Yochanan 7
1 After these things, Yeshua was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’t walk in Judea, because the Judeans sought to kill him.
こうした事ののち，イエスはガリラヤで歩いていた。ユダヤ人たちが彼を殺そうとしていたので，ユダヤで歩こうとはしなかったからである。
2 Now the Jewish festival, the Feast of Sukkot, was at hand.
さて，ユダヤ人の仮小屋の祭りが近づいていた。
3 His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.
それでその兄弟たちは彼に言った，「ここを去ってユダヤに行きなさい。あなたの行なう業を弟子たちも見ることができるようにするためだ。
4 For no one does anything in secret while he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”
物事をこっそりと行ないながら，自分が公に知られることを求める者はいないからだ。こうした事柄を行なっているのなら，自分を世に示しなさい」。
5 For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.
というのは，その兄弟たちでさえ彼を信じていなかったからである。
6 Yeshua therefore said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.
それでイエスは彼らに言った，「わたしの時はまだ来ていないが，あなた方の時はいつでも用意ができている。
7 The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.
世はあなた方を憎むことはできないが，わたしを憎む。わたしが世について，その業が悪いことを証言するからだ。
8 You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”
あなた方は祭りに上って行くがよい。わたしはまだこの祭りに上って行かない。わたしの時はまだ満ちていないからだ」 。
9 Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.
彼らにこうした事柄を言って，彼はガリラヤにとどまった。
10 But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.
しかし，その兄弟たちが祭りに上って行ってから，彼自身も，おおっぴらにではなくひそかに上って行った。
11 The Judeans therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?”
そこでユダヤ人たちは祭りで彼を探して，「彼はどこだ」と言った。
12 There was much murmuring amongst the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”
群衆の間では彼に関するささやきが多くあった。ある者は「彼は善い人だ」と言った。他の者たちは「そうではない。彼は群衆を惑わしているのだ」と言っていた。
13 Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Judeans.
それでも，ユダヤ人たちへの恐れのために，彼についておおっぴらに話す者はいなかった。
14 But when it was now the middle of the feast, Yeshua went up into the temple and taught.
しかし，すでに祭りの半ばになった時，イエスは神殿に上って来て教えた。
15 The Judeans therefore marvelled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”
それでユダヤ人たちは驚嘆して言った，「この人は教育されたことがないのに，どうして文字を知っているのか」。
16 Yeshua therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
それでイエスは彼らに答えた，「わたしの教えはわたしのものではなく，わたしを遣わされた方のものだ。
17 If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God or if I am speaking from myself.
だれでもその方のご意志を行ないたいと思うなら，わたしの教えについて，それが神からのものなのか，それともわたしが自分から話しているのかが分かるはずだ。
18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
自分から話す者は自分の栄光を求める。しかし，自分を遣わした方の栄光を求める者は真実な者であって，その人の内には不正がない。
19 Didn’t Moses give you the Torah, and yet none of you keeps the Torah? Why do you seek to kill me?”
モーセはあなた方に律法を与えなかっただろうか。それなのに，あなた方のうちのだれも律法を守っていない。あなた方はなぜわたしを殺そうとしているのか」 。
20 The multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”
群衆は答えた，「あなたは悪魔に取りつかれている！ だれがあなたを殺そうとしているのか」。
21 Yeshua answered them, “I did one work and you all marvel because of it.
イエスは彼らに答えた，「わたしが一つの業を行なうと，あなた方はみなそれによって驚嘆する。
22 Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.
モーセはあなた方に割礼を与えた（モーセからではなく，父祖たちからなのだが）。それで，あなた方は安息日にも男の子に割礼を施している。
23 If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the Torah of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?
モーセの律法を破らないようにするため，男の子は安息日に割礼を受けるというのに，安息日に人の全身をいやしたからといってわたしに対して腹を立てるのか。
24 Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgement.”
うわべによって裁かずに，公正な裁きで裁きなさい」 。
25 Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill?
それでエルサレムの住民の何人かが言った，「これは彼らが殺そうとしている人ではないか。
26 Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Messiah?
見よ，彼がおおっぴらに話しているのに，彼らはこの人に何も言わない。支配者たちはこの人が本当にキリストだと確かに分かったのだろうか。
27 However, we know where this man comes from, but when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he comes from.”
だが，我々はこの人がどこから来たかを知っている。キリストが来られる時には，彼がどこから来たのかだれも知らないはずだ」。
28 Yeshua therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.
それでイエスは，神殿で大声を上げ，教えて言った，「あなた方はわたしを知っており，わたしがどこから来たかを知っている。わたしは自分の考えで来たのではなく，わたしを遣わされた方は真実な方だ。あなた方はその方を知っていない。
29 I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”
わたしはその方を知っている。わたしはその方のもとから来ており，その方がわたしを遣わされたからだ」 。
30 They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
そのため，彼らは彼を捕まえようとした。しかし，だれも彼に手をかけるものはいなかった。彼の時はまだ来ていなかったからである。
31 But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Messiah comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”
しかし，群衆の多くが彼を信じた。彼らは言った，「キリストが来られる時にも，この人がしたよりも多くのしるしは行なわないのではないだろうか」。
32 The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.
ファリサイ人たちは，群衆が彼に関してこれらの事をささやいているのを聞いた。それで，祭司長たちとファリサイ人たちは，彼を逮捕するために役人たちを遣わした。
33 Then Yeshua said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.
するとイエスは言った，「ほんの少しの間，わたしはあなた方と共にいる。それから，わたしを遣わした方のもとへ行く。
34 You will seek me and won’t find me. You can’t come where I am.”
あなた方はわたしを探すが，見つけることができない。そして，わたしのいる所にあなた方は来ることができない」 。
35 The Judeans therefore said amongst themselves, “Where will this man go that we won’t find him? Will he go to the Diaspora amongst the Greeks and teach the Greeks?
それでユダヤ人たちは互いに言い合った，「我々の見つけることができないとは，いったいどこに行こうとしているのだろう。ギリシャ人の間の離散者のところに行って，ギリシャ人に教えようとしているのだろうか。
36 What is this word that he said, ‘You will seek me, and won’t find me;’ and ‘Where I am, you can’t come’?”
『あなた方はわたしを探すが，見つけることができない。そして，わたしのいる所にあなた方は来ることができない』 と彼が言うこの言葉はどういうことなのだろう」。
37 Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Yeshua stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!
さて，祭りの大いなる最後の日に，イエスは立ち上がり，叫んで言った，「だれでも渇く者がいれば，わたしのところに来て飲むように。
38 He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”
わたしを信じる者は，聖書が述べているとおり，その人の内から生きた水の流れが流れ出るだろう」 。
39 But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Yeshua wasn’t yet glorified.
しかし，彼は，自分を信じる者たちが受けようとしていた霊について言ったのである。というのは，聖霊がまだ与えられていなかったからであり，それはイエスがまだ栄光を受けていなかったからであった。
40 Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “This is truly the Prophet.”
それで，群衆の多くはこれらの言葉を聞いた時，「この人は本当にあの預言者だ」と言った。
41 Others said, “This is the Messiah.” But some said, “What, does the Messiah come out of Galilee?
ほかの者たちは「この人はキリストだ」と言った。しかし，ある者たちは言った，「まさかキリストがガリラヤから出るだろうか。
42 Hasn’t the Scripture said that the Messiah comes of the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
聖書は，キリストがダビデの子孫から，またダビデのいた村ベツレヘムから出ると述べていないだろうか」。
43 So a division arose in the multitude because of him.
そこで，彼のために群衆の中で分裂が生じた。
44 Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.
彼らのうち何人かは彼を逮捕したいと思ったが，彼に手をかける者はいなかった。
45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”
それで役人たちは，祭司長たちとファリサイ人たちのところへ戻ってきた。すると彼らは役人たちに言った，「なぜ彼を連れて来なかったのか」。
46 The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”
役人たちは答えた，「あの人のように話した人はいまだかつてありません」。
47 The Pharisees therefore answered them, “You aren’t also led astray, are you?
それでファリサイ人たちは彼らに答えた，「あなた方も惑わされてしまったわけではあるまい。
48 Have any of the rulers or any of the Pharisees believed in him?
支配者たちやファリサイ人たちの中に，彼を信じた者がいるだろうか。
49 But this multitude that doesn’t know the Torah is cursed.”
だが，律法を知らないこの群衆はのろわれているのだ」。
50 Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,
ニコデモ（彼らの一員で，夜に彼のもとに来た者）が彼らに言った，
51 “Does our Torah judge a man unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”
「我々の律法は，まずその人から聞いて，その人が何をしているかを知っていなければ，人を裁くだろうか」。
52 They answered him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”
彼らは彼に答えた，「あなたもガリラヤの出身なのか。調べてみよ。預言者がガリラヤからは生じないことが分かるだろう」。
53 Everyone went to his own house,
みんなは自分の家に帰った。
