Daniel 4
1 Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.
রাজা নেবুখাদনেজার, সমস্ত পৃথিবীতে বসবাসকারী প্রত্যেক জাতি ও ভাষার মানুষের প্রতি: তোমাদের অনেক উন্নতি হোক!
2 It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked towards me.
পরাৎপর ঈশ্বর আমার জন্য যে অলৌকিক চিহ্ন ও আশ্চর্য কাজ করেছেন তা সব তোমাদের জানানো আমি উচিত মনে করছি।
3 How great are his signs! How mighty are his wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. His dominion is from generation to generation.
তাঁর চিহ্নসকল কত মহান,
4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.
আমি, নেবুখাদনেজার, পরিতৃপ্তি ও সমৃদ্ধিতে রাজপ্রাসাদে বাস করছিলাম।
5 I saw a dream which made me afraid; and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
কিন্তু একদিন এক স্বপ্ন দেখলাম যা আমাকে ভীত করল। যখন আমি বিছানায় শুয়ে ছিলাম, তখন যেসব চিন্তা ও দর্শন মনে এল তা আমাকে আতঙ্কিত করল।
6 Therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.
তাই আদেশ দিলাম যে এই স্বপ্নের মানে আমাকে ব্যাখ্যা করবার জন্য ব্যাবিলনের সমস্ত জ্ঞানীদের আমার সামনে হাজির করা হোক।
7 Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Kasdim, and the soothsayers came in; and I told them the dream, but they didn’t make known to me its interpretation.
যখন সব মন্ত্রবেত্তা, যাদুকর, জ্যোতিষী ও গণকেরা এসে হাজির হল, আমি স্বপ্নটি তাদের বললাম কিন্তু তারা কেউ এর মানে আমাকে ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারল না।
8 But at last, Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. I told the dream before him, saying,
অবশেষে, দানিয়েল আমার সামনে এল এবং আমি স্বপ্নটি তাকে বললাম। আমার দেবতার নামানুসারে তাকে বেল্টশৎসর বলা হত কারণ পুণ্য দেবতাদের আত্মা তার অন্তরে ছিল।
9 “Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.
আমি বললাম, “হে মন্ত্রবেত্তাদের প্রধান বেল্টশৎসর, আমি জানি পুণ্য দেবতাদের আত্মা তোমার অন্তরে আছে এবং কোনো রহস্যই তোমার অসাধ্য নয়। এই হল আমার স্বপ্ন; আমাকে এর মানে বুঝিয়ে দাও।
10 These were the visions of my head on my bed: I saw, and behold, a tree in the middle of the earth; and its height was great.
বিছানায় শুয়ে থাকা অবস্থায় আমি এসব দর্শন পেলাম: আমি তাকিয়ে দেখলাম, পৃথিবীর মাঝখানে আমার সামনে একটি গাছ, যা ছিল উচ্চতায় প্রকাণ্ড।
11 The tree grew and was strong. Its height reached to the sky and its sight to the end of all the earth.
গাছটি ক্রমাগত বেড়ে বৃহৎ ও শক্তিশালী হয়ে উঠল, উচ্চতায় আকাশ ছুঁল এবং পৃথিবীর সব প্রান্ত পর্যন্ত দৃশ্যমান হল।
12 Its leaves were beautiful, and it had much fruit, and in it was food for all. The animals of the field had shade under it, and the birds of the sky lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.
তার সুন্দর পাতা ছিল ও পর্যাপ্ত ফল ছিল এবং তার মধ্যে সকলের আহার ছিল। মাঠের বন্যপশুরা এই গাছের তলায় আশ্রয় খুঁজে পেল এবং পাখিরা ডালপালায় বাস করল; সকল প্রাণী এই গাছটি থেকে খাবার পেল।
13 “I saw in the visions of my head on my bed, and behold, a holy watcher came down from the sky.
“পরে আমি বিছানায় শুয়ে দর্শনে দেখলাম, আমার সামনে এক পবিত্র ব্যক্তি, এক দূত, যিনি স্বর্গ থেকে নেমে আসছিলেন।
14 He cried aloud and said this: ‘Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches! Shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit! Let the animals get away from under it and the birds from its branches.
তিনি জোর গলায় ঘোষণা করলেন: ‘গাছটি কেটে ফেলো ও তার ডালপালাগুলি ছেঁটে দাও, পাতাগুলি ঝেড়ে ফেলো এবং ফলগুলি ছড়িয়ে-ছিটিয়ে দাও। এই গাছের আশ্রয় থেকে পশুরা এবং ডালপালা থেকে পাখিরা পালিয়ে যাক।
15 Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of the sky. Let his portion be with the animals in the grass of the earth.
কিন্তু শুধু মূলকাণ্ড ও শিকড়, লোহা ও পিতলের শিকল দিয়ে বাঁধা অবস্থায়, মাটিতে পড়ে থাক; ও মাঠের ঘাসের মধ্যে পড়ে থাক। “‘সে আকাশের শিশিরে ভিজুক এবং পশুদের সঙ্গে পৃথিবীর গাছপালার মধ্যে তার বাসস্থান হোক।
16 Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let an animal’s heart be given to him. Then let seven times pass over him.
সাত কাল পর্যন্ত তার মানুষের মন নিয়ে তাকে পশুর মন দেওয়া হোক।
17 “‘The sentence is by the decree of the watchers and the demand by the word of the holy ones, to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of men.’
“‘এই সিদ্ধান্ত দূতদের মাধ্যমে ঘোষিত হল, পবিত্র ব্যক্তিগণ এই রায় ঘোষণা করলেন, যেন সব জীবিত মানুষ জানতে পারে যে পরাৎপর ঈশ্বর পৃথিবীর সব রাজ্যের উপর সার্বভৌম এবং যে ব্যক্তিকে চান তার হাতে তিনি সেই রাজত্বভার অর্পণ করেন এবং ঈশ্বর এই রাজ্যগুলি শাসনের জন্য বিনয়ী লোকেদের মনোনীত করেন।’
18 “This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and you, Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.”
“আমি, রাজা নেবুখাদনেজার এই স্বপ্নই দেখেছিলাম। এখন, বেল্টশৎসর, আমাকে এর মানে কি তা বুঝিয়ে বলো কেননা আমার রাজ্যের কোনো জ্ঞানী এর মানে আমাকে ব্যাখ্যা করতে পারে না। কিন্তু তুমি পারবে, কারণ পবিত্র দেবতাদের আত্মা তোমার মধ্যে উপস্থিত।”
19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, “Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream or the interpretation, trouble you.” Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries.
তখন দানিয়েল, যাকে বেল্টশৎসর বলা হত, কিছুক্ষণের জন্য খুব হতবুদ্ধি হয়ে রইল; স্বপ্নের মানে তাকে আতঙ্কিত করল। তাই রাজা বললেন, “বেল্টশৎসর, এই স্বপ্ন বা তার অর্থ যেন তোমাকে ভীত না করে।” বেল্টশৎসর উত্তর দিলেন, “হে আমার প্রভু, শুধু যদি এই স্বপ্ন আপনার পরিবর্তে আপনার শত্রুদের উপর বর্তাত ও এর অর্থ আপনার বিপক্ষের প্রতি ঘটত!
20 The tree that you saw, which grew and was strong, whose height reached to the sky and its sight to all the earth;
যে গাছটি আপনি দেখেছিলেন, যা বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছিল ও শক্তিশালী হয়েছিল, যার উচ্চতা আকাশ ছুঁয়েছিল, সমস্ত পৃথিবীতে দৃশ্যমান হয়ে উঠেছিল,
21 whose leaves were beautiful and its fruit plentiful, and in it was food for all; under which the animals of the field lived, and on whose branches the birds of the sky had their habitation—
যার পাতা সুন্দর ও প্রচুর ফল ছিল, সকলকে আহার দিয়েছিল, বন্যপশুদের আশ্রয় দিয়েছিল এবং যার ডালে পাখিরা বাসা বেঁধেছিল,
22 it is you, O king, that have grown and become strong; for your greatness has grown, and reaches to the sky, and your dominion to the end of the earth.
হে মহারাজ, আপনিই সেই গাছ! আপনি মহান এবং শক্তিশালী হয়েছেন; আপনার গৌরব বৃদ্ধি পেয়ে আকাশ ছুঁয়েছে এবং আপনার আধিপত্য পৃথিবীর দূরদূরান্ত পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত হয়েছে।
23 “Whereas the king saw a holy watcher coming down from the sky and saying, ‘Cut down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and bronze, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of the sky. Let his portion be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him.’
“হে মহারাজ আপনি এক পবিত্র ব্যক্তিকে দেখলেন, এক দূত, যিনি স্বর্গ থেকে নেমে আসছিলেন; তিনি বললেন, ‘গাছটি কেটে একেবারে নষ্ট করে দাও, শুধু মূল কাণ্ডটি রেখে দাও, লোহা ও পিতলের শিকল দিয়ে ওটাকে বেঁধে রাখো, ঘাসের মধ্যে থাক, আর শিকড় মাটিতে পড়ে থাক। সে আকাশের শিশিরে ভিজুক, বন্যপশুদের সঙ্গে বাস করুক, যতদিন না পর্যন্ত তার জন্য সাত কাল অতিক্রম হচ্ছে।’
24 “This is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which has come on my lord the king:
“হে মহারাজ, স্বপ্নের মানে এই এবং পরাৎপর ঈশ্বর আমার প্রভু মহারাজের বিরুদ্ধে এই আদেশ জারি করেছেন:
25 You will be driven from men and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You will be made to eat grass as oxen, and will be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.
মানুষের সমাজ থেকে আপনাকে তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হবে এবং আপনি বন্যপশুদের সঙ্গে বাস করবেন; বলদের মতো আপনি ঘাস খাবেন ও আকাশের শিশিরে ভিজবেন। সাত কাল পার হবে যতদিন না পর্যন্ত আপনি স্বীকার করবেন যে পরাৎপর ঈশ্বর পৃথিবীর সমস্ত রাজ্যের উপর সার্বভৌম এবং যাকে তাঁর খুশি তার হাতে তিনি রাজত্বভার অর্পণ করেন।
26 Whereas it was commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be sure to you after you know that Heaven rules.
আদেশ অনুযায়ী মূলকাণ্ড ও শিকড় অক্ষত রাখার অর্থ হল যে, আপনি যখন স্বর্গের কর্তৃত্বের কথা স্বীকার করবেন, তখন আপনার রাজত্ব আপনাকে ফিরিয়ে দেওয়া হবে।
27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquillity.”
অতএব, হে মহারাজ, আমার পরামর্শ গ্রহণ করুন: ন্যায় আচরণ করে পাপের জীবন পরিত্যাগ করুন ও পীড়িতদের প্রতি দয়া করে দুষ্ট জীবন বর্জন করুন। তাতে হয়তো আপনার সমৃদ্ধি বজায় থাকবে।”
28 All this came on the King Nebuchadnezzar.
এসবই রাজা নেবুখাদনেজারের জীবনে ঘটেছিল।
29 At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon.
বারো মাস পরে, রাজা যখন ব্যাবিলনের রাজপ্রাসাদের ছাদে হাঁটছিলেন,
30 The king spoke and said, “Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?”
তিনি বললেন, “এই কি সেই মহান ব্যাবিলন নয়, যা আমি আপন পরাক্রমে নিজের মহিমা প্রকাশের উদ্দেশে রাজকীয় ভবন রূপে গড়ে তুলেছি?”
31 While the word was in the king’s mouth, a voice came from the sky, saying, “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: ‘The kingdom has departed from you.
কথাগুলি যখন তার মুখেই ছিল, স্বর্গ থেকে এক কণ্ঠস্বর ভেসে এল, “তোমার জন্য এই আদেশ জারি করা হয়েছে, রাজা নেবুখাদনেজার, তোমার রাজকীয় কর্তৃত্ব তোমার কাছে থেকে কেড়ে নেওয়া হয়েছে।
32 You shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like oxen. Seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.’”
মানুষের সমাজ থেকে তোমাকে তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হবে এবং বন্যপশুদের সঙ্গে তুমি বাস করবে; তুমি বলদের মতো ঘাস খাবে। সাত কাল এভাবেই কেটে যাবে যতদিন না পর্যন্ত তুমি স্বীকার করবে যে পরাৎপর ঈশ্বর পৃথিবীর সমস্ত রাজ্যের উপর সার্বভৌম এবং যাকে তাঁর খুশি তার হাতে তিনি রাজত্বভার অর্পণ করেন।”
33 This was fulfilled the same hour on Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; and his body was wet with the dew of the sky until his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.
তৎক্ষণাৎ নেবুখাদনেজারের সম্বন্ধে যা বলা হয়েছিল তা পূর্ণ হল। মানুষের সমাজ থেকে তাকে তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হল এবং বলদের মতো সে ঘাস খেল। আকাশের নিচে তার সারা শরীর শিশিরে ভিজল যতদিন না পর্যন্ত তার চুল ঈগল পাখির পালকের মতো বেড়ে উঠল ও তার নখ পাখির নখের মতো হয়ে উঠল।
34 At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honoured him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.
সেই সময় শেষ হওয়ার পরে, আমি, নেবুখাদনেজার, স্বর্গের দিকে চোখ তুলে দেখলাম এবং আমার সুবুদ্ধি ফিরিয়ে দেওয়া হল; তখন আমি পরাৎপর ঈশ্বরের ধন্যবাদ করলাম; যিনি নিত্যস্থায়ী তাঁর প্রশংসা ও সমাদর করলাম।
35 All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and amongst the inhabitants of the earth; and no one can stop his hand, or ask him, “What are you doing?”
পৃথিবীর সব মানুষেরা
36 At the same time my understanding returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned to me. My counsellors and my lords sought me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added to me.
যে সময়ে আমার সুবুদ্ধি ফিরিয়ে দেওয়া হল, আমার রাজ্যের গৌরবার্থে, সেই সময়েই আমার সম্মান ও প্রতিপত্তিও আমাকে ফিরিয়ে দেওয়া হল। আমার উপদেষ্টা ও বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তি সকলে আমাকে খুঁজে বের করল। আমাকে রাজসিংহাসনে পুনরায় প্রতিষ্ঠিত করা হল এবং আমার মহিমা আগের তুলনায় অনেক বৃদ্ধি পেল।
37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honour the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.
এখন, আমি, নেবুখাদনেজার, স্বর্গের রাজার প্রশংসা, গৌরব ও সমাদর করি কারণ তিনি যা করেন তা সঠিক ও তাঁর সমস্ত পথ ন্যায্য। আর যারা অহংকারে জীবন কাটায় তাদের তিনি নম্র করতে সক্ষম।
