Deuteronomy 9

1 Hear, Israel! You are to pass over the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,

১হে ইস্রায়েল, শোনো, তুমি নিজের থেকে মহান ও শক্তিশালী জাতিদেরকে, আকাশ পর্যন্ত দেওয়ালে ঘেরা বিশাল শহরগুলিকে, অধিকারচ্যুত করতে আজ যর্দ্দন (নদী) পার হয়ে যাচ্ছ;

2 a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, “Who can stand before the sons of Anak?”

২সেই জাতি বিশাল ও লম্বা, তারা অনাকীয়দের সন্তান; তুমি তাদেরকে জান, আর তাদের বিষয়ে তুমি তো এ কথা শুনেছ যে, “অনাক সন্তানদের সামনে কে দাঁড়াতে পারে?”

3 Know therefore today that the LORD your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire. He will destroy them and he will bring them down before you. So you shall drive them out and make them perish quickly, as the LORD has spoken to you.

৩কিন্তু আজ তুমি এটা জানো যে, তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু নিজে গ্রাসকারী আগুনের মতো তোমার আগে আগে যাচ্ছেন; তিনি তাদেরকে ধ্বংস করবেন, তাদেরকে তোমার সামনে নীচু করবেন; তাতে সদাপ্রভু তোমাকে যেমন বলেছেন, তেমনি তুমি তাদেরকে তাড়িয়ে দেবে ও তাড়াতাড়ি ধ্বংস করবে।

4 Don’t say in your heart, after the LORD your God has thrust them out from before you, “For my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land;” because the LORD drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.

৪তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু যখন তোমার সামনে থেকে তাদেরকে তাড়িয়ে দেবেন, তখন মনে মনে এমন ভেবো না যে, “আমার ধার্মিকতার জন্য সদাপ্রভু আমাকে এই দেশ অধিকার করাতে এনেছেন।” কারণ জাতিদের দুষ্টতার জন্যই সদাপ্রভু তাদেরকে তোমার সামনে থেকে তাড়িয়ে দেবেন।

5 Not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

৫তোমার ধার্ম্মিকতা কিংবা হৃদয়ের সরলতার জন্য তুমি যে তাদের দেশ অধিকার করতে যাচ্ছ, তা না; কিন্তু সেই জাতিদের দুষ্টতার জন্য এবং তোমার পূর্বপুরুষ অব্রাহাম, ইস্‌হাক ও যাকোবের কাছে শপথের মাধ্যমে দেওয়া আপনার বাক্য সফল করার জন্যে তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তোমার সামনে তাদেরকে তাড়িয়ে দেবেন।

6 Know therefore that the LORD your God doesn’t give you this good land to possess for your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.

৬অতএব জেনো যে তোমার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু যে তোমার ধার্মিকতার জন্য অধিকার করার জন্য তোমাকে এই উত্তম দেশ দেবেন, তা না; কারণ তুমি একগুঁয়ে জাতি।

7 Remember, and don’t forget, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you left the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

৭তুমি মরুপ্রান্তের মধ্যে নিজের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে যেমন অসন্তুষ্ট করেছিলে, তা মনে রেখো, ভুলে যেও না; মিশর দেশ থেকে বের হয়ে আসার দিন থেকে এই জায়গায় আসা পর্যন্ত তোমরা সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধাচারী হয়ে আসছ।

8 Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, and the LORD was angry with you to destroy you.

৮তোমরা হোরেবেও সদাপ্রভুকে অসন্তুষ্ট করেছিলে এবং সদাপ্রভু যথেষ্ট রেগে গিয়ে তোমাদেরকে ধ্বংস করতে চেয়েছিলেন।

9 When I had gone up onto the mountain to receive the stone tablets, even the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.

৯যখন আমি সেই দুটি পাথরের ফলক নেবার জন্যে পর্বতে উঠেছিলাম, তখন চল্লিশ দিন রাত পর্বতে থেকেছিলাম, খাবার খাওয়া কি জল পান করিনি।

10 The LORD delivered to me the two stone tablets written with God’s finger. On them were all the words which the LORD spoke with you on the mountain out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly.

১০আর সদাপ্রভু আমাকে ঈশ্বরের নিজের আঙ্গুল দিয়ে লেখা সেই দুটি পাথরের ফলক দিয়েছিলেন; পর্বতে সমাজের দিনের আগুনের মধ্যে থেকে সদাপ্রভু তোমাদেরকে যা যা বলেছিলেন, সেই সব কথা ঐ দুটি পাথরে লেখা ছিল।

11 It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights that the LORD gave me the two stone tablets, even the tablets of the covenant.

১১সেই চল্লিশ দিন রাতের শেষে সদাপ্রভু ওই দুটি পাথরের ফলক অর্থাৎ নিয়মের পাথরের ফলক আমাকে দিলেন।

12 The LORD said to me, “Arise, get down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned away from the way which I commanded them. They have made a molten image for themselves!”

১২আর সদাপ্রভু আমাকে বললেন, “ওঠ, এ জায়গা থেকে তাড়াতাড়ি যাও; কারণ তোমার যে লোকদেরকে তুমি মিশর থেকে বের করে এনেছ, তারা নিজেদেরকে ভ্রষ্ট করেছে; আমি যে আদেশ তাদেরকে করেছিলাম তা থেকে তারা তাড়াতাড়ি বিপথে চলে গেছে, তারা নিজেদের জন্য ছাঁচে ঢালা প্রতিমা তৈরী করেছে।”

13 Furthermore the LORD spoke to me, saying, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.

১৩সদাপ্রভু আমাকে আরও বললেন, “আমি এই লোকদেরকে দেখেছি, আর দেখ, তারা খুবই একগুঁয়ে লোক;

14 Leave me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.”

১৪তুমি আমার কাছ থেকে সরে যাও, আমি এদেরকে ধ্বংস করে আকাশমণ্ডলের নীচে থেকে এদের নাম মুছে ফেলি; আর আমি তোমাকে এদের থেকে শক্তিশালী ও মহান জাতি করব।”

15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire. The two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

১৫তখন আমি ফিরে পর্বত থেকে নেমে আসলাম, পর্বত আগুনে জ্বলছিল। তখন আমার দুই হাতে নিয়মের দুটি পাথরের ফলক ছিল।

16 I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God. You had made yourselves a molded calf. You had quickly turned away from the way which the LORD had commanded you.

১৬আমি দেখলাম, আর দেখ, তোমরা নিজেদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করেছিলে, নিজেদের জন্য ছাঁচে ঢালা এক বাছুর তৈরী করেছিলে; সদাপ্রভুর আদেশ দেওয়া রাস্তা থেকে তাড়াতাড়ি বিপথে চলে গিয়েছিলে।

17 I took hold of the two tablets, and threw them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

১৭তাতে আমি সেই দুটি পাথরের ফলক ধরে নিজের দুই হাত থেকে ফেলে তোমাদের সামনে ভাঙলাম।

18 I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, to provoke him to anger.

১৮আর তোমরা সদাপ্রভুর চোখে যা খারাপ, তা করে যে পাপ করেছিলে, তাঁর অসন্তোষজনক তোমাদের সেই সব পাপের জন্য আমি আগের মতো চল্লিশ দিন ও চল্লিশ রাত সদাপ্রভুর সামনে উপুড় হয়ে থাকলাম, আমি খাবার খায়নি বা জলও পান করে নি।

19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was angry against you to destroy you. But the LORD listened to me that time also.

১৯কারণ সদাপ্রভু তোমাদেরকে ধ্বংস করতে রেগে যাওয়াতে আমি তাঁর রাগ ও অসন্তুষ্টতার জন্য ভয় পেয়েছিলাম; কিন্তু সেই বারেও সদাপ্রভু আমার নিবেদন শুনলেন।

20 The LORD was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

২০আর সদাপ্রভু হারোণকে ধ্বংস করার জন্যে তাঁর ওপরে খুব রেগে গিয়েছিলেন, আমি ঠিক সেই দিনের হারোণের জন্যও প্রার্থনা করলাম।

21 I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire, and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. I threw its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.

২১আর আমি তোমাদের পাপ, সেই যে বাছুর তোমরা তৈরী করেছিলে, তা নিয়ে আগুনে পুড়িয়ে দিলাম ও যে পর্যন্ত তা ধূলোর মতো গুঁড়ো না হল, ততক্ষণ পিষে ভালোভাবে গুঁড়ো করলাম; পরে পর্বত থেকে বয়ে যাওয়া জলস্রোতে তাঁর ধূলো ফেলে দিলাম।

22 At Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked the LORD to wrath.

২২আর তোমরা তবিয়েরাতে, মঃসাতে ও কিব্রোৎহত্তাবাতে সদাপ্রভুকে উত্তেজিত করলে।

23 When the LORD sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, “Go up and possess the land which I have given you,” you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you didn’t believe him or listen to his voice.

২৩তার পর সদাপ্রভু যে দিনের কাদেশ বর্ণেয় থেকে তোমাদেরকে পাঠিয়ে বললেন, “তোমরা উঠে যাও, আমি তোমাদেরকে যে দেশ দিয়েছি, তা অধিকার কর;” সেই দিনের তোমরা নিজের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর আদেশের বিরুদ্ধাচারী হলে, তাঁতে বিশ্বাস করলে না ও তাঁর রবে কান দিলে না।

24 You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

২৪তোমাদের সঙ্গে সদাপ্রভু পরিচয়ের দিন থেকে তোমরা সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধাচারী হয়ে আসছ।

25 So I fell down before the LORD the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

২৫যা হোক, আমি উপুড় হয়ে থাকলাম; ঐ চল্লিশ দিন রাত আমি সদাপ্রভুর সামনে উপুড় হয়ে থাকলাম; কারণ সদাপ্রভু তোমাদেরকে ধ্বংস করার কথা বলেছিলেন।

26 I prayed to the LORD, and said, “Lord GOD, don’t destroy your people and your inheritance that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

২৬আর আমি সদাপ্রভুর কাছে এই প্রার্থনা করলাম, “প্রভু সদাপ্রভু, তুমি নিজের অধিকারস্বরূপ যে লোকদেরকে নিজের মহিমায় মুক্ত করেছ ও শক্তিশালী হাতের মাধ্যমে মিশর থেকে বের করে এনেছ, তাদেরকে ধ্বংস কর না।

27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Don’t look at the stubbornness of this people, nor at their wickedness, nor at their sin,

২৭তোমার দাসদেরকে, অব্রাহাম, ইস্‌হাক ও যাকোবকে মনে কর; এই লোকদের একগুঁয়েমিতার, দুষ্টতার ও পাপের প্রতি দেখ না;

28 lest the land you brought us out from say, ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’

২৮সুতরাং তুমি আমাদেরকে যে দেশ থেকে বের করে এনেছ, সেই দেশীয় লোকেরা এই কথা বলে, সদাপ্রভু ওদেরকে যে দেশ দিতে প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিলেন, সে দেশে নিয়ে যেতে পারেননি এবং তাদেরকে ঘৃণা করেছেন বলেই তিনি মরুপ্রান্তে হত্যা করার জন্যে তাদেরকে বের করে এনেছেন।

29 Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.”

২৯তবুও তারাই তোমার লোক ও তোমার অধিকার; এদেরকে তুমি নিজের মহাশক্তি ও ক্ষমতা প্রদর্শনের মাধ্যমে বের করে এনেছ।”
