Psalms 81

1 For the Chief Musician. On an instrument of Gath. By Asaph. Sing aloud to God, our strength! Make a joyful shout to the God of Jacob!

Au chef des chantres. Sur la Ghitit. D’Assaph. Célébrez Dieu, notre force, acclamez le Dieu de Jacob!

2 Raise a song, and bring here the tambourine, the pleasant lyre with the harp.

Chantez des hymnes, faites retentir le tambourin, la harpe suave ainsi que le luth,

3 Blow the trumpet at the New Moon, at the full moon, on our feast day.

sonnez le Chofar à la nouvelle lune, au jour fixé pour notre solennité.

4 For it is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.

Car c’est une loi en Israël, une coutume en l’honneur du Dieu de Jacob;

5 He appointed it in Joseph for a covenant, when he went out over the land of Egypt, I heard a language that I didn’t know.

c’est un témoignage qu’il établit dans Joseph, quand il marcha contre l’Egypte. J’Entendis alors des accents inconnus pour moi…

6 “I removed his shoulder from the burden. His hands were freed from the basket.

J’Ai déchargé du fardeau son épaule, ses mains sont affranchies du lourd panier.

7 You called in trouble, and I delivered you. I answered you in the secret place of thunder. I tested you at the waters of Meribah.” (Selah)

Dans la détresse tu as appelé, et je t’ai délivré, je t’ai exaucé du sein mystérieux de la foudre, je t’ai éprouvé auprès des eaux de Meriba. (Sélah)

8 “Hear, my people, and I will testify to you, Israel, if you would listen to me!

"Ecoute, mon peuple, je veux t’adjurer; ô Israël, puisses-tu m’écouter!

9 There shall be no strange god in you, neither shall you worship any foreign god.

Qu’il n’y ait pas chez toi de divinité étrangère, ne te prosterne pas devant un dieu du dehors.

10 I am Yahweh, your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Je suis, moi, l’Eternel, ton Dieu qui t’ai tiré du pays d’Egypte. Ouvre largement ta bouche et je la remplirai."

11 But my people didn’t listen to my voice. Israel desired none of me.

Mais mon peuple n’a pas écouté ma voix, Israël a refusé de m’obéir.

12 So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts, that they might walk in their own counsels.

Je les ai donc abandonnés à l’entraînement de leur cœur, ils suivirent leurs propres inspirations.

13 Oh that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!

Ah! si mon peuple voulait m’écouter, Israël marcher dans mes voies,

14 I would soon subdue their enemies, and turn my hand against their adversaries.

bien vite, je dompterais leurs ennemis, je ferais peser ma main sur leurs adversaires.

15 The haters of Yahweh would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.

Ceux qui haïssent l’Eternel ramperaient devant lui, mais leur bonheur, à eux, durerait toujours.

16 But he would have also fed them with the finest of the wheat. I will satisfy you with honey out of the rock.”

Il les nourrirait de la mœlle du froment, et les rassasierait avec le miel des rochers.
