2 Peter 3
1 This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you
Esta es ahora, amados, la segunda carta que os he escrito; y en ambas os despierto la mente sincera recordándoos
2 that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and the commandment of us, the emissaries of the Lord and Saviour,
que debéis recordar las palabras que fueron dichas antes por los santos profetas y el mandamiento de nosotros, los apóstoles del Señor y Salvador,
3 knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts
sabiendo esto primero, que en los últimos días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias concupiscencias
4 and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
y diciendo: “¿Dónde está la promesa de su venida? Porque, desde el día en que los padres se durmieron, todas las cosas siguen como al principio de la creación”.
5 For they wilfully forget that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water by the word of God,
Porque olvidan voluntariamente que hubo cielos desde la antigüedad, y una tierra formada de agua y en medio del agua por la palabra de Dios,
6 by which means the world that existed then, being overflowed with water, perished.
por lo cual el mundo que entonces existía, al ser desbordado por el agua, pereció.
7 But the heavens that exist now and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgement and destruction of ungodly men.
Pero los cielos que existen ahora y la tierra, por la misma palabra han sido guardados para el fuego, siendo reservados para el día del juicio y de la destrucción de los hombres impíos.
8 But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
Pero no olvidéis esto, amados, que un día es para el Señor como mil años, y mil años como un día.
9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
El Señor no es lento en cuanto a su promesa, como algunos consideran la lentitud, sino que es paciente con nosotros, no queriendo que nadie perezca, sino que todos lleguen al arrepentimiento.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat; and the earth and the works that are in it will be burnt up.
Pero el día del Señor vendrá como un ladrón en la noche, en el cual los cielos pasarán con gran estruendo, y los elementos se disolverán con ardor; y la tierra y las obras que hay en ella serán quemadas.
11 Therefore, since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
Por lo tanto, ya que todas estas cosas serán destruidas de esta manera, ¿qué clase de personas debéis ser en la vida santa y en la piedad,
12 looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
esperando y deseando fervientemente la llegada del día de Dios, que hará que los cielos ardientes se disuelvan, y los elementos se derritan con calor ardiente?
13 But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
Pero, según su promesa, esperamos unos cielos nuevos y una tierra nueva, en los que habite la justicia.
14 Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.
Por lo tanto, amados, ya que buscáis estas cosas, procurad ser hallados en paz, sin defecto e irreprochables ante él.
15 Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you,
Considerad la paciencia de nuestro Señor como la salvación; así como también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le fue dada, os escribió,
16 as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
como también en todas sus cartas, hablando en ellas de estas cosas. En ellas hay algunas cosas difíciles de entender, que los ignorantes e inestables tuercen, como también lo hacen con las otras Escrituras, para su propia destrucción.
17 You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.
Vosotros, pues, amados, conociendo de antemano estas cosas, tened cuidado, no sea que arrastrados por el error de los impíos, caigáis de vuestra propia firmeza.
