sones of Saruye weren there, Joab, and Abisai, and Asahel; forsothe Asahel was a `rennere moost swift, as oon of the capretis that dwellen in woodis.
Es befanden sich aber dort (im Heere Davids) die drei Söhne der Zeruja: Joab, Abisai und Asahel, von denen Asahel schnellfüßig war wie eine Gazelle auf dem Felde.
19 Forsothe Asahel pursuede Abner, and bowide not, nether to the riyt side nether to the left side, ceessynge to pursue Abner.
Als nun Asahel den Abner verfolgte, ohne weder nach rechts noch nach links bei der Verfolgung hinter Abner abzubiegen,
20 Therfor Abner bihelde bihynde his bac, and seide, Whether thou art Asahel?
wandte Abner sich um und rief: »Bist du es, Asahel?« Er antwortete: »Jawohl.«
21 Which answeride, Y am. And Abner seide to hym, Go to the riytside, ether to the lefte side; and take oon of the yonge men, and take to thee hise spuylis. Sotheli Asahel nolde ceesse, that ne he pursuede hym.
Da rief Abner ihm zu: »Wende dich doch nach links oder nach rechts (von mir) ab und mache dich an einen von den Leuten und nimm dir seine Rüstung!« Aber Asahel wollte nicht von ihm ablassen.
22 And eft Abner spak to Asahel, Go thou awei; nyle thou pursue me, lest Y be compellid to peerse thee in to erthe, and Y schal not mowe reise my face to Joab, thi brother.
Da rief Abner ihm noch einmal zu: »Gehe hinter mir weg! Warum soll ich dich zu Boden schlagen? Wie könnte ich dann noch deinem Bruder Joab vor die Augen treten?«
23 And Asahel dispiside to here, and nolde bowe awey. Therfor Abner smoot him `with the spere turned awei in the schar, and roof thorouy, and he was deed in the same place; and alle men that passiden bi the place, in which place Asahel felde doun, and was deed, stoden stille.
Als er trotzdem die Verfolgung nicht aufgeben wollte, stieß ihn Abner mit dem unteren Ende seines Speeres in den Unterleib, so daß der Speer hinten herausdrang und er dort zu Boden stürzte und an jener Stelle starb. Alle aber, die zu der Stelle kamen, wo Asahel gefallen und gestorben war, blieben stehen.
24 Forsothe while Joab and Abisai pursueden Abner fleynge, the sunne yede doun; and thei camen til to the litil hil of the water cundiyt, which is euene ayens the valey, and the weie of deseert in Gabaon.
Joab aber und Abisai setzten die Verfolgung Abners fort und waren bei Sonnenuntergang bis zum Hügel Amma gelangt, der Giah gegenüber in der Richtung nach der Wüste Gibeon zu liegt.
25 And the sones of Beniamyn weren gaderid to Abner, and thei weren gaderid togidere in to o cumpeny, and stoden in the hiynesse of oon heep of erthe.
Hier sammelten sich die Benjaminiten hinter Abner her, bildeten eine geschlossene Schar und setzten sich oben auf dem Hügel fest.
26 And Abner criede to Joab, and seide, Whether thi swerd schal be feers `til to sleyng? Whether thou knowist not, that dispeir is perelouse? Hou longe seist thou not to the puple, that it ceesse to pursue hise britheren?
Nun rief Abner dem Joab die Worte zu: »Soll denn das Schwert ewig fressen? Siehst du nicht, daß ein Verzweiflungskampf das Ende sein wird? Wann wirst du endlich deinen Leuten befehlen, von der Verfolgung ihrer Brüder abzustehen?«
27 And Joab seyde, The Lord lyueth, for if thou haddist spoke eerli, the puple pursuynge his brother hadde go awey.
Joab erwiderte: »So wahr Gott lebt! Hättest du nicht geredet, so hätten die Leute insgesamt erst morgen früh von der Verfolgung ihrer Brüder abgelassen!«
28 And Joab sownede with a clarioun, and al the oost stood; and thei pursueden no ferthere Israel, nether bigunnen batel.
Hierauf ließ Joab ein Zeichen mit der Posaune geben, und sofort machte das ganze Heer halt, gab die weitere Verfolgung der Israeliten auf und setzte den Kampf nicht fort.
29 Forsothe Abner and hise men yeden by the feeldi places of Moab in al that nyyt, and passiden Jordan; and whanne al Bethoron was compassid, thei camen to the castels.
Abner marschierte nun mit seinen Leuten während der ganzen folgenden Nacht durch die Jordanebene, überschritt dann den Jordan, durchzog das ganze Tal Bithron und gelangte so nach Mahanaim. –
30 Sotheli whanne Abner was left, Joab turnede ayen, and gaderide togidere al the puple; and ten men and nyne, outakun Asahel, failiden of the children of Dauid.
Als Joab aber die Verfolgung Abners aufgegeben und seine ganze Mannschaft wieder gesammelt hatte, wurden von den Leuten Davids außer Asahel nur neunzehn Mann vermißt,
31 Forsothe the seruauntis of Dauid smytiden of Beniamyn, and of the men that weren with Abner, thre hundrid men and sixti, whiche also weren deed.
während Davids Leute von den Benjaminiten und den übrigen Leuten Abners 360 Mann erschlagen hatten.
32 And thei token Asahel, and birieden hym in the sepulcre of his fadir in Bethleem. And Joab, and the men that weren with hym, yeden in al that nyyt, and in thilke morewtid thei camen in to Ebron.
Den Asahel aber hob man auf und begrub ihn im Begräbnis seines Vaters zu Bethlehem. Joab aber und seine Leute marschierten die ganze Nacht hindurch, bis sie bei Tagesanbruch in Hebron ankamen.
