Yochanan 18
1 When Yeshua had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.
Ayant ainsi parlé, Jésus, accompagné de ses disciples, passa au delà du torrent de Cédron, où se trouvait un jardin dans lequel il entra avec eux.
2 Now Judah, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Yeshua often met there with his disciples.
Judas, qui le livrait, connaissait aussi ce lieu-là, parce que Jésus y était souvent allé avec ses disciples.
3 Judah then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
Judas donc, à la tête de la cohorte et des agents des principaux sacrificateurs et des pharisiens, y vint avec des lanternes, des flambeaux et des armes.
4 Yeshua therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went out and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”
Alors Jésus, qui savait tout ce qui devait lui arriver, sortit et leur dit: «Qui cherchez- vous?»
5 They answered him, “Yeshua of Nazareth.” Yeshua said to them, “I am he.” Judah also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
Ils lui répondirent: «Jésus de Nazareth.» Jésus leur dit: «C'est moi.» Or Judas, qui le livrait, était là avec eux.
6 When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward and fell to the ground.
Lorsque Jésus leur eut dit, «c'est moi, » ils reculèrent et tombèrent par terre.
7 Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Yeshua of Nazareth.”
Il leur demanda une seconde fois: «Qui cherchez-vous?» Ils répondirent: «Jésus de Nazareth.»
8 Yeshua answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”
Jésus reprit: «Je vous ai dit que c'est moi. Si donc c'est moi que vous cherchez, laissez aller ceux-ci.»
9 that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.”
Il parla ainsi, afin que s'accomplît cette parole qu'il avait dite: «Je n'ai perdu aucun de ceux que tu m'as donnés.»
10 Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
Simon Pierre, qui avait une épée, la tira, en frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et lui coupa l'oreille droite: ce serviteur s'appelait Malchus.
11 Yeshua therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”
Jésus dit à Pierre: «Remets ton épée dans le fourreau: ne boirai-je pas le calice que mon Père m'a donné à boire?»
12 So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews seized Yeshua and bound him,
Alors la cohorte, le tribun et les agents des Juifs se saisirent de Jésus, le lièrent,
13 and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
et l'emmenèrent d'abord chez Anne: c'était le beau-père de Caïphe qui était souverain sacrificateur cette année-là,
14 Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Judeans that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.
et Caïphe était celui qui avait donné aux Juifs ce conseil: «Il est avantageux qu'un seul homme périsse pour le peuple.»
15 Simon Peter followed Yeshua, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Yeshua into the court of the high priest;
Cependant Simon Pierre et l'autre disciple suivaient Jésus. Ce disciple était connu du souverain sacrificateur, et il entra en même temps que Jésus dans la cour du souverain sacrificateur,
16 but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.
tandis que Pierre était resté à la porte, en dehors. L'autre disciple, qui était connu du souverain sacrificateur, sortit donc, parla à la portière, et fit entrer Pierre.
17 Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”
Alors cette servante dit à Pierre: «N'es-tu pas, toi aussi, des disciples de cet homme?» Il dit: «Je n'en suis point.»
18 Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.
Les serviteurs et les agents se tenaient autour d'un brasier qu'ils avaient allumé, parce qu'il faisait froid, et ils se chauffaient. Pierre était aussi là, et se chauffait avec eux.
19 The high priest therefore asked Yeshua about his disciples and about his teaching.
Le souverain sacrificateur interrogea Jésus sur ses disciples et sur sa doctrine.
20 Yeshua answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.
Jésus lui répondit: «J'ai parlé ouvertement à tout le monde; j'ai toujours enseigné en pleine synagogue et dans le temple, où tous les Juifs s'assemblent, et je n'ai rien dit en secret.
21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, they know the things which I said.”
Pourquoi m'interroges-tu? Demande à ceux qui m'ont entendu ce que je leur ai dit: ils savent ce que j'ai dit.»
22 When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Yeshua with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”
Comme il prononçait ces mots, un des agents, qui se trouvait-là, donna un soufflet à Jésus, en disant: «C'est ainsi que tu réponds au souverain sacrificateur?»
23 Yeshua answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”
Jésus lui répondit: «Si j'ai mal parlé, fais voir ce que j'ai dit de mal; mais si j'ai bien parlé, pourquoi me frappes-tu?»
24 Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
Anne l'avait envoyé lié à Caïphe, le souverain sacrificateur.
25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.”
Cependant Simon Pierre était debout qui se chauffait. On lui dit donc: «N'es-tu pas, toi aussi, de ses disciples?» Il le nia, et dit: «Je n'en suis point.»
26 One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”
Un des serviteurs du souverain sacrificateur, parent de celui à qui Pierre avait coupé l'oreille, lui dit: «Ne t'ai-je pas vu avec lui dans le jardin?»
27 Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.
Pierre le nia encore une fois, et aussitôt un coq chanta.
28 They led Yeshua therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
Les sénateurs menèrent donc Jésus de chez Caïphe au prétoire. C'était de grand matin. Ils n'entrèrent point dans le prétoire de peur de se souiller et de ne pouvoir manger la pâque.
29 Pilate therefore went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”
Pilate se rendit donc vers eux, et leur dit: «De quoi accusez-vous cet homme?»
30 They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”
Ils lui répondirent: «Si ce n'était pas un malfaiteur, nous ne te l'aurions pas livré.»
31 Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Judeans said to him, “It is illegal for us to put anyone to death,”
Alors Pilate leur dit: «Prenez-le vous-mêmes, et le jugez selon votre loi.» Mais les Juifs lui répondirent: «Nous n'avons pas le droit de mettre à mort personne.»
32 that the word of Yeshua might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
Cela arriva, afin que s'accomplît la parole que Jésus avait prononcée, quand il avait indiqué de quelle mort il devait mourir.
33 Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Yeshua, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
Pilate étant rentré dans le prétoire, fit venir Jésus et lui dit: «C'est toi qui es le roi des Juifs?»
34 Yeshua answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”
Jésus répondit: «Dis-tu cela de toi-même, ou d'autres te l'ont-ils dit de moi?»
35 Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”
— «Suis-je Juif, moi?» lui répliqua Pilate. «La nation et les principaux sacrificateurs t'ont livré à moi: qu'as-tu fait?»
36 Yeshua answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Judeans. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”
Jésus répondit: «Mon royaume n'est pas de ce monde. Si mon royaume était de ce monde, mes gens auraient combattu pour que je ne fusse pas livré aux Juifs, mais mon royaume n'est pas d'ici-bas.»
37 Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Yeshua answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
Pilate lui dit: «Ainsi tu es roi?» — «Tu le dis, répondit Jésus, je suis roi; je suis né, et je suis venu dans le monde pour rendre témoignage à la vérité. Quiconque est pour la vérité, écoute ma voix.»
38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Judeans, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.
Pilate lui dit: «Qu'est-ce que la vérité?» En disant ces mots, il se rendit de nouveau vers les Juifs, et leur dit: «Pour moi, je ne trouve aucun crime en lui;
39 But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore, do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
mais il est d'usage que je vous relâche un prisonnier à Pâque, voulez-vous donc que je vous relâche le roi des Juifs?»
40 Then they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
Alors tous crièrent de nouveau: «Non pas lui, mais Barrabas.» Or Barrabas était un brigand.
