Matthew 11
1 When Yeshua had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and proclaim in their cities.
イエスは自分の十二弟子に指図し終えると，彼らの町々で教えまた宣教するため，そこから去って行った。
2 Now when Yochanan heard in the prison the works of Messiah, he sent two of his disciples
さて，ヨハネはろうやの中でキリストの業について聞くと，自分の弟子のうちの二人を遣わして
3 and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?”
彼に言った，「あなたが来たるべき方なのですか。それとも，わたしたちはほかの方を待つべきでしょうか」。
4 Yeshua answered them, “Go and tell Yochanan the things which you hear and see:
イエスは彼らに言った，「行って，あなた方が見聞きしている事柄をヨハネに告げなさい。
5 the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
目の見えない人たちは見えるようになり，足の不自由な人たちは歩き，らい病の人たちは清められ，耳の聞こえない人たちは聞き，死んだ人たちは生き返らされ，貧しい人たちには良いたよりが宣教されている。
6 Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.”
わたしにつまずきのもとを見いださない者は幸いだ」 。
7 As these went their way, Yeshua began to say to the multitudes concerning Yochanan, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
これらの者たちが帰って行くと，イエスは群衆にヨハネについてこう言い始めた。「あなた方は何を見るために荒野へ出て行ったのか。風に揺れるアシか。
8 But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
そうでなければ，何を見るために出て行ったのか。柔らかな衣の人か。見よ，柔らかな衣を身に着けた者たちなら王たちの家にいる。
9 But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.
そうでなければ，なぜ出て行ったのか。預言者を見るためか。そうだ，あなた方に言うが，預言者よりはるかに優れた者だ。
10 For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’
この者は，『見よ，わたしはあなたの面前にわたしの使者を遣わす。その者はあなたの前に道を整えるだろう』と書かれている者だ。
11 Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than Yochanan the Immerser; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。女から生まれた者の中で，バプテスマを施す人ヨハネより偉大な者は起こされていない。だが，天の王国で最も小さな者も，彼よりは偉大だ。
12 From the days of Yochanan the Immerser until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
バプテスマを施す人ヨハネの日々から今に至るまで，天の王国は猛攻を受けている。そして，猛烈な者たちが力ずくでそれを奪い取っている。
13 For all the Prophets and the Torah prophesied until Yochanan.
すべての預言者たちと律法とは，ヨハネに至るまで預言したからだ。
14 If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come.
あなた方がそれを受け入れる気があるなら，この者こそ来たるべきエリヤなのだ。
15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
聞く耳のある者は聞きなさい。
16 “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions
「だが，わたしはこの世代を何と比べようか。それは，子供たちが市場に座って，自分たちの遊び仲間に呼びかけるのに似ている。
17 and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’
こう言うのだ，『君たちのために笛を吹いたのに，踊ってくれなかった。君たちのために悲しんだのに，嘆いてくれなかった』。
18 For Yochanan came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’
というのも，ヨハネがやって来て食べも飲みもしないと，彼らは，『彼には悪霊がいる』と言う。
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”
人の子がやって来て食べたり飲んだりすると，彼らは，『見ろ，大食いの大酒飲み，徴税人たちや罪人たちの友！』と言う。だが，知恵はその実によって，正しいことが証明されるのだ」 。
20 Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent.
それから彼は，彼の強力な業の多くがなされた町々を非難し始めた。それらが悔い改めなかったからである。
21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
「災いだ，コラジンよ！ 災いだ，ベツサイダよ！ あなた方の中でなされた強力な業がテュロスやシドンでなされていたなら，彼らはとっくの昔にあら布と灰の中で悔い改めていただろう。
22 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
だが，あなた方に告げる。裁きの日には，テュロスとシドンのほうがあなた方よりは耐えやすいだろう。
23 You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Sheol. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until today. (Hadēs g86)
カペルナウム，天まで高くされた者よ，あなたはハデスにまで下ることになる。あなたの中でなされた強力な業がソドムでなされていたなら，彼らは今日に至るまで残っていたことだろう。 (Hadēs g86)
24 But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.”
だが，あなた方に告げるが，裁きの日にはソドムの地のほうがあなたよりは耐えやすいだろう」 。
25 At that time, Yeshua answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.
その時，イエスは答えた，「父よ，天地の主よ，わたしはあなたに感謝します。あなたはこれらの事を賢い者や理解力のある者から隠し，それを幼子たちに明らかにされたからです。
26 Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.
そうです，父よ，そのようにして，あなたのみ前で意にかなうことが生じたのです。
27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
すべての事が，わたしの父によってわたしに引き渡されている。子を知っている者は父のほかにはおらず，父を知っている者は子と子が明らかにしたいと望む者のほかにはいない。
28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
「労苦し，重荷を負わされているすべての者よ，わたしのところに来なさい。そうすれば，わたしがあなた方に安らぎを与えよう。
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
わたしのくびきを負って，わたしから学びなさい。わたしは柔和で心のへりくだった者だからだ。そうすれば，あなた方は自分の魂に安らぎを見いだすだろう。
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
わたしのくびきは負いやすく，わたしの荷は軽いからだ」 。
