< Psalms 6 >

1 For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David. Yahweh, don’t rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
For the End, a Psalm of David among the Hymns for the eighth. O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath, neither chasten me in thine anger.
2 Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am faint. Yahweh, heal me, for my bones are troubled.
Pity me, O Lord; for I am weak: heal me, O Lord; for my bones are vexed.
3 My soul is also in great anguish. But you, Yahweh—how long?
My soul also is grievously vexed: but thou, O Lord, how long?
4 Return, Yahweh. Deliver my soul, and save me for your loving kindness’ sake.
Return, O Lord, deliver my soul: save me for thy mercy's sake.
5 For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks? (Sheol h7585)
For in death no man remembers thee: and who will give thee thanks in Hades? (Sheol h7585)
6 I am weary with my groaning. Every night I flood my bed. I drench my couch with my tears.
I am wearied with my groaning; I shall wash my bed every night; I shall water my couch with tears.
7 My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
Mine eye is troubled because of my wrath; I am worn out because of all my enemies.
8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for Yahweh has heard the voice of my weeping.
Depart from me, all ye that work iniquity; for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping.
9 Yahweh has heard my supplication. Yahweh accepts my prayer.
The Lord has hearkened to my petition; the Lord has accepted my prayer.
10 May all my enemies be ashamed and dismayed. They shall turn back, they shall be disgraced suddenly.
Let all mine enemies be put to shame and sore troubled: let them be turned back and grievously put to shame speedily.
