Matthew 14
1 At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,
அக்காலத்திலே காற்பங்கு அரசனாகிய ஏரோது இயேசுவைப்பற்றிக் கேள்விப்பட்டான்.
2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”
ஏரோது தனது வேலைக்காரர்களிடம், “அவன் யோவான் ஸ்நானகனே; அவன் உயிரோடு திரும்பவும் எழுந்துவிட்டான்! அதனாலேயே, அவனிடத்தில் அற்புத வல்லமைகள் செயல்படுகிறது” என்று சொன்னான்.
3 For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.
தனது சகோதரன் பிலிப்புவின் மனைவி ஏரோதியாளின் நிமித்தமே, ஏரோது யோவானைக் கைதுசெய்து, அவனைக் கட்டி, சிறையில் அடைத்திருந்தான்.
4 For John said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
ஏனெனில் யோவான் அவனிடம்: “அவளை நீ வைத்திருப்பது சட்டத்திற்கு மாறானது” என்று சொல்லியிருந்தான்.
5 When he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
ஏரோது யோவானைக் கொலைசெய்ய விரும்பினான். ஆனால் மக்களுக்குப் பயந்திருந்தான். ஏனெனில் மக்கள் அவனை இறைவாக்கினன் என்று எண்ணினார்கள்.
6 But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.
ஏரோதின் பிறந்தநாள் அன்று, ஏரோதியாளின் மகள் அவர்களுக்காக நடனமாடி, ஏரோதை மிகவும் மகிழ்வித்தாள்.
7 Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.
அதனால் அவள் எதைக் கேட்டாலும் அதை அவளுக்குத் தருவதாக ஏரோது ஆணையிட்டு வாக்குக்கொடுத்தான்.
8 She, being prompted by her mother, said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”
அவள் தனது தாயின் தூண்டுதலினால், “யோவான் ஸ்நானகனின் தலையை ஒரு தட்டில் வைத்து எனக்குக் கொடுங்கள்” என்று கேட்டாள்.
9 The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,
அரசன் மிகவும் துக்கமடைந்தான். ஆனால் தனது ஆணையின் நிமித்தமும், தனது விருந்தினர்களின் நிமித்தமும், அவன் அவளுடைய வேண்டுதலை நிறைவேற்றும்படி உத்தரவிட்டான்.
10 and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
அவ்வாறே, சிறையில் யோவானின் தலைவெட்டப்பட்டது.
11 His head was brought on a platter and given to the young lady; and she brought it to her mother.
அவனுடைய தலை ஒரு தட்டில் வைக்கப்பட்டு, அந்தச் சிறுமியிடம் கொண்டுவந்து கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. அவள் அதைத் தன் தாயிடம் கொண்டுபோனாள்.
12 His disciples came, took the body, and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.
அப்பொழுது யோவானின் சீடர்கள் வந்து, அவனது உடலை எடுத்து அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள். அதற்குப் பின்பு அவர்கள் இயேசுவிடம் சென்று நடந்ததைச் சொன்னார்கள்.
13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.
இயேசு நடந்தவற்றைக் கேள்விப்பட்டபோது, யாருக்கும் தெரியாமல் தனிமையான இடத்திற்கு படகில் ஏறிச்சென்றார். இதைக் கேள்விப்பட்ட மக்கள், பட்டணத்திலிருந்து கால்நடையாக அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து சென்றார்கள்.
14 Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them and healed their sick.
இயேசு கரையில் இறங்கியவுடன், அங்கே மக்களின் பெரிய கூட்டத்தைக் கண்டு, அவர்கள்மேல் மனதுருகி, அவர்களில் நோயுள்ளவர்களைச் குணமாக்கினார்.
15 When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”
மாலை வேளையானபோது, சீடர்கள் இயேசுவிடம் வந்து, “இது சற்று தூரமான ஒரு இடம். ஏற்கெனவே நேரமாகிவிட்டது. மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை அனுப்பிவிடும். அவர்கள் கிராமங்களுக்குப் போய், அங்கே தங்களுக்கு வேண்டிய சாப்பாட்டை வாங்கிக்கொள்ளட்டும்” என்றார்கள்.
16 But Jesus said to them, “They don’t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
அதற்கு இயேசு, “அவர்கள் போக வேண்டியதில்லை. நீங்களே அவர்களுக்கு ஏதாவது சாப்பிடக் கொடுங்கள்” என்றார்.
17 They told him, “We only have here five loaves and two fish.”
“இங்கே எங்களிடம் ஐந்து அப்பங்களும், இரண்டு மீன்களும் மட்டுமே இருக்கின்றன” என அவர்கள் சொன்னார்கள்.
18 He said, “Bring them here to me.”
“அவற்றை என்னிடம் கொண்டுவாருங்கள்” என்றார்.
19 He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.
அவர் மக்களை புற்தரையில் உட்காரும்படிச் செய்தார். பின்பு அவர், அந்த ஐந்து அப்பங்களையும் இரண்டு மீன்களையும் எடுத்து, வானத்தை நோக்கிப்பார்த்து, இறைவனுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தி, அப்பங்களைப் பிட்டு சீடர்களிடம் கொடுத்தார். சீடர்கள் அதை மக்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்.
20 They all ate and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.
அவர்கள் எல்லோரும் சாப்பிட்டுத் திருப்தியடைந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் சாப்பிட்டு மீதியான துண்டுகளை சீடர்கள் பன்னிரண்டு கூடைகள் நிறைய சேர்த்து எடுத்தார்கள்.
21 Those who ate were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.
சாப்பிட்ட ஆண்களின் எண்ணிக்கை ஏறக்குறைய ஐயாயிரமாயிருந்தது. இவர்களைத் தவிர, பெண்களும் பிள்ளைகளுங்கூட இருந்தார்கள்.
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
பின்பு இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை அனுப்பிக் கொண்டிருக்கையில், தனக்கு முன்பாகவே சீடரை படகில் ஏறி மறுகரைக்குப் போகும்படி செய்தார்.
23 After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.
அவர்களை அனுப்பிவிட்ட பின்பு, இயேசு தனிமையாக மன்றாடுவதற்கென மலையின்மேல் ஏறினார். இரவு வேளையானபோது, அவர் அங்கே தனிமையாய் இருந்தார்.
24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
ஆனால் சீடர்கள் சென்ற படகு, கரையை விட்டு மிகத் தொலைவில் போயிருந்தது. எதிர்க்காற்று வீசியதால் படகு அலைக்கழிக்கப்பட்டது.
25 In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.
அதிகாலை மூன்றாம்மணி நேரத்தில், இயேசு கடலின்மேல் நடந்து அவர்களிடம் சென்றார்.
26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It’s a ghost!” and they cried out for fear.
அவர் கடலின்மேல் நடப்பதை சீடர்கள் கண்டபோது, திகிலடைந்து, “அது பேய்!” என்று சொல்லி, பயத்துடன் சத்தமிட்டார்கள்.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”
உடனே இயேசு அவர்களிடம்: “தைரியமாய் இருங்கள்! இது நான்தான், பயப்படவேண்டாம்” என்றார்.
28 Peter answered him and said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”
அதற்கு பேதுரு, “ஆண்டவரே, நீர்தான் என்றால், நானும் தண்ணீர்மேல் நடந்து உம்மிடம் வரும்படி சொல்லும்” என்றான்.
29 He said, “Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.
அதற்கு இயேசு, “வா” என்றார். அப்பொழுது பேதுரு படகைவிட்டு வெளியே இறங்கி, தண்ணீரின்மேல் நடந்து இயேசுவை நோக்கி வந்தான்.
30 But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
ஆனால் அவன் காற்றைக் கண்டபோது பயமடைந்து மூழ்கத்தொடங்கி, “ஆண்டவரே என்னைக் காப்பாற்றும்!” என்று கதறினான்.
31 Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
உடனே இயேசு தமது கையை நீட்டி பேதுருவைப் பிடித்தார். “அற்பவிசுவாசியே, ஏன் சந்தேகப்பட்டாய்?” என்றார்.
32 When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.
அவர்கள் படகில் ஏறியபோது காற்று அமர்ந்து போயிற்று.
33 Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “You are truly the Son of God!”
படகிற்குள் இருந்தவர்கள் அவரை வழிபட்டு, “உண்மையாகவே, நீர் இறைவனின் மகன்!” என்றார்கள்.
34 When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
அவர்கள் மறுகரைக்குச் சென்று, கெனேசரேத்து என்னும் இடத்தில் கரை இறங்கினார்கள்.
35 When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region and brought to him all who were sick;
அந்த இடத்து மக்கள், இயேசுவை அடையாளம் கண்டபோது, சுற்றுப்புறங்களுக்கு எல்லாம் செய்தி அனுப்பினார்கள். அவர்களோ, தங்களில் நோயாளிகளை எல்லாம் அவரிடம் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள்.
36 and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.
நோயாளிகள் இயேசுவின் மேலுடையின் ஓரத்தையாகிலும் தொடுவதற்கு அவர் அனுமதிக்க வேண்டுமென, அவரைக் கெஞ்சிக் கேட்டார்கள். அவரைத் தொட்ட யாவரும் குணமடைந்தார்கள்.
