< 1 Samuel 15 >

1 Samuel said to Saul, “The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the LORD’s words.
Na rĩrĩ, Samũeli akĩĩra Saũlũ atĩrĩ, “Niĩ nĩ niĩ ndatũmirwo nĩ Jehova ngũitĩrĩrie maguta ũtuĩke mũthamaki wa andũ ake a Isiraeli; nĩ ũndũ ũcio rĩu thikĩrĩria ndũmĩrĩri kuuma kũrĩ Jehova.
2 The LORD of Hosts says, ‘I remember what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way when he came up out of Egypt.
Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga ũũ: ‘Nĩngaherithia Aamaleki nĩ ũndũ wa ũrĩa meekire Isiraeli rĩrĩa maamoheirie njĩra-inĩ makĩambata moimĩte bũrũri wa Misiri.
3 Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don’t spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”
4 Saul summoned the people, and counted them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen and ten thousand men of Judah.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Saũlũ agĩĩta andũ, akĩmacookanĩrĩria kũu Telaimu; nao maarĩ thigari cia magũrũ ngiri magana meerĩ na andũ ngiri ikũmi kuuma Juda.
5 Saul came to the city of Amalek, and set an ambush in the valley.
Saũlũ agĩthiĩ itũũra inene rĩa Amaleki, agĩikara ooheirie andũ kĩanda-inĩ.
6 Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, go down from amongst the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from amongst the Amalekites.
Ningĩ akĩĩra Akeni atĩrĩ, “Thiĩi mweherere Aamaleki nĩgeetha ndikamũniinanĩrie nao; nĩ ũndũ inyuĩ nĩmwekire andũ othe a Isiraeli maũndũ mega rĩrĩa maambataga moimĩte Misiri.” Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Akeni acio makĩeherera Aamaleki.
7 Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, which is before Egypt.
Nake Saũlũ agĩtharĩkĩra Aamaleki amarutĩtie kuuma Havila nginya Shuri, o nginya mwena wa irathĩro wa Misiri.
8 He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
Akĩnyiita Agagi mũthamaki wa Aamaleki arĩ muoyo, nao andũ ake othe akĩmaniina biũ na rũhiũ rwa njora.
9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, of the cattle, of the fat calves, of the lambs, and all that was good, and were not willing to utterly destroy them; but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.
Indo icio njega makĩaga gũciniina biũ, no kĩndũ gĩothe kĩrĩa gĩtangĩendekire na kĩhinyaru magĩkĩniina biũ.
10 Then the LORD’s word came to Samuel, saying,
Ningĩ ndũmĩrĩri ya Jehova ĩgĩkinyĩra Samũeli, akĩĩrwo atĩrĩ,
11 “It grieves me that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments.” Samuel was angry; and he cried to the LORD all night.
“Ndĩ na kĩeha nĩ gũtua Saũlũ mũthamaki, nĩ ũndũ nĩagarũrũkĩte na akaaga kũhingia mawatho makwa.” Samũeli agĩtangĩka na agĩkaĩra Jehova ũtukũ ũcio wothe.
12 Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and Samuel was told, saying, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself, turned, passed on, and went down to Gilgal.”
Rũciinĩ tene-rĩ, Samũeli agĩũkĩra agĩthiĩ agatũnge Saũlũ, no akĩĩrwo atĩrĩ, “Saũlũ nĩathiĩte Karimeli. Kũu nĩakĩte gĩtugĩ gĩa gũtũma aririkanagwo, na nĩahũndũkĩte agaikũrũka agathiĩ Giligali.”
13 Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, “You are blessed by the LORD! I have performed the commandment of the LORD.”
Rĩrĩa Samũeli aakinyire harĩ we, Saũlũ akiuga atĩrĩ, “Jehova arokũrathima! Nĩhingĩtie mawatho ma Jehova.”
14 Samuel said, “Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?”
No Samũeli akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Naguo mwanio ũcio wa ngʼondu ndĩraigua nĩ wa kĩĩ? Mwanio ũcio ndĩraigua wa ngʼombe-rĩ, ũkĩrĩ wa kĩĩ?”
15 Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to the LORD your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”
Saũlũ agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Thigari ici nĩcio ciacirutire kwa Aamaleki; magĩtigia ngʼondu imwe cia iria njega na ngʼombe cia kũrutĩra Jehova Ngai waku igongona, no icio ingĩ nĩtwaciniinire biũ.”
16 Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD said to me last night.” He said to him, “Say on.”
Samũeli akĩĩra Saũlũ atĩrĩ, “Ta thikĩrĩria! Reke ngwĩre ũrĩa Jehova anjĩĩrĩte ũtukũ ũyũ.” Nake Saũlũ agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Njĩĩra.”
17 Samuel said, “Though you were little in your own sight, weren’t you made the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel;
18 and the LORD sent you on a journey, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’
Nake agĩgũtũma ũthiĩ ũkarute wĩra, agĩkwĩra atĩrĩ, ‘Thiĩ ũkaniine andũ acio aaganu biũ; ũrũe na Aamaleki acio nginya ũmaniine biũ.’
19 Why then didn’t you obey the LORD’s voice, but took the plunder, and did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight?”
Waregire gwathĩkĩra Jehova nĩkĩ? Nĩ kĩĩ gĩatũmire ũguthũkĩre indo cia ndaho, ũgĩĩka ũũru maitho-inĩ ma Jehova?”
20 Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the LORD’s voice, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
Nake Saũlũ akiuga atĩrĩ, “No niĩ nĩndathĩkĩire Jehova; nĩndathiire kũruta wĩra ũrĩa Jehova aandũmire ngarute. Nĩndaniinire Aamaleki biũ, na ngĩrehe Agagi mũthamaki wao gũkũ.
21 But the people took of the plunder, sheep and cattle, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal.”
Thigari nĩcio cioire ngʼondu na ngʼombe kuuma kũrĩ indo iria ciatahĩtwo, iria ciarĩ njega ikĩamũrĩrwo Ngai, nĩguo irutĩrwo Jehova Ngai waku igongona kũu Giligali.”
22 Samuel said, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the LORD’s voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the LORD’s word, he has also rejected you from being king.”
Nĩ ũndũ ũremi ũhaana ta mehia ma ũragũri, nakuo kwaga gwathĩka kũhaana ta wĩhia wa kũhooya mĩhianano. Tondũ nĩũregete kiugo kĩa Jehova, nake nĩakũregete ta mũthamaki.”
24 Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.
Nake Saũlũ akĩĩra Samũeli atĩrĩ, “Nĩnjĩhĩtie. Nĩnjagararĩte watho wa Jehova na uuge waku. Nĩ andũ ndeetigĩrire ngĩkĩmaathĩkĩra.
25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.”
Rĩu ndagũthaitha, ndekera mehia makwa, na ũhũndũke ũtwarane na niĩ, nĩgeetha ngahooe Jehova.”
26 Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected the LORD’s word, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel.”
No Samũeli akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ndigũcooka hamwe nawe. Nĩũregete kiugo kĩa Jehova, nake Jehova nĩakũregete ũtuĩke mũthamaki wa gũthamakĩra Isiraeli!”
27 As Samuel turned around to go away, Saul grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.
Rĩrĩa Samũeli aagarũrũkaga athiĩ-rĩ, Saũlũ akĩnyiita ruuno rwa nguo yake, nayo ĩgĩtarũka.
28 Samuel said to him, “The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbour of yours who is better than you.
Samũeli akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Jehova nĩatarũra ũthamaki wa Isiraeli kuuma kũrĩ we ũmũthĩ na nĩaũnengera mũndũ ũngĩ wa andũ a itũũra rĩaku, mwega gũgũkĩra.
29 Also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.”
Ũrĩa we Riiri wa Isiraeli ndaheenanagia kana akericũkwo; nĩ ũndũ we ti mũndũ, atĩ nĩguo ericũkwo.”
30 Then he said, “I have sinned; yet please honour me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship the LORD your God.”
Saũlũ agĩcookia atĩrĩ, “Nĩnjĩhĩtie, no ndagũthaitha ndĩĩithia harĩ athuuri a andũ akwa na harĩ Isiraeli; cookania na niĩ, nĩgeetha ngahooe Jehova Ngai waku.”
31 So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Samũeli agĩcookania na Saũlũ, nake Saũlũ akĩhooya Jehova.
32 Then Samuel said, “Bring Agag the king of the Amalekites here to me!” Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”
Samũeli agĩcooka akĩmwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ndehera Agagi mũthamaki wa Aamaleki.” Agagi agĩũka kũrĩ we arĩ na ũmĩrĩru, agĩĩciiragia atĩrĩ, “Ti-itherũ ruo rwa gĩkuũ nĩrũthengu.”
33 Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless amongst women!” Then Samuel cut Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
No Samũeli akiuga atĩrĩ, “O ta ũrĩa rũhiũ rwaku rwa njora rũtũmĩte andũ-a-nja moorwo nĩ ciana-rĩ, noguo nyũkwa egũikara thĩinĩ wa andũ-a-nja atarĩ na mwana.” Nake Samũeli akĩũragĩra Agagi mbere ya Jehova kũu Giligali.
34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
Samũeli agĩcooka agĩthiĩ Rama, no Saũlũ akĩambata mũciĩ gwake Gibea itũũra rĩake.
35 Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death, but Samuel mourned for Saul. The LORD grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
Nginya mũthenya ũrĩa Samũeli aakuire, ndaathiire kuona Saũlũ rĩngĩ, o na gũtuĩka Samũeli nĩamũcakayagĩra. Nake Jehova akĩigua kĩeha nĩ ũndũ nĩatuĩte Saũlũ mũthamaki wa gũthamakĩra Isiraeli.
