1 Samuel 28
1 In those days, the Philistines gathered their armies together for warfare, to fight with Israel. Achish said to David, “Know assuredly that you will go out with me in the army, you and your men.”
Et dans le même temps les Philistins rassemblèrent leurs troupes pour entrer en campagne, porter la guerre en Israël. Et Achis dit à David: Tu sais bien que tu dois faire la campagne dans mon corps, toi et tes hommes.
2 David said to Achish, “Therefore you will know what your servant can do.” Achish said to David, “Therefore I will make you my bodyguard forever.”
Et David dit à Achis: Aussi tu verras comment ton serviteur se comportera. Et Achis dit à David: Aussi je te donnerai en permanence la garde de ma personne.
3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. Saul had sent away those who had familiar spirits and the wizards out of the land.
(Or Samuel était mort et tout Israël avait célébré son deuil et on lui avait donné la sépulture à Rama, dans sa cité. Et Saül avait éloigné du pays les nécromanciens et les divinateurs).
4 The Philistines gathered themselves together, and came and encamped in Shunem; and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they encamped in Gilboa.
Les Philistins se rassemblèrent donc et ils vinrent camper à Sunem. Et Saül rassembla tous les Israélites, et ils campèrent sur Gilboa.
5 When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.
Et à la vue du camp des Philistins, Saül eut peur, et son cœur fut fort alarmé.
6 When Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD didn’t answer him by dreams, by Urim, or by prophets.
Et Saül interrogea l'Éternel, mais l'Éternel ne lui répondit point, ni par des songes, ni par l'Urim, ni par les prophètes.
7 Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek for me a woman who has a familiar spirit, that I may go to her and enquire of her.” His servants said to him, “Behold, there is a woman who has a familiar spirit at Endor.”
Alors Saül dit à ses serviteurs: Cherchez-moi une femme qui possède la nécromancie, et j'irai chez elle et la consulterai. Et ses serviteurs lui dirent: Voici, à Endor il y a une femme qui possède la nécromancie.
8 Saul disguised himself and put on other clothing, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night. Then he said, “Please consult for me by the familiar spirit, and bring me up whomever I shall name to you.”
Et Saül se travestit, et mit d'autres habits et partit accompagné de deux hommes, et ils arrivèrent chez la femme de nuit, et il dit: Opère pour moi une divination par la nécromancie, et évoque-moi celui que je te dirai.
9 The woman said to him, “Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who have familiar spirits and the wizards out of the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?”
Et la femme lui dit: Voici, tu sais ce qu'a fait Saül, comment il a extirpé du pays les nécromanciens et les divinateurs; et pourquoi tends-tu un piège pour attirer sur moi la peine de mort?
10 Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, “As the LORD lives, no punishment will happen to you for this thing.”
Alors Saül lui fit serment par l'Éternel en ces termes: Par la vie de l'Éternel, tu n'encourras aucune culpabilité dans ce cas-ci.
11 Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up to you?” He said, “Bring Samuel up for me.”
Et la femme dit: Qui te ferais-je apparaître? Et il dit: Evoque-moi Samuel.
12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice; and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, “Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul!”
Et à l'aspect de Samuel elle jeta un grand cri, et s'adressant à Saül elle dit: Pourquoi m'as-tu trompée? tu es Saül.
13 The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid! What do you see?” The woman said to Saul, “I see a god coming up out of the earth.”
Et le Roi lui dit: Sois sans crainte! mais que vois-tu? Et la femme dit à Saül: Je vois surgir de terre un dieu.
14 He said to her, “What does he look like?” She said, “An old man comes up. He is covered with a robe.” Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and showed respect.
Et il lui dit: Quelle figure est la sienne? Et elle dit: C'est un vieillard qui surgit, et il est enveloppé d'un manteau. Alors Saül comprit que c'était Samuel, et il s'inclina le visage contre terre.
15 Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me, to bring me up?” Saul answered, “I am very distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me, and answers me no more, by prophets, or by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I shall do.”
Et Samuel dit à Saül: Pourquoi as-tu troublé mon repos en m'évoquant? Et Saül dit: Je suis dans une grande détresse, car les Philistins m'attaquent, et Dieu s'est retiré de moi et ne me répond plus, ni par l'organe des prophètes, ni par des songes, c'est pourquoi je t'ai fait évoquer afin que tu m'apprennes ce que je dois faire.
16 Samuel said, “Why then do you ask me, since the LORD has departed from you and has become your adversary?
Et Samuel dit: Et pourquoi m'interroges-tu, puisque l'Éternel s'est retiré de toi et t'est devenu hostile?
17 The LORD has done to you as he spoke by me. The LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbour, even to David.
Et l'Éternel a agi, comme Il l'avait annoncé par moi, et l'Éternel a arraché la royauté de ta main, et l'a transférée à ton prochain, à David.
18 Because you didn’t obey the LORD’s voice, and didn’t execute his fierce wrath on Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you today.
Comme tu n'as pas été docile à la voix de l'Éternel, et n'as pas fait subir à Amalek le feu de Ses vengeances, c'est pourquoi l'Éternel te traite en cette sorte aujourd'hui.
19 Moreover the LORD will deliver Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The LORD will deliver the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines.”
Et l'Éternel livrera aussi Israël avec toi aux mains des Philistins; et demain tu me rejoindras avec tes fils, et l'armée d'Israël aussi, l'Éternel la livrera aux mains des Philistins.
20 Then Saul fell immediately his full length on the earth, and was terrified, because of Samuel’s words. There was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all day long or all night long.
Et soudain Saül tomba de toute sa longueur sur le sol, épouvanté qu'il était du discours de Samuel, et de plus il était exténué n'ayant pris aucun aliment de tout le jour et de toute la nuit.
21 The woman came to Saul and saw that he was very troubled, and said to him, “Behold, your servant has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have listened to your words which you spoke to me.
Et lorsque la femme entra chez Saül et le vit si fort consterné, elle lui dit: Voici, ta servante a obéi à ta voix, et j'ai mis ma vie au jeu et prêté l'oreille aux paroles que tu m'as dites.
22 Now therefore, please listen also to the voice of your servant, and let me set a morsel of bread before you. Eat, that you may have strength when you go on your way.”
Eh bien! de ton côté prête aussi l'oreille à la voix de ta servante, et laisse-moi te servir quelque peu de nourriture et mange pour avoir la force de continuer ta route.
23 But he refused, and said, “I will not eat.” But his servants, together with the woman, constrained him; and he listened to their voice. So he arose from the earth and sat on the bed.
Mais il refusa et dit: Je ne mangerai point! Alors ses serviteurs et la femme aussi le pressèrent, et il céda à leurs instances, et il se releva de terre et se plaça sur le divan.
24 The woman had a fattened calf in the house. She hurried and killed it; and she took flour and kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread of it.
Et la femme avait dans la maison un veau gras qu'elle se hâta de tuer; puis elle prit de la farine qu'elle pétrit et boulangea en azymes.
25 She brought it before Saul and before his servants, and they ate. Then they rose up and went away that night.
Et elle servit ces mets à Saül et à ses serviteurs, qui mangèrent, puis se levèrent et partirent la nuit même.
