Acts 17
1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue.
Sie kamen aber auf dem Wege über Amphipolis und Apollonia nach Thessalonike, wo die Juden eine Synagoge hatten.
2 Paul, as was his custom, went in to them; and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
Nach seiner Gewohnheit aber trat Paulus bei ihnen ein, und redete an drei Sabbaten zu ihnen auf Grund der Schrift,
3 explaining and demonstrating that the Messiah had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Yeshua, whom I proclaim to you, is the Messiah.”
indem er sie ihnen aufschloß, und darlegte, daß der Christus leiden und von den Toten auferstehen mußte, und daß dieser der Christus sei, Jesus, “den ich euch verkünde”.
4 Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas: of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and not a few of the chief women.
Und etliche von ihnen ließen sich gewinnen, und schlossen sich dem Paulus und Silas an, ebenso eine große Menge von den Griechen, die zur Gottesfurcht hielten, und nicht wenige von den ersten Frauen.
5 But the unpersuaded Jews took along some wicked men from the marketplace and gathering a crowd, set the city in an uproar. Assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them out to the people.
Die Juden aber wurden eifersüchtig; sie gewannen einige schlechte Subjekte, Pflastertreter, erregten einen Auflauf, und brachten die Stadt in Unruhe; und sie bedrängten das Haus Jasons, und suchten sie herauszubringen vor die Volksversammlung;
6 When they didn’t find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city, crying, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here also,
da sie sie aber nicht fanden, schleiften sie den Jason und etliche Brüder zu den Stadtvorstehern, und schrien: die Leute, welche das Reich aufwiegeln, sind jetzt auch hier,
7 whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Yeshua!”
Jason hat sie aufgenommen; und alle diese handeln gegen des Kaisers Ordnung, indem sie einen Andern König heißen, nämlich einen gewissen Jesus.
8 The multitude and the rulers of the city were troubled when they heard these things.
Mit diesen Reden aber brachten sie das Volk in Unruhe, und die Stadtvorsteher;
9 When they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.
und man ließ sich von Jason und den übrigen Caution stellen, und gab sie darauf frei.
10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea. When they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue.
Die Brüder aber beförderten sogleich den Paulus und den Silas bei nach Beröa, wo sie nach ihrem Eintreffen sich in die Synagoge der Juden begaben.
11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
Diese aber waren anständiger als die in Thessalonike, sie nahmen das Wort mit aller Bereitwilligkeit auf, und forschten alle Tage in den Schriften, ob es sich so verhalte.
12 Many of them therefore believed; also of the prominent Greek women, and not a few men.
Viele von ihnen nun wurden gläubig, so auch von den vornehmen griechischen Frauen und Männern nicht wenige.
13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed by Paul at Beroea also, they came there likewise, agitating the multitudes.
Wie aber die Juden von Thessalonike erfuhren, daß das Wort Gottes von Paulus auch in Beröa verkündet ward, kamen sie auch dahin, um die Massen aufzuwiegeln und zu verhetzen.
14 Then the brothers immediately sent out Paul to go as far as to the sea, and Silas and Timothy still stayed there.
Hierauf beförderten die Brüder den Paulus sogleich bis an die See; Silas aber und Timotheus blieben daselbst zurück.
15 But those who escorted Paul brought him as far as Athens. Receiving a commandment to Silas and Timothy that they should come to him very quickly, they departed.
Die Geleitsmänner des Paulus aber brachten ihn nach Athen, und kehrten mit dem Auftrag an Silas und Timotheus, daß sie so schnell als möglich zu ihm kommen sollen, zurück.
16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw the city full of idols.
Während aber Paulus dieselben in Athen erwartete, ward sein Geist innerlich aufgeregt, da er schaute, wie die Stadt voll von Götzenbildern war.
17 So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who met him.
So redete er denn in der Synagoge zu den Juden und denen die zur Gottesfurcht hielten, und auf dem Markte alle Tage zu den Leuten, wie sie ihm aufstießen.
18 Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also were conversing with him. Some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign deities,” because he preached Yeshua and the resurrection.
Es banden aber auch etliche von den epikureischen und stoischen Philosophen mit ihm an, und einige sagten: was will denn dieser Schwätzer sagen? andere aber: er scheint ein Verkünder fremder Götter zu sein; weil er nämlich den Jesus und die Auferstehung verkündete.
19 They took hold of him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is, which you are speaking about?
Und sie griffen ihn, und führten ihn zum Areopag, und sagten: dürfen wir wissen, was das für eine neue Lehre ist, die du vorträgst?
20 For you bring certain strange things to our ears. We want to know therefore what these things mean.”
Du gibst uns ja seltsame Dinge zu hören; so möchten wir nun erfahren, was das hießen will.
21 Now all the Athenians and the strangers living there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.
Alle Athener aber und die Fremden, die sich da aufhielten, waren stets zu nichts anderem so aufgelegt, als wie etwas neues zu reden oder zu hören.
22 Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus and said, “You men of Athens, I perceive that you are very religious in all things.
Paulus aber stellte sich mitten in den Areopag, und sprach: ihr Männer von Athen, ich finde durchweg wie ihr gar sehr auf Gottesfurcht aus seid.
23 For as I passed along and observed the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription: ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ What therefore you worship in ignorance, I announce to you.
Denn da ich herumgieng und mir eure Heiligtümer betrachtete, fand ich auch einen Altar mit der Inschrift: einem unbekannten Gott. Nun, was ihr ohne es zu kennen verehrt, das verkündige ich euch.
24 The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands.
Der Gott, der die Welt gemacht hat und alles was darin ist, er als Herr des Himmels und der Erde wohnt nicht in Tempeln mit Händen gemacht,
25 He isn’t served by men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath and all things.
noch läßt er sich von Menschenhänden bedienen, als ob er eines bedürfte, er der allen Leben und Odem und alles gibt.
26 He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons and the boundaries of their dwellings,
Und er hat gemacht, daß von einem her alle menschlichen Völker wohnen auf der ganzen Erdoberfläche, und hat vorausbestimmte Zeiten und die Grenzen ihre Wohnsitzes angeordnet,
27 that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
daß sie Gott suchen sollen, ob sie ihn etwa fühlen und finden möchten, der ja nicht ferne ist von einem jeden von uns.
28 ‘For in him we live, move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’
Denn in ihm leben und weben und sind wir, wie auch einige von euren Dichtern gesagt haben: des Geschlecht wir auch sind.
29 Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by art and design of man.
Sind wir nun Gottes Geschlecht, so dürfen wir nicht meinen, die Gottheit sei gleich Gold oder Silber oder Stein, gleich einem Gebilde menschlicher Kunst und Erfindung.
30 The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent,
So hat denn wohl Gott die Zeiten der Unwissenheit übersehen; nunmehr aber läßt er allen Menschen allenthalben ansagen, Buße zu thun,
31 because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.”
wie er denn einen Tag festgestellt hat, da er die Welt richten will in Gerechtigkeit durch einen Mann, den er dafür bestimmt hat, nachdem er jedermann den Glauben eröffnet hat, indem er ihn von den Toten erweckte.
32 Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, “We want to hear you again concerning this.”
Da sie aber von der Totenauferstehung hörten, spotteten die einen, die andern aber sagten: wir wollen dich darüber ein andermal wieder hören.
33 Thus Paul went out from amongst them.
Auf diese Weise kam Paulus los von ihnen.
34 But certain men joined with him and believed, including Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
Etliche Männer aber schlossen sich ihm an und wurden gläubig, darunter auch Dionysius ein Areopagite, auch eine Frau mit Namen Damaris, und noch andere mit ihnen.
