Matthew 2
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
Jésus étant né à Bethléem de Judée, aux jours du roi Hérode, voici que des Mages arrivèrent d’Orient à Jérusalem,
2 “Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.”
disant: « Où est le roi des Juifs qui vient de naître? Car nous avons vu son étoile en Orient, et nous sommes venus l’adorer. »
3 When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Ce que le roi Hérode ayant appris, il fut troublé, et tout Jérusalem avec lui.
4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.
Il assembla tous les Princes des prêtres et les scribes du peuple, et s’enquit auprès d’eux où devait naître le Christ.
5 They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,
Ils lui dirent: « A Bethléem de Judée, selon ce qui a été écrit par le prophète:
6 ‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the princes of Judah; for out of you shall come a governor who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’”
Et toi, Bethléem, terre de Juda, tu n’es pas la moindre parmi les principales villes de Juda, car de toi sortira un Chef qui doit paître Israël, mon peuple. »
7 Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.
Alors Hérode, ayant fait venir secrètement les Mages, apprit d’eux la date précise à laquelle l’étoile était apparue.
8 He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”
Et il les envoya à Bethléem en disant: « Allez, informez-vous exactement de l’Enfant, et lorsque vous l’aurez trouvé, faites-le-moi savoir, afin que moi aussi j’aille l’adorer. »
9 They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them until it came and stood over where the young child was.
Ayant entendu les paroles du roi, ils partirent. Et voilà que l’étoile qu’ils avaient vue en Orient allait devant eux, jusqu’à ce que, venant au-dessus du lieu où était l’Enfant, elle s’arrêta.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
A la vue de l’étoile, ils se réjouirent d’une grande joie.
11 They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Ils entrèrent dans la maison, trouvèrent l’Enfant avec Marie, sa mère, et, se prosternant, ils l’adorèrent; puis, ouvrant leurs trésors, ils lui offrirent en présent de l’or, de l’encens et de la myrrhe.
12 Being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.
Mais ayant été avertis en songe de ne pas retourner vers Hérode, ils regagnèrent leur pays par un autre chemin.
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”
Après leur départ, voici qu’un ange du Seigneur apparut à Joseph pendant son sommeil, et lui dit: « Lève-toi, prends l’Enfant et sa mère, fuis en Égypte et restes-y jusqu’à ce que je t’avertisse; car Hérode va rechercher l’Enfant pour le faire périr. »
14 He arose and took the young child and his mother by night and departed into Egypt,
Joseph se leva, et la nuit même, prenant l’Enfant avec sa mère, il se retira en Égypte.
15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
Et il y resta jusqu’à la mort d’Hérode, afin que s’accomplît ce qu’avait dit le Seigneur par le Prophète: « J’ai rappelé mon fils d’Égypte. »
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.
Alors Hérode, voyant que les Mages s’étaient joués de lui, entra dans une grande colère, et envoya tuer tous les enfants qui étaient dans Bethléem et dans les environs, depuis l’âge de deux ans et au-dessous, d’après la date qu’il connaissait exactement par les Mages.
17 Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
Alors fut accompli l’oracle du prophète Jérémie disant:
18 “A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; she wouldn’t be comforted, because they are no more.”
Une voix a été entendue dans Rama, des plaintes et des cris lamentables: Rachel pleure ses enfants; et elle n’a pas voulu être consolée, parce qu’ils ne sont plus.
19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,
Hérode étant mort, voici qu’un ange du Seigneur apparut en songe à Joseph dans la terre d’Égypte,
20 “Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child’s life are dead.”
et lui dit: « Lève-toi, prends l’Enfant et sa mère, et va dans la terre d’Israël, car ceux qui en voulaient à la vie de l’Enfant sont morts. »
21 He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
Joseph s’étant levé, prit l’Enfant et sa mère, et vint dans la terre d’Israël.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,
Mais, apprenant qu’Archélaüs régnait en Judée à la place d’Hérode, son père, il n’osa y aller, et, ayant été averti en songe, il se retira dans la Galilée
23 and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets that he will be called a Nazarene.
et vint habiter une ville nommée Nazareth, afin que s’accomplît ce qu’avaient dit les prophètes: « Il sera appelé Nazaréen. »
