2 Kings 7
1 Elisha said, “Hear the LORD’s word. The LORD says, ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.’”
Elisée dit: « Ecoutez la parole de Yahweh: Ainsi dit Yahweh: Demain, à cette heure, on aura une mesure de fleur de farine pour un sicle, et deux mesures d’orge pour un sicle, à la porte de Samarie. »
2 Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, “Behold, if the LORD made windows in heaven, could this thing be?” He said, “Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but will not eat of it.”
L’officier sur la main duquel s’appuyait le roi répondit à l’homme de Dieu et dit: « Quand Yahweh ferait des fenêtres au ciel, cela pourrait-il arriver? » Elisée dit: « Voici que tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n’en mangeras point. »
3 Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate. They said to one another, “Why do we sit here until we die?
Il y avait à l’entrée de la porte quatre lépreux, qui se dirent l’un à l’autre: « Pourquoi resterions-nous ici jusqu’à ce que nous mourrions?
4 If we say, ‘We will enter into the city,’ then the famine is in the city, and we will die there. If we sit still here, we also die. Now therefore come, and let’s surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they save us alive, we will live; and if they kill us, we will only die.”
Si nous prenons le parti d’entrer dans la ville, la famine est dans la ville, et nous y mourrons; si nous restons ici, nous mourrons également. Venez donc et jetons-nous dans le camp des Syriens; s’ils nous laissent la vie, nous vivrons, et s’ils nous font mourir, nous mourrons. »
5 They rose up in the twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians. When they had come to the outermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, no man was there.
Ils se levèrent au crépuscule pour se rendre au camp des Syriens, et ils arrivèrent à l’entrée du camp des Syriens, et voici qu’il n’y avait personne.
6 For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians to hear the sound of chariots and the sound of horses, even the noise of a great army; and they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us.”
Le Seigneur avait fait entendre dans le camp des Syriens un bruit de chars et un bruit de chevaux, le bruit d’une grande armée, et ils s’étaient dit l’un à l’autre: « Voici que le roi d’Israël a pris à sa solde contre nous les rois des Hittites et les rois des Egyptiens pour venir nous attaquer ».
7 Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
Et, se levant, ils avaient pris la fuite au crépuscule, abandonnant leurs tentes, leurs chevaux et leurs ânes, le camp tel qu’il était, et ils s’étaient enfuis pour sauver leur vie.
8 When these lepers came to the outermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and ate and drank, then carried away silver, gold, and clothing and went and hid it. Then they came back, and entered into another tent and carried things from there also, and went and hid them.
Les lépreux, arrivés à l’entrée du camp, pénétrèrent dans une tente, et, après avoir bu et mangé, ils en emportèrent de l’argent, de l’or et des vêtements qu’ils allèrent cacher. Ils revinrent, pénétrèrent dans une autre tente et en emportèrent des objets qu’ils allèrent cacher de la même manière.
9 Then they said to one another, “We aren’t doing right. Today is a day of good news, and we keep silent. If we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let’s go and tell the king’s household.”
Alors ils se dirent l’un à l’autre: « Nous n’agissons pas bien. Ce jour est un jour de bonne nouvelle; si nous gardons le silence et si nous attendons jusqu’à la lumière du matin, nous trouverons le châtiment. Venez donc et allons informer la maison du roi. »
10 So they came and called to the city gatekeepers; and they told them, “We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, not even a man’s voice, but the horses tied, and the donkeys tied, and the tents as they were.”
Ils partirent et, ayant appelé les gardes de la porte de la ville, ils leur firent ce rapport: « Nous sommes entrés dans le camp des Syriens, et voici qu’il n’y a personne, ni aucune voix d’homme; il n’y a que des chevaux attachés, des ânes attachés, et les tentes comme elles étaient. »
11 Then the gatekeepers called out and told it to the king’s household within.
Les gardes de la porte poussèrent des cris et portèrent la nouvelle à l’intérieur de la maison du roi.
12 The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, “I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.’”
Le roi se leva de nuit, et il dit à ses serviteurs: « Je veux vous apprendre ce que nous font les Syriens. Sachant que nous sommes affamés, ils ont quitté leur camp pour se cacher dans les champs, et ils se sont dit: Quand ils sortiront de la ville, nous les saisirons vivants, et nous entrerons dans la ville. »
13 One of his servants answered, “Please let some people take five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are consumed. Let’s send and see.”
L’un de ses serviteurs prit la parole et dit: « Que l’on prenne cinq des chevaux survivants qui restent encore dans la ville, — voici qu’ils sont comme toute la multitude d’Israël qui y est restée, voici qu’ils sont comme toute la multitude d’Israël qui se meurt, — et nous enverrons voir. »
14 Therefore they took two chariots with horses; and the king sent them out to the Syrian army, saying, “Go and see.”
On prit deux chars avec les chevaux, et le roi envoya des hommes sur les traces de l’armée des Syriens, en disant: « Allez et voyez. »
15 They went after them to the Jordan; and behold, all the path was full of garments and equipment which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. The messengers returned and told the king.
Ils Allèrent après eux jusqu’au Jourdain, et voici que toute la route était couverte de vêtements et d’objets que les Syriens avaient jetés, dans leur précipitation. A leur retour, les messagers rapportèrent tout au roi.
16 The people went out and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the LORD’s word.
Aussitôt le peuple sortit et pilla le camp des Syriens, et l’on eut une mesure de fleur de farine pour un sicle, et deux mesures d’orge pour un sicle, selon la parole de Yahweh.
17 The king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to be in charge of the gate; and the people trampled over him in the gate, and he died as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.
Le roi avait confié la garde de la porte à l’officier sur la main duquel il s’appuyait; mais cet officier y fut foulé aux pieds par le peuple, et il mourut, selon la parole qu’avait dite l’homme de Dieu quand le roi était descendu vers lui.
18 It happened as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, “Two seahs of barley for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria;”
En effet, quand l’homme de Dieu avait parlé au roi en disant: « On aura deux mesures d’orge pour un sicle et une mesure de fleur de farine pour un sicle, demain, à cette heure, à la porte de Samarie, »
19 and that captain answered the man of God, and said, “Now, behold, if the LORD made windows in heaven, might such a thing be?” and he said, “Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but will not eat of it.”
l’officier avait répondu à l’homme de Dieu et dit: « Quand Yahweh ferait des fenêtres au ciel, cela pourrait-il arriver? » Et Elisée avait dit: « Voici que tu le verras de tes yeux, mais tu n’en mangeras point. »
20 It happened like that to him, for the people trampled over him in the gate, and he died.
Et c’est ce qui lui arriva: le peuple le foula aux pieds à la porte, et il mourut.
