2 Chronicles 32
1 After these things and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, entered into Judah, encamped against the fortified cities, and intended to win them for himself.
Después de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, llegó e invadió Judá. Sitió las ciudades fortificadas y se propuso dominarlas.
2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was planning to fight against Jerusalem,
Al ver Ezequías que Senaquerib llegó con intención de combatir contra Jerusalén,
3 he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city, and they helped him.
resolvió con sus jefes y sus valientes cegar los manantiales que estaban fuera de la ciudad, y ellos lo apoyaron.
4 Then many people gathered together and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the middle of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find abundant water?”
Mucho pueblo se juntó y cegaron todos los manantiales, y también el arroyo que fluía a través del territorio, pues dijeron: ¿Por qué los reyes de Asiria deben hallar agua cuando vengan?
5 He took courage, built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, with the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in David’s city, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
Ezequías se animó, reconstruyó todo el muro que estaba derribado y levantó torres sobre él. Levantó otro muro por fuera, fortificó el terraplén de la Ciudad de David e hizo muchas espadas y escudos.
6 He set captains of war over the people, gathered them together to him in the wide place at the gate of the city, and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,
Designó jefes sobre el pueblo. Los reunió ante él en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad y les habló al corazón:
7 “Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him.
¡Esfuércense y sean valientes! No teman ni desmayen a causa del rey de Asiria y de la multitud que está con él, porque más son los que están con nosotros que los que están con él.
8 An arm of flesh is with him, but the LORD our God is with us to help us and to fight our battles.” The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Con él está un brazo de carne, pero con nosotros está Yavé nuestro ʼElohim para ayudarnos y pelear nuestras batallas. Y el pueblo tuvo confianza en las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.
9 After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was attacking Lachish, and all his forces were with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,
Después de esto, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, quien había sitiado Laquis con todas sus fuerzas, envió a sus esclavos a Jerusalén, a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén, y dijeron:
10 Sennacherib king of Assyria says, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?
Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, dice: ¿En qué confían ustedes quienes se quedan sitiados en Jerusalén?
11 Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘The LORD our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria’?
¿No los engaña Ezequías para entregarlos a morir de hambre y de sed, al decir: Yavé nuestro ʼElohim nos librará de mano del rey de Asiria?
12 Hasn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and you shall burn incense on it’?
¿No es este Ezequías el mismo que quitó sus lugares altos y sus altares, y ordenó a Judá y a Jerusalén: Ante este único altar se postrarán, y sobre él quemarán incienso?
13 Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?
¿No saben lo que yo y mis antepasados hicimos a todos los pueblos de la tierra? ¿Pudieron los ʼelohim de naciones librar su tierra de mi mano?
14 Who was there amongst all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?
¿Cuál de todos los ʼelohim de las naciones que mis antepasados destruyeron completamente, pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano, para que su ʼElohim pueda librarlos a ustedes de mi mano?
15 Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you nor persuade you in this way. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”
Ahora pues, no los engañe Ezequías ni los persuada de esta manera, ni le crean porque ningún ʼelohim de todas aquellas naciones o reinos pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano, ni de la mano de mis antepasados. ¡Cuánto menos su ʼElohim podrá librarlos de mi mano!
16 His servants spoke yet more against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah.
Sus esclavos hablaron muchas otras cosas contra Yavé ʼElohim y su esclavo Ezequías.
17 He also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”
También escribió cartas en las cuales blasfemaba contra Yavé, ʼElohim de Israel, y hablaba contra Él de este modo: Así como los ʼelohim de otras naciones no libraron a sus pueblos de mi mano, tampoco el ʼElohim de Ezequías librará a su pueblo de mi mano.
18 They called out with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them, that they might take the city.
Clamaban a gran voz en la lengua de Judá al pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba en el muro, para intimidarlos y aterrorizarlos a fin de tomar la ciudad.
19 They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.
Hablaron del ʼElohim de Jerusalén como de los que son ʼelohim de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.
20 Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.
Pero el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, oraron acerca de esto y clamaron al cielo.
21 The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valour, the leaders, and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came out of his own body killed him there with the sword.
Yavé envió un ángel, el cual hirió a todos los guerreros esforzados, oficiales y jefes en el campamento del rey de Asiria, quien regresó a su tierra avergonzado. Cuando entraba en el templo de su ʼelohim, algunos de sus propios hijos lo mataron allí a espada.
22 Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
De este modo Yavé salvó a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de la mano de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de la mano de todos. Los guió por todos lados.
23 Many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from then on.
Muchos llevaron ofrendas para Yavé a Jerusalén y magníficos presentes para Ezequías, rey de Judá. A partir de ese tiempo su nombre fue exaltado ante todas las naciones.
24 In those days Hezekiah was terminally ill, and he prayed to the LORD; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.
En aquellos días Ezequías enfermó de muerte, pero oró a Yavé. Él le respondió y le dio una señal.
25 But Hezekiah didn’t reciprocate appropriate to the benefit done for him, because his heart was lifted up. Therefore there was wrath on him, Judah, and Jerusalem.
Pero Ezequías no correspondió al bien que recibió. Más bien su corazón se enalteció, y la ira [de ]Yavé llegó sobre él, sobre Judá y Jerusalén.
26 However, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the LORD’s wrath didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.
Sin embargo Ezequías se humilló junto con los habitantes de Jerusalén, de modo que la ira de Yavé no recayó sobre ellos en los días de Ezequías.
27 Hezekiah had exceedingly great riches and honour. He provided himself with treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of valuable vessels;
Ezequías tuvo muchas riquezas y esplendor. Acumuló grandes tesoros de plata, oro, piedras preciosas, perfumes, escudos y toda clase de joyas deseables.
28 also storehouses for the increase of grain, new wine, and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.
Hizo almacenes para el grano, el mosto y el aceite, establos para toda clase de bestias y apriscos para los rebaños.
29 Moreover he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him abundant possessions.
También adquirió ciudades, pues tenía numerosos rebaños de ovejas y hatos de ganado vacuno en abundancia, porque ʼElohim le dio muchas riquezas.
30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of David’s city. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
El mismo Ezequías cegó la salida superior de las aguas del Gihón y las dirigió hacia el occidente de la Ciudad de David. Y Ezequías prosperó en todo lo que hizo.
31 However, concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him to test him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
Sin embargo, en el asunto de los embajadores de los gobernantes de Babilonia que fueron enviados a él para investigar el prodigio que aconteció en el país, ʼElohim lo dejó para probarlo, a fin de conocer todo lo que había en su corazón.
32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
Los demás hechos de Ezequías y sus obras piadosas ciertamente están escritos en la visión del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, en el rollo de los Reyes de Judá y de Israel.
33 Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent to the tombs of the sons of David. All Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem honoured him at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
Ezequías reposó con sus antepasados, y lo sepultaron en el sector superior de los sepulcros de los descendientes de David. Todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén le rindieron honores en su muerte. Su hijo Manasés reinó en su lugar.
