Zechariah 1

1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,

Le huitième mois, la seconde année de Darius, la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée à Zacharie, fils de Barachie, fils de Iddo, le prophète, en ces mots:

2 “Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.

L'Éternel a été irrité, irrité contre vos pères.

3 Therefore tell them, Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.

Dis-leur donc: Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Revenez à moi, dit l'Éternel des armées, et je reviendrai à vous, dit l'Éternel des armées.

4 Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Yahweh of Armies says, ‘Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear nor listen to me, says Yahweh.

Ne soyez pas comme vos pères à qui les premiers prophètes criaient et disaient: « Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Quittez donc vos voies mauvaises et vos mauvaises œuvres! » mais ils n'écoutèrent point et ne tinrent nul compte de moi, dit l'Éternel.

5 Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

Vos pères, où sont-ils? et les prophètes vivent-ils éternellement?

6 But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”

Cependant mes paroles et mes décrets dont j'avais chargé mes serviteurs, les prophètes, n'ont-ils pas atteint vos pères? Et ils se convertirent et dirent: Comme l'Éternel des armées avait résolu de nous traiter selon nos voies et nos œuvres, ainsi nous a-t-Il traités.

7 On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,

Le vingt-quatrième jour du onzième mois (c'est le mois de Sébat), la seconde année de Darius, la parole de l'Éternel fut adressée à Zacharie, fils de Barachie, fils de Iddo, le prophète, en ces mots:

8 “I had a vision in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.

J'eus une vision pendant la nuit, et voici, c'était un homme monté sur un cheval rouge, et il se tenait parmi les myrtes qui étaient dans un fond, et derrière lui étaient des chevaux rouges, fauves et blancs.

9 Then I asked, ‘My lord, what are these?’” The angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”

Et je dis: Qui sont-ils, mon Seigneur? Et l'ange qui parlait avec moi, me dit: Je te ferai voir qui ils sont.

10 The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.”

Et l'homme qui se tenait parmi les myrtes, prit la parole et dit: Ce sont ceux que l'Éternel a envoyés parcourir la terre.

11 They reported to Yahweh’s angel who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.”

Et ils répondirent à l'ange de l'Éternel qui se tenait parmi les myrtes, et dirent: Nous avons parcouru la terre, et voici, toute la terre est calme et tranquille.

12 Then Yahweh’s angel replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”

Et l'ange de l'Éternel répondit et dit: Éternel des armées, jusques à quand seras-tu sans pitié pour Jérusalem et les villes de Juda contre lesquelles tu fus irrité ces soixante-dix ans?

13 Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.

Et l'Éternel répondit à l'ange qui parlait avec moi, des paroles de bonté, des paroles de consolation.

14 So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

Et l'ange qui parlait avec moi, me dit: Proclame ces paroles: Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: J'ai pour Jérusalem et Sion une vive passion;

15 I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.”

aussi suis-je ému d'un grand courroux contre les nations [maintenant] en sécurité: quand j'étais un peu irrité [contre Juda], elles contribuèrent à son malheur.

16 Therefore Yahweh says: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and a line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’

Aussi ainsi parle l'Éternel: Je reviens à Jérusalem avec des miséricordes; ma maison y sera bâtie, dit l'Éternel des armées, et le cordeau sera tendu sur Jérusalem.

17 “Proclaim further, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”

Proclame encore ces paroles: Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Mes villes regorgeront encore de biens et l'Éternel consolera encore Sion et fera encore choix de Jérusalem.

18 I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns.

Et je levai les yeux et regardai, et voici quatre cornes.

19 I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

Et je dis à l'ange qui parlait avec moi: Qu'est-ce? Et il me dit: Ce sont les cornes qui ont dispersé Juda, Israël et Jérusalem.

20 Yahweh showed me four craftsmen.

Et l'Éternel me fit voir quatre forgerons.

21 Then I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

Et je dis: Que viennent-ils faire? Et Il dit: Ce sont les cornes qui ont dispersé Juda de telle sorte que nul homme ne releva la tête; et ceux-ci viennent pour les épouvanter, pour abattre les cornes des nations qui ont levé la corne contre le pays de Juda pour le disperser.
