< Jacob 3 >

1 Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgement.
Ẹ̀yin ará mi, ẹ má ṣe jẹ́ kí púpọ̀ nínú yín jẹ́ olùkọ́, kí ẹ̀yin kí ó mọ̀ pé àwa ni yóò jẹ̀bi jù.
2 For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.
3 Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body.
Bí a bá sì fi ìjánu bọ ẹṣin lẹ́nu, kí wọn kí ó le gbọ́ tiwa, gbogbo ara wọn ni àwa sì ń tì kiri pẹ̀lú.
4 Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.
Kíyèsi i, àwọn ọkọ̀ ojú omi pẹ̀lú, bí wọ́n ti tóbi tó nì, tí a sì ń ti ọwọ́ ẹ̀fúùfù líle gbá kiri, ìtọ́kọ̀ kékeré ni a fi ń darí wọn kiri, síbikíbi tí ó bá wu ẹni tí ó ń tọ́ ọkọ̀.
5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest!
Bẹ́ẹ̀ pẹ̀lú ni ahọ́n jẹ́ ẹ̀yà kékeré, ó sì ń fọhùn ohùn ńlá. Wo igi ńlá tí iná kékeré ń sun jóná!
6 And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity amongst our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehinnom. (Geenna g1067)
Iná sì ni ahọ́n, ayé ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ sì ni: ní àárín àwọn ẹ̀yà ara wa, ní ahọ́n ti ń bá gbogbo ara jẹ́, tí yóò sì ti iná bọ ipa ayé wa; ọ̀run àpáàdì a sì tiná bọ òun náà. (Geenna g1067)
7 For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind;
Nítorí olúkúlùkù ẹ̀dá ẹranko, àti ti ẹyẹ, àti ti ejò, àti ti ohun tí ó ń bẹ ní Òkun, ni à ń tù lójú, tí a sì ti tù lójú láti ọwọ́ ẹ̀dá ènìyàn wá.
8 but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
Ṣùgbọ́n ahọ́n ni ẹnikẹ́ni kò le tù lójú; ohun búburú aláìgbọ́ràn ni, ó kún fún oró ikú tí í pa ni.
9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God.
Òun ni àwa fi ń yin Olúwa àti Baba, òun ni a sì fi ń bú ènìyàn tí a dá ní àwòrán Ọlọ́run.
10 Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
Láti ẹnu kan náà ni ìyìn àti èébú ti ń jáde. Ẹ̀yin ará mi, nǹkan wọ̀nyí kò yẹ kí ó rí bẹ́ẹ̀.
11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?
Orísun odò kan a ha máa sun omi dídára àti omi iyọ̀ jáde láti orísun kan náà bí?
12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.
Ẹ̀yin ará mi, igi ọ̀pọ̀tọ́ ha le so èso olifi bí? Tàbí àjàrà ha lè so èso ọ̀pọ̀tọ́? Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni orísun kan kò le sun omíró àti omi tútù.
13 Who is wise and understanding amongst you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.
Ta ni ó gbọ́n tí ó sì ní ìmọ̀ nínú yín? Ẹ jẹ́ kí ó fi iṣẹ́ rẹ̀ hàn nípa ìwà rere, nípa ìwà tútù ti ọgbọ́n.
14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.
Ṣùgbọ́n bí ẹ̀yin bá ní owú kíkorò àti ìjà ní ọkàn yín, ẹ má ṣe ṣe féfé, ẹ má sì ṣèké sí òtítọ́.
15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
Ọgbọ́n yìí kì í ṣe èyí tí ó ti ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run wá, ṣùgbọ́n ti ayé ni, ti ara ni, ti ẹ̀mí èṣù ni.
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
Nítorí níbi tí owú òun ìjà bá gbé wà, níbẹ̀ ni rúdurùdu àti iṣẹ́ búburú gbogbo wà.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
Ṣùgbọ́n ọgbọ́n tí ó ti òkè wá jẹ́ mímọ́ ní àkọ́kọ́, ti àlàáfíà, àti ti ìrẹ̀lẹ̀, kì í sì í ṣòro láti bẹ̀, ó kún fún àánú àti fún èso rere, kì í ṣe ojúsàájú, a sì máa sọ òtítọ́.
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Àwọn tí ó ń ṣiṣẹ́ àlàáfíà a sì máa gbin èso àlàáfíà ní àlàáfíà.
