Numbers 20
1 The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month. The people stayed in Kadesh. Miriam died there, and was buried there.
E chegaram os filhos de Israel, toda a congregação, ao deserto de Zim, no mês primeiro, e assentou o povo em Cades; e ali morreu Miriã, e foi ali sepultada.
2 There was no water for the congregation; and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
E como não havia água para a congregação, juntaram-se contra Moisés e Arão.
3 The people quarrelled with Moses, and spoke, saying, “We wish that we had died when our brothers died before the LORD!
E brigou o povo com Moisés, e falaram dizendo: Antes que nós tivéssemos morrido quando pereceram nossos irmãos diante do SENHOR!
4 Why have you brought the LORD’s assembly into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?
E por que fizeste vir a congregação do SENHOR a este deserto, para que morramos aqui nós e nossos animais?
5 Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.”
E por que nos fizeste subir do Egito, para trazer-nos a este mal lugar? Não é lugar de sementeira, de figueiras, de vinhas, nem romãs: nem ainda de água para beber.
6 Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces. The LORD’s glory appeared to them.
E foram-se Moisés e Arão de diante da congregação à porta do tabernáculo do testemunho, e lançaram-se sobre seus rostos; e a glória do SENHOR apareceu sobre eles.
7 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
E falou o SENHOR a Moisés, dizendo:
8 “Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it pour out its water. You shall bring water to them out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink.”
Toma a vara e reúne a congregação, tu e Arão teu irmão, e falai à rocha em olhos deles; e ela dará sua água, e lhes tirarás águas da rocha, e darás de beber à congregação, e a seus animais.
9 Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
Então Moisés tomou a vara de diante do SENHOR, como ele lhe mandou.
10 Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Shall we bring water out of this rock for you?”
E juntaram Moisés e Arão a congregação diante da rocha, e disse-lhes: Ouvi agora, rebeldes: Faremos para vós sair águas desta rocha?
11 Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice, and water came out abundantly. The congregation and their livestock drank.
Então levantou Moisés sua mão, e feriu a rocha com sua vara duas vezes: e saíram muitas águas, e bebeu a congregação, e seus animais.
12 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you didn’t believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”
E o SENHOR disse a Moisés e a Arão: Porquanto não crestes em mim, para santificar-me aos olhos dos filhos de Israel, portanto, não poreis esta congregação na terra que lhes dei.
13 These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.
Estas são as águas da briga, pelas quais contenderam os filhos de Israel com o SENHOR, e ele se santificou neles.
14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: “Your brother Israel says: You know all the travail that has happened to us;
E enviou Moisés embaixadores ao rei de Edom desde Cades: Assim diz Israel teu irmão: Tu soubeste todo o trabalho que nos veio:
15 how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers.
Como nossos pais desceram ao Egito, e estivemos no Egito longo tempo, e os egípcios nos maltrataram, e a nossos pais;
16 When we cried to the LORD, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.
E clamamos ao SENHOR, o qual ouviu nossa voz, e enviou anjo, e tirou-nos do Egito; e eis que estamos em Cades, cidade ao extremo de teus confins:
17 “Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink from the water of the wells. We will go along the king’s highway. We will not turn away to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border.”
Rogamo-te que passemos por tua terra; não passaremos por lavoura, nem por vinha, nem beberemos água de poços: pelo caminho real iremos, sem apartar-nos à direita nem à esquerda, até que havemos passado teu termo.
18 Edom said to him, “You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you.”
E Edom lhe respondeu: Não passarás por minha terra, de outra maneira sairei contra ti armado.
19 The children of Israel said to him, “We will go up by the highway; and if we drink your water, I and my livestock, then I will give its price. Only let me, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.”
E os filhos de Israel disseram: Pelo caminho seguido iremos; e se bebermos tuas águas eu e meus gados, darei o preço delas: certamente sem fazer outra coisa, passarei de seguida.
20 He said, “You shall not pass through.” Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.
E ele respondeu: Não passarás. E saiu Edom contra ele com muito povo, e mão forte.
21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.
Não quis, pois, Edom deixar passar a Israel por seu termo, e apartou-se Israel dele.
22 They travelled from Kadesh, and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.
E partidos de Cades os filhos de Israel, toda aquela congregação, vieram ao monte de Hor.
23 The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,
E o SENHOR falou a Moisés e Arão no monte de Hor, nos confins da terra de Edom, dizendo:
24 “Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.
Arão será reunido a seus povos; pois não entrará na terra que eu dize aos filhos de Israel, porquanto fostes rebeldes a meu mandamento nas águas da briga.
25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;
Toma a Arão e a Eleazar seu filho, e faze-os subir ao monte de Hor;
26 and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron shall be gathered, and shall die there.”
E faze desnudar a Arão suas roupas, e viste delas a Eleazar seu filho; porque Arão será reunido a seus povos, e ali morrerá.
27 Moses did as the LORD commanded. They went up onto Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
E Moisés fez como o SENHOR lhe mandou: e subiram ao monte de Hor à vista de toda a congregação.
28 Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
E Moisés fez desnudar a Arão de suas roupas e vestiu-as a Eleazar seu filho: e Arão morreu ali no cume do monte: e Moisés e Eleazar desceram do monte.
29 When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
E vendo toda a congregação que Arão era morto, fizeram-lhe luto por trinta dias todas as famílias de Israel.
