Matthew 23
1 Then Yeshua spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
それからイエスは群衆と弟子たちに語って
2 saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
言った，「律法学者たちとファリサイ人たちはモーセの座に着いている。
3 All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
だから，彼らがあなた方に守るよう教えることはみな守り行ないなさい。だが，彼らの業には見倣ってはいけない。彼らは言いはするが，行なわないからだ。
4 For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
担いきれないほどの重荷を束ねて人々の肩に載せるが，自分では彼らを助けるために指一本も持ち上げようともしない。
5 But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
自分たちの業すべてを，単に人に見せようとして行なっているのだ。自分たちの聖句入れを広くし，自分たちの衣の房べりを大きくする。
6 and love the place of honour at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
彼らが好むのは，祝宴での上座や会堂での上席，
7 the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
市場でのあいさつや人々に『ラビ，ラビ』と呼ばれることなのだ。
8 But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your Rabbi, the Messiah, and all of you are brothers.
だが，あなた方は『ラビ』と呼ばれてはいけない。あなた方の教師はただ一人，キリストで，あなた方はみな兄弟だからだ。
9 Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
地上のだれをも自分たちの父と呼んではいけない。あなた方の父はただ一人，天におられる方だからだ。
10 Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Messiah.
また，師と呼ばれてはいけない。あなた方の師はただ一人，キリストだからだ。
11 But he who is greatest amongst you will be your servant.
だが，あなた方の間で一番偉い者は，あなた方の召使いになるだろう。
12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
だれでも自分を高くする者は低くされ，自分を低くする者は高められるだろう。
13 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretence you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
「あなた方は災いだ，律法学者たちとファリサイ人たち，偽善者たちよ！ あなた方はやもめたちの家々を食い物にし，見せかけのために長い祈りをするからだ。だから，あなた方は最も厳しい裁きを受けるだろう。
14 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
「だが，あなた方は災いだ，律法学者たちとファリサイ人たち，偽善者たちよ！ あなた方は人々の前で天の王国を閉ざすからだ。自分たちが入らないばかりか，入ろうとする者たちにも入らせないのだ。
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehinnom as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
あなた方は災いだ，律法学者たちとファリサイ人たち，偽善者たちよ！ あなた方は一人の改宗者を作るために海と陸を巡り歩き，それができると，自分に倍するほどのゲヘナの子とするからだ。 (Geenna g1067)
16 “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
「あなた方は災いだ，盲目の案内人たち，『だれでも神殿にかけて誓うなら，それは無意味だが，神殿の金にかけて誓うなら，その者には果たす義務がある』と言う者よ。
17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
盲目の愚か者たちよ！ 金と，その金を聖別する神殿とでは，どちらが偉大なのか。
18 And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
また，『だれでも祭壇にかけて誓うなら，それは無意味だが，その上にある供え物にかけて誓うなら，その者には果たす義務がある』とも言う。
19 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
盲目の愚か者たちよ！ 供え物と，その供え物を聖別する祭壇とでは，どちらが偉大なのか。
20 He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
だから，祭壇にかけて誓う者は，祭壇とその上にあるすべての物にかけて誓っているのだ。
21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
神殿にかけて誓う者は，神殿とそこに住んでおられる方にかけて誓っているのだ。
22 He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
天にかけて誓う者は，神のみ座とその上に座っておられる方にかけて誓っているのだ。
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the Torah: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
「あなた方は災いだ，律法学者たちとファリサイ人たち，偽善者たちよ！ あなた方はハッカ，イノンド，クミンの十分の一税は納めていながら，律法のもっと重要な事柄，すなわち公正とあわれみと忠実をなおざりにしている。
24 You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
盲目の案内人よ，ブヨはこして除きながら，ラクダをのみ込む者たちよ！
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
「あなた方は災いだ，律法学者たちとファリサイ人たち，偽善者たちよ！ あなた方は杯と皿の外側は清めるが，内側は強奪と不義で満ちているからだ。
26 You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
盲目のファリサイ人よ，外側も清くするために，まず杯と皿の内側を清めなさい。
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
「あなた方は災いだ，律法学者たちとファリサイ人たち，偽善者たちよ！ あなた方は白く塗った墓に似ているからだ。外側は美しく見えるが，内側は死んだ者たちの骨とあらゆる汚れでいっぱいだ。
28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
このようにあなた方も，人には外側は義人のように見えるが，内側は偽善と不法でいっぱいだ。
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
「あなた方は災いだ，律法学者たちとファリサイ人たち，偽善者たちよ！ あなた方は預言者たちの墓を建て，義人たちの墓を飾り立てて，
30 and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
『我々が父祖たちの日々に生きていたなら，彼らと共に預言者たちの血にあずかる者にはならなかっただろうに』と言う。
31 Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
こうしてあなた方は，預言者たちを殺した者たちの子供であることを自分で証明している。
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
それなら，あなた方の父祖たちのますを満たしなさい。
33 You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgement of Gehinnom? (Geenna g1067)
蛇よ，マムシらの子孫よ，あなた方はどうしてゲヘナの裁きを逃れることができようか。 (Geenna g1067)
34 Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
それゆえ，見よ，わたしはあなた方に預言者たちと賢人たちと律法学者たちを遣わす。あなた方は，そのうちのある者たちを殺してはりつけにし，ある者たちを自分たちの会堂でむち打ち，町から町へと迫害するだろう。
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
それは，義なるアベルの血から，あなた方が聖所と祭壇の間で殺したバラキアの子ザカリヤの血に至るまで，地上で流されたすべての義なる血があなた方の上にふりかかるためだ。
36 Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
本当にはっきりとあなた方に告げる。こうした事柄すべては，この世代の上にふりかかるだろう。
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
「エルサレム，エルサレム，預言者たちを殺し，自分のところに遣わされた者たちを石打ちにする者よ！ めんどりがそのひなを翼の下に集めるように，わたしは幾たびあなたの子らを集めようとしたことか。だが，あなた方は応じなかった！
38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
見よ，あなた方の家は荒れ果てたままに残される。
39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
あなた方に告げるが，あなた方は，『主の名において来る者は幸いだ！』と言うときまでは，今後決してわたしを見ることはないだろう」 。
