Jacob 5
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you.
Wohlan nun, ihr Reichen, weinet und heulet über euer Elend, [O. eure Drangsale; das griech. Wort steht in der Mehrzahl] das über euch kommt!
2 Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten.
Euer Reichtum ist verfault, und eure Kleider sind mottenfressig geworden.
3 Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.
Euer Gold und Silber ist verrostet, und ihr Rost wird zum Zeugnis sein wider euch und euer Fleisch fressen wie Feuer; ihr habt Schätze gesammelt in den letzten Tagen.
4 Behold, the wages of the labourers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts.
Siehe, der Lohn der Arbeiter, die eure Felder geschnitten haben, der von euch vorenthalten ist, schreit, und das Geschrei der Schnitter ist vor [W. in] die Ohren des Herrn Zebaoth [d. i. Jehova der Heerscharen] gekommen.
5 You have lived in luxury on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
Ihr habt in Üppigkeit [O. Genußsucht] gelebt auf der Erde und geschwelgt; ihr habt eure Herzen gepflegt wie an einem Schlachttage.
6 You have condemned and you have murdered the righteous one. He doesn’t resist you.
Ihr habt verurteilt, ihr habt getötet den Gerechten; er widersteht euch nicht.
7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain.
Habt nun Geduld, [O. Ausharren; so auch v 8. 10.] Brüder, bis zur Ankunft des Herrn. Siehe, der Ackersmann wartet auf die köstliche Frucht der Erde und hat Geduld [O. Ausharren; so auch v 8. 10.] ihretwegen, bis sie den Früh- und Spätregen empfange.
8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
Habt auch ihr Geduld, befestiget eure Herzen, denn die Ankunft des Herrn ist nahe gekommen.
9 Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won’t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door.
Seufzet nicht widereinander, Brüder, auf daß ihr nicht gerichtet werdet. Siehe, der Richter steht vor der Tür.
10 Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
Nehmet, Brüder, zum Vorbild des Leidens und der Geduld die Propheten, die im Namen des Herrn geredet haben.
11 Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
Siehe, wir preisen die glückselig, welche ausgeharrt haben. Von dem Ausharren Hiobs habt ihr gehört, und das Ende des Herrn habt ihr gesehen, daß der Herr voll innigen Mitgefühls und barmherzig ist.
12 But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear—not by heaven, or by the earth, or by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes”, and your “no”, “no”, so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.
Vor allem aber, meine Brüder, schwöret nicht, weder bei dem Himmel, noch bei der Erde, noch mit irgend einem anderen Eide; es sei aber euer Ja ja, und euer Nein nein, auf daß ihr nicht unter Gericht fallet.
13 Is any amongst you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises.
Leidet jemand unter euch Trübsal? er bete. Ist jemand gutes Mutes? er singe Psalmen. [O. Loblieder]
14 Is any amongst you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
Ist jemand krank unter euch? er rufe die Ältesten der Versammlung zu sich, und sie mögen über ihn beten und ihn mit Öl salben [O. beten, nachdem sie ihn gesalbt haben] im Namen des Herrn.
15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Und das Gebet des Glaubens wird den Kranken heilen, [O. retten] und der Herr wird ihn aufrichten, und wenn er Sünden begangen hat, wird ihm vergeben werden.
16 Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.
Bekennet denn einander die Vergehungen und betet füreinander, damit ihr geheilt werdet; das inbrünstige Gebet [Eig. Flehen] eines Gerechten vermag viel.
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.
Elias war ein Mensch von gleichen Gemütsbewegungen [O. Empfindungen] wie wir; und er betete ernstlich, [W. mit Gebet] daß es nicht regnen möge, und es regnete nicht auf der Erde drei Jahre und sechs Monate.
18 He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
Und wiederum betete er, und der Himmel gab Regen, und die Erde brachte ihre Frucht hervor.
19 Brothers, if any amongst you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back,
Meine Brüder, wenn jemand unter euch von der Wahrheit abirrt, und es führt ihn jemand zurück,
20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
so wisse er, daß der, welcher einen Sünder von dem Irrtum seines Weges zurückführt, eine Seele vom Tode erretten und eine Menge von Sünden bedecken wird.
