Acts 18
1 After these things Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth.
S'étant après cela éloigné d'Athènes, il vint à Corinthe,
2 He found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome. He came to them,
et y ayant trouvé un certain Juif, nommé Aquilas, originaire du Pont, récemment arrivé d'Italie avec Priscilla sa femme, à cause de l'injonction faite à tous les Juifs de quitter Rome, il s'associa à eux,
3 and because he practised the same trade, he lived with them and worked, for by trade they were tent makers.
et, comme ils exerçaient le même métier, il habita avec eux et ils travaillaient ensemble; ils étaient en effet faiseurs de tentes de leur métier.
4 He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded Jews and Greeks.
Cependant il discourait dans la synagogue chaque sabbat, et il persuadait Juifs et Grecs.
5 When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Yeshua was the Messiah.
Or, quand Silas et Timothée arrivèrent de Macédoine, Paul était tout occupé de la parole, et attestait aux Juifs que Jésus était le Christ,
6 When they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his clothing and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on, I will go to the Gentiles!”
mais comme ceux-ci lui résistaient et l'injuriaient, il secoua ses vêtements et leur dit: « Que votre sang retombe sur votre tête; pour moi j'en suis net; dès ce moment j'irai auprès des Gentils. »
7 He departed there and went into the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshipped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.
Et, sortant de là, il se rendit dans la maison d'un nommé Titius Justus, adorateur de Dieu, dont la maison était contiguë à la synagogue.
8 Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house. Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were immersed.
Cependant Crispus, le chef de la synagogue, crut au seigneur avec toute sa famille; et plusieurs Corinthiens qui aimaient l'entendre croyaient et recevaient le baptême.
9 The Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, “Don’t be afraid, but speak and don’t be silent;
Or le Seigneur, dans une vision nocturne, dit à Paul: « Ne crains point, mais parle et ne te tais point,
10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city.”
parce que je suis avec toi, et que personne ne se jettera sur toi pour te maltraiter, car je possède un peuple nombreux dans cette ville-ci. »
11 He lived there a year and six months, teaching the word of God amongst them.
Et il fit un séjour d'un an et six mois en enseignant parmi eux la parole de Dieu.
12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgement seat,
Or, pendant que Gallion était proconsul de l'Achaïe, les Juifs se soulevèrent unanimement contre Paul, et ils l'amenèrent devant le tribunal,
13 saying, “This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”
en disant: « Celui-ci persuade les hommes d'adorer Dieu contrairement à la loi. »
14 But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked crime, you Jews, it would be reasonable that I should bear with you;
Mais, au moment où Paul allait ouvrir la bouche, Gallion dit aux Juifs: « S'il s'agissait d'un crime ou d'un délit, ô Juifs, j'aurais naturellement accueilli votre plainte,
15 but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves. For I don’t want to be a judge of these matters.”
mais, puisqu'il s'agit de questions relatives à une doctrine, à des noms propres, et à votre loi, vous aviserez vous-mêmes; pour moi, je ne veux pas me constituer juge de ces choses-là. »
16 So he drove them from the judgement seat.
Et il les chassa du tribunal.
17 Then all the Greeks seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgement seat. Gallio didn’t care about any of these things.
Mais, s'étant tous saisis de Sosthène le chef de la synagogue, ils le frappaient devant le tribunal; et de tout cela Gallion ne prenait aucun souci.
18 Paul, having stayed after this many more days, took his leave of the brothers, and sailed from there for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.
Cependant Paul, après avoir encore fait un long séjour, prit congé des frères, et s'embarqua pour la Syrie, et avec lui Priscilla et Aquilas, après s'être fait raser la tête à Cenchrées, car il avait fait un vœu.
19 He came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
Or, quand ils furent arrivés à Éphèse, il les y laissa, tandis qu'étant entré lui-même dans la synagogue, il discuta avec les Juifs,
20 When they asked him to stay with them a longer time, he declined;
et, comme ils lui demandaient de prolonger son séjour, il n'y consentit pas,
21 but taking his leave of them, he said, “I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem, but I will return again to you if God wills.” Then he set sail from Ephesus.
mais, après avoir pris congé d'eux en disant: « Je reviendrai derechef auprès de vous, si Dieu le veut, » il partit d'Éphèse,
22 When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the assembly, and went down to Antioch.
et, étant débarqué à Césarée, il monta saluer l'église et redescendit ensuite à Antioche.
23 Having spent some time there, he departed and went through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples.
Au bout d'un certain temps, il partit, et parcourut successivement le pays de Galatie et la Phrygie, fortifiant tous les disciples.
24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures.
Cependant un Juif, nommé Apollos, originaire d'Alexandrie, homme éloquent et très versé dans les Écritures, arriva à Éphèse.
25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Yeshua, although he knew only the immersion of Yochanan.
Il avait été instruit de la doctrine du seigneur, et était d'un esprit plein de ferveur; aussi prêchait-il et enseignait-il exactement ce qui concernait Jésus, quoiqu'il ne connût que le baptême de Jésus,
26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.
et il se mit à parler librement dans la synagogue. Mais Priscilla et Aquilas l'ayant entendu le prirent avec eux et lui exposèrent plus exactement la doctrine de Dieu.
27 When he had determined to pass over into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him; and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he had come, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace;
Cependant, comme il voulait passer en Achaïe, les frères, après l'y avoir encouragé, écrivirent aux disciples de lui faire un bon accueil. Une fois arrivé il se rendit très utile par la grâce de Dieu à ceux qui avaient cru,
28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews, publicly showing by the Scriptures that Yeshua was the Messiah.
car il réfutait vigoureusement les Juifs en public, en démontrant par les Écritures que Jésus était le Christ.
