Judges 3
1 Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to test Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan;
Chúa Hằng Hữu giữ lại các dân tộc để thử luyện người Ít-ra-ên là những người chưa có kinh nghiệm chiến đấu tại Ca-na-an.
2 only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at least those who knew nothing of it before:
Chúa làm vậy để dạy cách chiến đấu cho các thế hệ Ít-ra-ên sau này, là những người chưa có kinh nghiệm nơi trận mạc.
3 the five lords of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon to the entrance of Hamath.
Các dân tộc này gồm: Người Phi-li-tin (sống dưới sự cai trị của năm lãnh chúa), người Ca-na-an, người Si-đôn, và người Hê-vi ở trên núi Li-ban, từ Núi Ba-anh Hẹt-môn đến lối vào Ha-mát.
4 They were left to test Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the LORD’s commandments, which he commanded their fathers by Moses.
Các dân tộc này được Chúa dùng để thử người Ít-ra-ên, xem họ có tuân theo các giáo lệnh Ngài đã truyền dạy họ qua Môi-se hay không.
5 The children of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
Như thế, người Ít-ra-ên sống chung với người Ca-na-an, Hê-tít, A-mô-rít, Phê-rết, Hê-vi, và Giê-bu,
6 They took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.
họ cưới con gái của các dân ấy làm vợ và gả con gái mình cho con trai các dân ấy. Hơn nữa, người Ít-ra-ên còn thờ phụng thần của các dân ấy.
7 The children of Israel did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, and forgot the LORD their God, and served the Baals and the Asheroth.
Người Ít-ra-ên phạm tội với Chúa Hằng Hữu, quên Ngài là Đức Chúa Trời mình. Họ đi thờ Ba-anh và các trụ A-sê-ra.
8 Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Cushan Rishathaim eight years.
Vì thế, Chúa Hằng Hữu nổi giận, cho Vua Cu-san Ri-sa-tha-im của A-ram Na-ha-ra-im đô hộ họ trong tám năm.
9 When the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a savior to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.
Đến khi người Ít-ra-ên kêu khóc với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Ngài cho Ốt-ni-ên, con Kê-na, cháu Ca-lép, đứng lên giải cứu họ khỏi ách nô lệ.
10 The LORD’s Spirit came on him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and the LORD delivered Cushan Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand. His hand prevailed against Cushan Rishathaim.
Thần Linh của Chúa Hằng Hữu ngự trên Ốt-ni-ên, rồi ông trở thành phán quan của Ít-ra-ên. Ông tiến quân chống lại Vua Cu-san Ri-sa-tha-im, của A-ram, Chúa Hằng Hữu cho Ốt-ni-ên chiến thắng vua ấy.
11 The land had rest forty years, then Othniel the son of Kenaz died.
Đất nước được thái bình bốn mươi năm. Rồi Ốt-ni-ên, con Kê-na, qua đời.
12 The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in the LORD’s sight.
Người Ít-ra-ên lại phạm tội với Chúa Hằng Hữu. Ngài cho Vua Éc-lôn của Mô-áp được cường thịnh và chống lại Ít-ra-ên.
13 He gathered the children of Ammon and Amalek to himself; and he went and struck Israel, and they possessed the city of palm trees.
Éc-lôn liên kết với quân Am-môn và quân A-ma-léc, đánh bại quân Ít-ra-ên, chiếm thành Cây Chà Là.
14 The children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.
Ít-ra-ên phải phục dịch Éc-lôn, vua Mô-áp mười tám năm.
15 But when the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a savior for them: Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. The children of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.
Nhưng khi người Ít-ra-ên kêu khóc với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Ngài dùng Ê-hút, con Ghê-ra, thuộc đại tộc Bên-gia-min, một người thuận tay trái, để giải cứu họ. Ông vốn là sứ thần đi triều cống Éc-lôn, vua Mô-áp.
16 Ehud made himself a sword which had two edges, a cubit in length; and he wore it under his clothing on his right thigh.
Lúc ấy, ông rèn một thanh gươm hai lưỡi, dài nửa thước buộc vào đùi bên phải, khuất dưới lớp áo,
17 He offered the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man.
và đi cống vua Mô-áp như thường lệ. Vua Éc-lôn là một người rất to béo.
18 When Ehud had finished offering the tribute, he sent away the people who carried the tribute.
Xong việc triều cống, Ê-hút cho các người khuân vác lễ vật về.
19 But he himself turned back from the stone idols that were by Gilgal, and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.” The king said, “Keep silence!” All who stood by him left him.
Ông cũng lên đường về, nhưng khi đến tảng đá chạm gần Ghinh-ganh, liền trở lại, nói với Éc-lôn: “Tôi xin tâu kín với vua một điều.” Vua truyền cho những người hầu cận đi ra.
20 Ehud came to him; and he was sitting by himself alone in the cool upper room. Ehud said, “I have a message from God to you.” He arose out of his seat.
Lúc vua chỉ còn lại một mình, ngồi trong một phòng nghỉ mát trên lầu cung điện, Ê-hút lại gần Éc-lôn nói: “Tôi xin tâu lại lời của Đức Chúa Trời dành cho vua.” Nghe thế, vua liền đứng dậy.
21 Ehud put out his left hand, and took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his body.
Ê-hút dùng tay trái rút gươm ở đùi phải ra, đăm vào bụng Éc-lôn.
22 The handle also went in after the blade; and the fat closed on the blade, for he didn’t draw the sword out of his body; and it came out behind.
Gươm đâm lút cán, mỡ dày phủ chung quanh gươm; vì người không rút ra, nên gươm đâm thấu tới sau lưng.
23 Then Ehud went out onto the porch, and shut the doors of the upper room on him, and locked them.
Ê-hút đi ra khóa cửa phòng lại, và thoát qua cổng.
24 After he had gone, his servants came and saw that the doors of the upper room were locked. They said, “Surely he is covering his feet in the upper room.”
Khi Ê-hút đã đi xa rồi, những người hầu cận Éc-lôn trở lại, thấy cửa phòng khóa chặt, liền nghĩ: “Chắc vua đang nghỉ ngơi trên phòng nghỉ mát.”
25 They waited until they were ashamed; and behold, he didn’t open the doors of the upper room. Therefore they took the key and opened them, and behold, their lord had fallen down dead on the floor.
Nhưng đứng đợi lâu quá đến nỗi hổ thẹn mà vẫn không thấy vua mở cửa, họ lấy chìa khóa mở cửa phòng ra, mới thấy vua nằm chết dưới sàn nhà.
26 Ehud escaped while they waited, passed beyond the stone idols, and escaped to Seirah.
Trong khi họ còn chần chờ, Ê-hút đã băng qua tảng đá chạm, thoát về Sê-i-ra.
27 When he had come, he blew a shofar in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill country, and he led them.
Về đến vùng cao nguyên Ép-ra-im, Ê-hút thổi kèn chiêu tập nghĩa quân và toàn dân Ít-ra-ên đều cùng người đi xuống khỏi núi và ông dẫn đầu họ.
28 He said to them, “Follow me; for the LORD has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.” They followed him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and didn’t allow any man to pass over.
Ê-hút nói với họ rằng: “Anh em theo tôi! Chúa Hằng Hữu giao nạp quân thù Mô-áp vào tay ta rồi.” Họ theo ông, chiếm những chỗ cạn của Sông Giô-đan trên đường dẫn đến Mô-áp, và không cho ai qua lại.
29 They struck at that time about ten thousand men of Moab, every strong man and every man of valor. No man escaped.
Rồi họ đánh quân Mô-áp, giết chừng 10.000 người, toàn là chiến sĩ, không ai thoát nổi.
30 So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. Then the land had rest eighty years.
Và hôm ấy, Ít-ra-ên khắc phục Mô-áp. Đất nước thái bình trong tám mươi năm.
31 After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who struck six hundred men of the Philistines with an ox goad. He also saved Israel.
Sau Ê-hút, có Sam-ga, con A-nát, giải cứu người Ít-ra-ên. Ông từng giết 600 người Phi-li-tin với một cây gậy có đầu nhọn dùng để thúc bò.
