Matthew 5
1 Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
Als er aber die Massen sah, stieg er auf den Berg, und da er sich gesetzt, traten seine Jünger zu ihm.
2 He opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
Und er that seinen Mund auf und lehrte sie also:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Selig die Armen im Geist, denn ihr ist das Reich der Himmel.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Selig die Trauernden, denn sie werden getröstet werden.
5 Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Selig die Sanftmütigen, denn sie werden das Land erben.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Selig, die hungern und dürsten nach der Gerechtigkeit, denn sie werden gesättigt werden.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Selig die Barmherzigen, denn sie werden Barmherzigkeit erfahren.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Selig, die rein im Herzen sind, denn sie werden Gott schauen.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Selig die Friedfertigen, denn sie werden Gottes Söhne heißen.
10 Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Selig die um Gerechtigkeit Verfolgten, denn ihr ist das Reich der Himmel.
11 “Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Selig seid ihr, wenn sie euch schmähen und verfolgen, und euch alles Schlechte andichten um meinetwillen.
12 Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Freuet euch und frohlocket, denn euer Lohn ist groß in den Himmeln; denn so haben sie die Propheten vor euch verfolgt.
13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what will it be salted? It is then good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under the feet of men.
Ihr seid das Salz der Erde; wenn aber das Salz taub wird, womit soll man es salzen? Es taugt zu nichts, als weggeworfen und von den Menschen zertreten zu werden.
14 You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden.
Ihr seid das Licht der Welt. Eine Stadt, die auf einem Berge liegt, läßt sich nicht verstecken.
15 Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house.
Man zündet auch nicht ein Licht an und setzt es unter ein Hohlmaß, sondern auf den Leuchter, so leuchtet es allen im Hause.
16 Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
So soll euer Licht leuchten vor den Menschen, auf daß sie eure guten Werke sehen, und euren Vater in den Himmeln preisen.
17 “Don’t think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill.
Denket nicht, daß ich gekommen, das Gesetz oder die Propheten aufzulösen; nicht aufzulösen bin ich gekommen, sondern zu erfüllen.
18 For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished.
Denn wahrlich, ich sage euch, bis der Himmel und die Erde vergehen, soll auch nicht ein Jota oder ein Häkchen vom Gesetze vergehen, bis alles wird geschehen sein.
19 Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least commandments and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Wer also eines von diesen Geboten, von den geringsten, löst, und lehrt so die Menschen, wird zu den Geringsten zählen im Reich der Himmel. Wer es aber thut und lehrt, der wird groß heißen im Reich der Himmel.
20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Denn ich sage euch, wenn es mit eurer Gerechtigkeit nicht mehr ist, als bei den Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäern, so werdet ihr mit nichten in das Reich der Himmel kommen.
21 “You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not murder;’ and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’
Ihr habt gehört: es ist den Alten gesagt: du sollst nicht töten; wer aber tötet, soll dem Gerichte verfallen sein.
22 But I tell you that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be in danger of the judgment. Whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ will be in danger of the council. Whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
Ich aber sage euch: jeder, der seinem Bruder zürnt, soll dem Gerichte verfallen sein. Wer aber seinen Bruder einen Taugenichts heißt, soll dem Synedrium, und wer ihn einen Gottlosen heißt, soll für die Feuerhölle verfallen sein. (Geenna g1067)
23 “If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you,
Wenn du denn deine Gabe zum Altar bringst, und es fällt dir dort ein, daß dein Bruder etwas gegen dich hat,
24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
so laß deine Gabe dort vor dem Altar, und gehe zuerst hin und versöhne dich mit deinem Bruder, und hierauf komme und bringe deine Gabe dar.
25 Agree with your adversary quickly while you are with him on the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.
Komme deinem Widersacher entgegen ohne Verzug, solange du noch mit ihm unterwegs bist, damit dich nicht der Widersacher dem Richter übergebe und der Richter dem Schergen und du werdest ins Gefängnis geworfen;
26 Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there until you have paid the last penny.
wahrlich, ich sage dir, du sollst mit nichten von dort herauskommen, bis du den letzten Quadranten bezahlt hast.
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery;’
Ihr habt gehört: es ist gesagt: du sollst nicht ehebrechen.
28 but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Ich aber sage euch: jeder der nach einem Weibe sieht in Lüsternheit, hat schon die Ehe mit ihr gebrochen in seinem Herzen.
29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
Wenn dich aber dein rechtes Auge ärgert, so reiß es heraus und wirf es von dir. Denn es ist dir besser, daß eines deiner Glieder verloren gehe, als daß dein ganzer Leib in die Hölle geworfen werde. (Geenna g1067)
30 If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
Und wenn dich deine rechte Hand ärgert, so haue sie ab und wirf sie von dir; denn es ist dir besser, daß eines deiner Glieder verloren gehe, als daß dein ganzer Leib in die Hölle komme. (Geenna g1067)
31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorce,’
Sodann ist gesagt: wer sein Weib entläßt, soll ihr einen Scheidebrief geben.
32 but I tell you that whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of sexual immorality, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries her when she is put away commits adultery.
Ich aber sage euch: jeder, der sein Weib entläßt, ausgenommen den Fall der Unzucht, macht, daß sie die Ehe bricht, und wer eine Entlassene heiratet, der bricht die Ehe.
33 “Again you have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not make false vows, but shall perform to the Lord your vows,’
Wiederum habt ihr gehört: es ist den Alten gesagt: du sollst nicht falsch schwören, du sollst aber dem Herrn deine Schwüre abtragen.
34 but I tell you, don’t swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
Ich aber sage euch: ihr sollt überhaupt nicht schwören, weder beim Himmel, denn er ist Gottes Thron;
35 nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
noch bei der Erde, denn sie ist seiner Füße Schemel; noch bei Jerusalem, denn es ist des großen Königs Stadt.
36 Neither shall you swear by your head, for you can’t make one hair white or black.
Noch sollst du bei deinem Kopf schwören, denn du vermagst nicht ein einziges Haar weiß oder schwarz zu machen.
37 But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No.’ Whatever is more than these is of the evil one.
Es sei aber euer Wort: ja, ja; nein, nein; was darüber ist, ist vom Bösen.
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
Ihr habt gehört: es ist gesagt: Auge um Auge und Zahn um Zahn.
39 But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Ich aber sage euch: nicht dem Bösen widerstehen; sondern wer dich schlägt auf die rechte Wange, dem biete auch die andere.
40 If anyone sues you to take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.
Und wer mit dir rechten und dir den Rock nehmen will, dem laß auch den Mantel.
41 Whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
Wer dich zu laufen nötigt eine Meile, mit dem gehe zwei.
42 Give to him who asks you, and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you.
Gib dem, der dich bittet, und von dem, der von dir borgen will, wende dich nicht ab.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
Ihr habt gehört: es ist gesagt: du sollst lieben deinen Nächsten und hassen deinen Feind.
44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,
Ich aber sage euch: liebet eure Feinde und betet für eure Verfolger,
45 that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
auf daß ihr werdet Söhne eures Vaters in den Himmeln.
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
Denn er lässet seine Sonne aufgehen über Böse und Gute, und regnen über Gerechte und Ungerechte. Denn wenn ihr liebet, die euch lieben, was habt ihr für einen Lohn? Thun nicht auch die Zöllner dasselbe?
47 If you only greet your friends, what more do you do than others? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?
Und wenn ihr nur eure Brüder begrüßet, was thut ihr besonderes? Thun nicht auch die Heiden dasselbe?
48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
So sollt ihr denn vollkommen sein, wie euer himmlischer Vater vollkommen ist.
