Yochanan 18
1 When Yeshua had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.
| ויהי ככלות ישוע לדבר את הדברים האלה ויצא החוצה עם תלמידיו מעבר לנחל קדרון ושם גן ויבא בו הוא ותלמידיו׃ |
2 Now Judah, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Yeshua often met there with his disciples.
| וגם יהודה מוסרו ידע את המקום כי פעמים רבות נועד שמה ישוע עם תלמידיו׃ |
3 Judah then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
| ויקח יהודה את הגדוד ומשרתים מאת הכהנים הגדולים והפרושים ויבא שמה בנרות ובלפידים ובכלי נשק׃ |
4 Yeshua therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”
| וישוע ידע את כל אשר יבא עליו ויצא ויאמר אליהם את מי תבקשו׃ |
5 They answered him, “Yeshua of Nazareth.” Yeshua said to them, “I am he.” Judah also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
| ויענו ויאמרו את ישוע הנצרי ויאמר אליהם ישוע אני הוא וגם יהודה מוסרו עמד אצלם׃ |
6 When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward and fell to the ground.
| ויהי בדבר ישוע אליהם אני הוא ויסגו אחור ויפלו ארצה׃ |
7 Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Yeshua of Nazareth.”
| ויסף וישאל אתם את מי תבקשו ויאמרו את ישוע הנצרי׃ |
8 Yeshua answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”
| ויען ישוע הלא אמרתי לכם אני הוא לכן אם אתי תבקשו הניחו לאלה וילכו׃ |
9 that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.”
| למלאת הדבר אשר אמר מאלה אשר נתת לי לא אבד לי אף אחד׃ |
10 Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
| ולשמעון פטרוס חרב וישלפה ויך את עבד הכהן הגדול ויקצץ את אזנו הימנית ושם העבד מלכוס׃ |
11 Yeshua therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”
| ויאמר ישוע אל פטרוס השב חרבך אל נדנה הכי לא אשתה את הכוס אשר נתן לי אבי׃ |
12 So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews seized Yeshua and bound him,
| אז תפשו הגדוד ושר האלף ומשרתי היהודים את ישוע ויאסרהו׃ |
13 and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
| ויוליכהו בראשונה אל חנן והוא חתן קיפא אשר שמש בכהנה גדולה בשנה ההיא׃ |
14 Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Judeans that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.
| הוא קיפא אשר יעץ את היהודים כי טוב אשר איש אחד יאבד בעד כל העם׃ |
15 Simon Peter followed Yeshua, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Yeshua into the court of the high priest;
| ושמעון פטרוס ותלמיד אחר הלכו אחרי ישוע והתלמיד ההוא היה נודע לכהן הגדול ויבא עם ישוע לחצר הכהן הגדול׃ |
16 but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.
| ופטרוס עמד מחוץ לפתח ויצא התלמיד האחר המידע לכהן הגדול וידבר אל השערת ויבא את פטרוס פנימה׃ |
17 Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”
| ותאמר האמה השערת אל פטרוס הלא גם אתה מתלמידי האיש הזה ויאמר אינני׃ |
18 Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.
| והעבדים והמשרתים בערו אש גחלים כי עת קר היתה ויעמדו שם ויתחממו וגם פטרוס עמד עמם ומתחמם׃ |
19 The high priest therefore asked Yeshua about his disciples and about his teaching.
| וישאל הכהן הגדול את ישוע על תלמידיו ועל לקחו׃ |
20 Yeshua answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.
| ויען אתו ישוע אנכי בגלוי דברתי אל העולם ותמיד למדתי בבית הכנסת ובבית המקדש אשר כל היהודים נקהלים שמה ולא דברתי דבר בסתר׃ |
21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, they know the things which I said.”
| ומה תשאל אתי שאל נא את השמעים מה שדברתי אליהם הנם יודעים את אשר אמרתי׃ |
22 When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Yeshua with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”
| ויהי כדברו הדברים האלה ויך אחד המשרתים העמד שמה את ישוע על הלחי ויאמר הכזאת תענה את הכהן הגדול׃ |
23 Yeshua answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”
| ויען אותו ישוע אם רעה דברתי תנה עד כי רעה היא ואם טוב מדוע תסטרני׃ |
24 Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
| וישלחהו חנן אסור בזקים אל קיפא הכהן הגדול׃ |
25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
| ושמעון פטרוס עמד ומתחמם ויאמרו אליו הלא גם אתה מתלמידיו ויכחש ויאמר אינני׃ |
26 One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”
| ויאמר איש מעבדי הכהן הגדול והוא מודע לאשר קצץ פטרוס את אזנו הלא ראיתיך עמו בתוך הגן׃ |
27 Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.
| ויסף פטרוס לכחש ופתאם קרא התרנגול׃ |
28 They led Yeshua therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
| ויוליכו את ישוע מבית קיפא אל בית המשפט ויהי בבקר השכם והמה לא נכנסו אל בית המשפט למען אשר לא יטמאו כי אם יאכלו את הפסח׃ |
29 Pilate therefore went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”
| ויצא פילטוס אליהם ויאמר על מה תאשימו את האיש הזה׃ |
30 They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”
| ויענו ויאמרו אליו לולא היה זה עשה רע כי עתה לא הסגרנהו אליך׃ |
31 Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Judeans said to him, “It is illegal for us to put anyone to death,”
| ויאמר אליהם פילטוס קחהו אתם עמכם ועשו משפטו כתורתכם ויאמרו אליו היהודים אין לנו רשיון להמית איש׃ |
32 that the word of Yeshua might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
| למלאת דבר ישוע אשר דבר לרמז אי זה מות עתיד הוא למות׃ |
33 Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Yeshua, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
| וישב פילטוס אל בית המשפט ויקרא אל ישוע ויאמר אליו האתה הוא מלך היהודים׃ |
34 Yeshua answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”
| ויען אתו ישוע המלבך תדבר זאת או אחרים הגידו לך עלי׃ |
35 Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”
| ויען פילטוס האף אנכי יהודי הלא עמך וראשי הכהנים הסגירוך אלי מה עשית׃ |
36 Yeshua answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Judeans. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”
| ויען ישוע מלכותי איננה מן העולם הזה אם היתה מלכותי מן העולם הזה כי אז נלחמו לי משרתי לבלתי המסר ביד היהודים ועתה מלכותי איננה מפה׃ |
37 Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Yeshua answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
| ויאמר אליו פילטוס אם כן אפוא מלך אתה ויען ישוע אתה אמרת כי מלך אנכי לזה נולדתי ולזה באתי בעולם להעיד לאמת כל אשר הוא מן האמת ישמע בקולי׃ |
38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Judeans, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.
| ויאמר אליו פילטוס מה היא האמת ואחרי דברו זאת יצא שנית אל היהודים ויאמר אליהם אני לא מצאתי בו כל עון׃ |
39 But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore, do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
| הן מנהג הוא בכם כי אשלח לכם איש אחד חפשי בפסח היש את נפשכם כי אשלח לכם את מלך היהודים׃ |
40 Then they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
| ויוסיפו ויצעקו לאמר לא את האיש הזה אלא את בר אבא ובר אבא היה מרצח׃ |
