Matthew 12
1 At that time, Jesus went on the Sabbath day through the grain fields. His disciples were hungry and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat.
En ce temps-là, Jésus passait le long des blés un jour de sabbat, et ses disciples ayant faim se mirent à cueillir des épis et à les manger.
2 But the Pharisees, when they saw it, said to him, “Behold, your disciples do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.”
Les pharisiens voyant cela lui dirent: Voilà que vos disciples font ce qu’il n’est pas permis de faire aux jours du sabbat.
3 But he said to them, “Haven’t you read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him:
Mais il leur dit: N’avez-vous point lu ce que fit David, lorsqu’il eut faim, lui et ceux qui étaient avec lui?
4 how he entered into God’s house and ate the show bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?
Comme il entra dans la maison de Dieu, et mangea les pains de proposition qu’il ne lui était pas permis de manger, ni à ceux qui étaient avec lui, mais aux prêtres seuls?
5 Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath day the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless?
Ou n’avez-vous pas lu dans la loi, qu’aux jours du sabbat les prêtres, dans le temple, violent le sabbat et sont sans péché?
6 But I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.
Or, je vous dis qu’il y a ici quelqu’un de plus grand que le temple.
7 But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you wouldn’t have condemned the guiltless.
Et si vous compreniez ce que signifie: Je veux la miséricorde et non le sacrifice, vous n’auriez jamais condamné les innocents.
8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
Car le Fils de l’homme est maître du sabbat même.
9 He departed from there and went into their synagogue.
Etant parti de là, il vint dans leur synagogue.
10 And behold, there was a man with a withered hand. They asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day?” so that they might accuse him.
Or, voilà qu’un homme avait la main desséchée, et ils l’interrogaient, disant: Est-il permis de guérir les jours de sabbat? afin de l’accuser.
11 He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if this one falls into a pit on the Sabbath day, won’t he grab on to it and lift it out?
Mais il leur répondit: Quel sera l’homme d’entre vous qui, ayant une brebis, si cette brebis tombe dans une fosse le jour du sabbat, ne la prendra pas pour l’en retirer?
12 Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath day.”
Or combien un homme vaut mieux qu’une brebis? Il est donc permis de faire le bien les jours de sabbat.
13 Then he told the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out; and it was restored whole, just like the other.
Alors il dit à cet homme: Etends ta main. Il retendit, et elle devint saine comme l’autre.
14 But the Pharisees went out and conspired against him, how they might destroy him.
Cependant les Pharisiens étant sortis tinrent conseil contre lui comment ils le perdraient.
15 Jesus, perceiving that, withdrew from there. Great multitudes followed him; and he healed them all,
Mais Jésus, le sachant, partit de là, et beaucoup le suivirent et il les guérit tous.
16 and commanded them that they should not make him known,
Et il leur ordonna de ne point le révéler.
17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
Afin que fût accomplie la parole du prophète Isaïe, disant:
18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit on him. He will proclaim justice to the nations.
Voici mon serviteur que j’ai choisi, l’objet de ma dilection, en qui mon âme a mis toutes ses complaisances. Je ferai reposer mon esprit sur lui, et il annoncera la justice aux nations.
19 He will not strive, nor shout, neither will anyone hear his voice in the streets.
Il ne disputera point, il ne criera point, et personne n’entendra sa voix dans les places publiques.
20 He won’t break a bruised reed. He won’t quench a smoking flax, until he leads justice to victory.
Il n’achèvera pas de rompre un roseau à demi brisé, et n’éteindra point une mèche encore fumante, jusqu’à ce qu’il assure le triomphe de la justice.
21 In his name, the nations will hope.”
Et les nations espéreront en son nom.
22 Then one possessed by a demon, blind and mute, was brought to him; and he healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw.
Alors on lui présenta un démoniaque, aveugle et muet, et il le guérit, en sorte qu’il parlait et voyait.
23 All the multitudes were amazed, and said, “Can this be the son of David?”
Et tout le peuple, frappé de stupéfaction, disait: N’est-ce point là le Fils de David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This man does not cast out demons except by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons.”
Or, entendant cela, les pharisiens disaient: Celui-ci ne chasse les démons que par Béelzébub, prince des démons.
25 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
Mais, Jésus connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même sera ruiné, et toute ville ou maison divisée contre elle-même ne subsistera pas.
26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?
Que si Satan chasse Satan, il est divisé contre lui-même; comment donc son royaume subsistera-t-il?
27 If I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
Et si moi je chasse les démons par Béelzébub, par qui vos enfants les chassent-ils? C’est pourquoi ils seront eux-mêmes vos juges.
28 But if I by the Spirit of God cast out demons, then God’s Kingdom has come upon you.
Mais si je chasse les démons par l’esprit de Dieu, le royaume de Dieu est donc parvenu jusqu’à vous.
29 Or how can one enter into the house of the strong man and plunder his goods, unless he first bind the strong man? Then he will plunder his house.
D’ailleurs, comment quelqu’un peut-il entrer dans la maison du fort et enlever ce qu’il possède, si auparavant il ne lie le fort? C’est alors qu’il pillera sa maison.
30 “He who is not with me is against me, and he who doesn’t gather with me, scatters.
Qui n’est pas avec moi est contre moi, et qui ne rassemble pas avec moi, disperse.
31 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.
C’est pourquoi je vous dis: Tout péché et tout blasphème sera remis aux hommes; mais le blasphème contre l’Esprit ne sera point remis.
32 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in that which is to come. (aiōn g165)
Et quiconque aura parlé contre le Fils de l’homme, il lui sera remis, mais si quelqu’un a parlé contre l’Esprit-Saint, il ne lui sera remis, ni en ce siècle, ni dans le siècle avenir. (aiōn g165)
33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree corrupt and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit.
Ou estimez l’arbre bon et le fruit bon; ou estimez l’arbre mauvais et le fruit mauvais; car c’est par le fruit qu’on connaît l’arbre.
34 You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
Race de vipères, comment pouvez-vous dire de bonnes choses, puisque vous êtes mauvais? C’est, en effet, de l’abondance du cœur que la bouche parle.
35 The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things.
L’homme bon tire du bon trésor de bonnes choses, et l’homme mauvais tire du mauvais trésor de mauvaises choses.
36 I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
Or je vous dis que toute parole oiseuse que les hommes auront dite ils en rendront compte au jour du jugement.
37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Car c’est par tes paroles que tu seras justifié et par tes paroles que tu seras condamné.
38 Then certain of the scribes and Pharisees answered, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”
Alors quelques-uns des scribes et des pharisiens prirent la parole après lui, disant: Maître, nous voulons voir un miracle de vous.
39 But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, but no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
Jésus, répondant, leur dit: Une génération méchante et adultère demande un miracle, et il ne lui sera donné d’autre miracle que celui du prophète Jonas.
40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Car comme Jonas fut trois jours et trois nuits dans le ventre du poisson, ainsi le Fils de l’homme sera dans le sein de la terre trois jours et trois nuits.
41 The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, someone greater than Jonah is here.
Les Ninivites se lèveront au jugement avec cette génération et la condammeront, parce qu’ils firent pénitence à la prédication de Jonas, et cependant il y a ici plus que Jonas.
42 The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, someone greater than Solomon is here.
La reine du Midi se lèvera au jugement avec cette génération, et la condamnera, parce qu’elle vint des extrémités de la terre écouter la sagesse de Salomon; et cependant il y a ici plus que Salomon.
43 “When an unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he passes through waterless places seeking rest, and doesn’t find it.
Lorsque l’esprit impur est sorti d’un homme, il s’en va errant en des lieux arides, cherchant du repos, et il n’en trouve point.
44 Then he says, ‘I will return into my house from which I came;’ and when he has come back, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order.
Alors il dit: Je retournerai dans ma maison d’où je suis sorti, et y revenant, il la trouve libre, purifiée de ce qui la souillait et ornée.
45 Then he goes and takes with himself seven other spirits more evil than he is, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that man becomes worse than the first. Even so will it be also to this evil generation.”
Alors il va et prend sept autres esprits plus mauvais que lui, et entrant, ils y demeurent; et le dernier état de cet homme est pire que le premier. Ainsi en sera-t-il de cette génération perverse.
46 While he was yet speaking to the multitudes, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, seeking to speak to him.
Lorsqu’il parlait encore au peuple, voilà que sa mère et ses frères étaient dehors, cherchant à lui parler.
47 One said to him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to you.”
Quelqu’un lui dit: Voilà votre mère et vos frères qui sont dehors et qui vous cherchent.
48 But he answered him who spoke to him, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
Mais, répondant à celui qui lui parlait, il dit: Qui est ma mère et qui sont mes frères?
49 He stretched out his hand toward his disciples, and said, “Behold, my mother and my brothers!
Et étendant la main vers ses disciples, il dit: Voici ma mère et mes frères.
50 For whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
Car quiconque fait la volonté de mon Père qui est dans les cieux, celui-là est mon frère et ma sœur et ma mère.
