Matthew 23
1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
Entonces Jesús habló a las multitudes y a sus discípulos,
2 saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
diciendo: “Los escribas y los fariseos se sientan en la cátedra de Moisés.
3 All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
Por tanto, todo lo que os digan que observéis, observadlo y hacedlo, pero no hagáis sus obras; porque ellos dicen y no hacen.
4 For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
Porque atan cargas pesadas y difíciles de llevar, y las ponen sobre los hombros de los hombres; pero ellos mismos no mueven un dedo para ayudarlos.
5 But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
Pero hacen todas sus obras para ser vistos por los hombres. Ensanchan sus filacterias y agrandan los flecos de sus vestidos,
6 and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
y aman el lugar de honor en las fiestas, los mejores asientos en las sinagogas,
7 the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
las salutaciones en las plazas, y que los hombres los llamen “Rabí, Rabí”.
8 But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
Pero a vosotros no se os debe llamar “Rabí”, porque uno es vuestro maestro, el Cristo, y todos vosotros sois hermanos.
9 Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
No llaméis padre a nadie en la tierra, porque uno es vuestro Padre, el que está en el cielo.
10 Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
Ni os llaméis maestros, porque uno es vuestro maestro, el Cristo.
11 But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
Pero el que es más grande entre vosotros será vuestro servidor.
12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
El que se enaltece será humillado, y el que se humilla será enaltecido.
13 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
“¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque devoráis las casas de las viudas, y como pretexto hacéis largas oraciones. Por eso recibiréis mayor condena.
14 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
“Pero ¡ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque cerráis el Reino de los Cielos a los hombres; porque no entráis vosotros mismos, ni dejáis entrar a los que están entrando.
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehenna as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque recorréis mar y tierra para hacer un prosélito; y cuando lo es, lo hacéis dos veces más hijo de la Gehena que vosotros. (Geenna g1067)
16 “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
“¡Ay de vosotros, guías ciegos, que decís: ‘Quien jura por el templo, no es nada; pero quien jura por el oro del templo, está obligado’!
17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
¡Necios ciegos! Porque, ¿qué es más grande, el oro o el templo que santifica el oro?
18 And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
Y el que jura por el altar, no es nada; pero el que jura por la ofrenda que está sobre él, está obligado.
19 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
¡Ustedes tontos ciegos! Porque, ¿qué es más grande, el don o el altar que santifica el don?
20 He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
El que jura por el altar, jura por él y por todo lo que hay en él.
21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
El que jura por el templo, jura por él y por el que ha vivido en él.
22 He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
El que jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios y por el que está sentado en él.
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
“¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque diezmáis la menta, el eneldo y el comino, y habéis dejado de hacer las cosas más importantes de la ley: la justicia, la misericordia y la fe. Pero deberíais haber hecho éstas, y no haber dejado de hacer las otras.
24 You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
¡Guías ciegos, que coláis un mosquito y os tragáis un camello!
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
“¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque limpiáis el exterior de la copa y del plato, pero por dentro están llenos de extorsión e injusticia.
26 You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
Fariseo ciego, limpia primero el interior de la copa y del plato, para que también se limpie su exterior.
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
“¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque sois como sepulcros blanqueados, que por fuera parecen hermosos, pero por dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos y de toda inmundicia.
28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Así también vosotros por fuera parecéis justos a los hombres, pero por dentro estáis llenos de hipocresía e iniquidad.
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
“¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas y adornáis los sepulcros de los justos,
30 and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
y decís: ‘Si hubiéramos vivido en los días de nuestros padres, no habríamos participado con ellos en la sangre de los profetas’.
31 Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
Por lo tanto, vosotros mismos atestiguáis que sois hijos de los que mataron a los profetas.
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
Llenad, pues, la medida de vuestros padres.
33 You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna? (Geenna g1067)
Vosotros, serpientes, descendientes de víboras, ¿cómo podréis escapar del juicio de la Gehena? (Geenna g1067)
34 Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
Por tanto, he aquí que yo os envío profetas, sabios y escribas. A algunos de ellos los mataréis y crucificaréis, y a otros los azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas y los perseguiréis de ciudad en ciudad,
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
para que caiga sobre vosotros toda la sangre justa derramada en la tierra, desde la sangre del justo Abel hasta la sangre de Zacarías hijo de Baracía, a quien matasteis entre el santuario y el altar.
36 Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
De cierto os digo que todas estas cosas vendrán sobre esta generación.
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
“¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que te son envíados ¡Cuántas veces quise reunir a tus hijos, como la gallina reúne a sus polluelos bajo sus alas, y no quisiste!
38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
He aquí que tu casa te ha quedado desolada.
39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
Porque os digo que desde ahora no me veréis, hasta que digáis: “¡Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor!”
