Matthew 17
1 After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.
Six jours après, Jésus prit Pierre, Jacques et Jean son frère, et les conduisit sur une haute montagne, à l’écart.
2 He was changed before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.
Et il fut transfiguré devant eux; sa face resplendit comme le soleil, et ses vêtements devinrent blancs comme la neige.
3 Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.
Et voilà que Moïse et Élie leur apparurent, s’entretenant avec lui.
4 Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let’s make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Or, prenant la parole, Pierre dit à Jésus: Seigneur, il nous est bon d’être ici; si vous voulez, faisons-y trois tentes, une pour vous, une pour Moïse, et une pour Elie.
5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”
Il parlait encore, lorsqu’une nuée lumineuse les couvrit. Et voici une voix de la nuée, disant: Celui-ci est mon fils bien-aimé, en qui j’ai mis toutes mes complaisances. Écoutez-le.
6 When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.
Or, les disciples entendant cela, tombèrent sur leur face, et furent saisis d’une frayeur extrême.
7 Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid.”
Mais Jésus s’approcha et les toucha; et il leur dit: Levez-vous et ne craignez point.
8 Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone.
Alors, levant les yeux, ils ne virent plus personne, si ce n’est Jésus, seul.
9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Don’t tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”
Et comme ils descendaient de la montagne, Jésus leur commanda, disant: Ne parlez à personne de cette vision, jusqu’à ce que le Fils de l’homme ressuscite d’entre les morts.
10 His disciples asked him, saying, “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
Et les disciples l’interrogèrent, disant: Pourquoi donc les scribes disent-ils qu’il faut qu’auparavant Elie vienne?
11 Jesus answered them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and will restore all things;
Jésus répondant, leur dit: Elie, en effet, doit venir, et il rétablira toutes choses.
12 but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn’t recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them.”
Mais je vous le dis: Elie est déjà venu, et ils ne l’ont point connu, et ils lui ont fait tout ce qu’ils ont voulu. C’est ainsi que le Fils de l’homme lui-même doit être traité par eux.
13 Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptizer.
Alors les disciples comprirent qu’il leur avait parlé de Jean-Baptiste.
14 When they came to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him and saying,
Lorsqu’il fut venu vers le peuple, un homme s’approcha de lui, et il se jeta à ses pieds, disant:
15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic and suffers grievously; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
Seigneur, ayez pitié de mon fils, parce qu’il est lunatique et qu’il souffre cruellement; car il tombe souvent dans le feu et souvent dans l’eau.
16 So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.”
Je l’ai présenté à vos disciples, et ils n’ont pu le guérir.
17 Jesus answered, “Faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me.”
Et répondant, Jésus dit: Ô race incrédule et perverse, jusqu’à quand serai-je avec vous? jusqu’à quand vous supporterai-je? Amenez-le-moi ici.
18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.
Or, Jésus ayant gourmandé le démon, il sortit de l’enfant, qui fut guéri à l’heure même.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, “Why weren’t we able to cast it out?”
Alors les disciples s’approchèrent de Jésus en secret, et lui dirent: Pourquoi nous, n’avons-nous pu le chasser?
20 He said to them, “Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
Jésus leur répondit: À cause de votre incrédulité. En vérité, je vous le dis, si vous aviez de la foi comme un grain de sénevé, vous diriez à cette montagne: Passe d’ici là, et elle y passerait, et rien ne vous serait impossible.
21 But this kind doesn’t go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Mais ce genre de démons ne se chasse que par la prière et le jeûne.
22 While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
Or, tandis qu’ils se trouvaient en Galilée, Jésus leur dit: Le Fils de l’homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes.
23 and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up.” They were exceedingly sorry.
Et ils le tueront, et le troisième jour il ressuscitera. Et ils furent extrêmement contristés.
24 When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins came to Peter, and said, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the didrachma?”
Lorsqu’ils vinrent à Capharnaüm, ceux qui recevaient le didrachme s’approchèrent de Pierre, et lui demandèrent: Est-ce que votre maître ne paye pas le didrachme?
25 He said, “Yes.” When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?”
Il répondit: Il le paye. Et lorsqu’il fut entré dans la maison, Jésus le prévint, disant: Que t’en semble, Simon? De qui les rois de la terre reçoivent-ils le tribut ou le cens? de leurs enfants ou des étrangers?
26 Peter said to him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Therefore the children are exempt.
Et Pierre répondit: Des étrangers. Jésus lui dit: Ainsi, les enfants en sont exempts.
27 But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you.”
Cependant pour ne les point scandaliser, va à la mer, jette un hameçon; et le poisson qui le premier montera, prends-le; puis ouvrant sa bouche, tu trouveras un statère; l’ayant pris, donne-le pour moi et pour toi.
