Leviticus 25
1 Yahweh said to Moses on Mount Sinai,
Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse sur le mont de Sinaï en ces termes:
2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When you come into the land which I give you, then the land shall keep a Sabbath to Yahweh.
Parle aux enfants d'Israël et leur dis: Quand vous serez entrés au pays que je vous donne, la terre chômera un sabbat en l'honneur de l'Éternel.
3 You shall sow your field six years, and you shall prune your vineyard six years, and gather in its fruits;
Six années tu ensemenceras ton champ, tu tailleras ta vigne et tu en feras rentrer les produits;
4 but in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to Yahweh. You shall not sow your field or prune your vineyard.
mais la septième année il y aura un sabbat solennel pour le pays, un sabbat en l'honneur de l'Éternel; tu n'ensemenceras point ton champ et ne tailleras, point ta vigne.
5 What grows of itself in your harvest you shall not reap, and you shall not gather the grapes of your undressed vine. It shall be a year of solemn rest for the land.
Tu ne moissonneras pas le recrû de tes blés et ne vendangeras point les raisins de ta vigne non taillée: ce sera une année de repos pour la terre.
6 The Sabbath of the land shall be for food for you; for yourself, for your servant, for your maid, for your hired servant, and for your stranger, who lives as a foreigner with you.
Et vous aurez l'usage du produit de la terre qui se repose, pour t'en nourrir toi et ton serviteur et ta servante et ton mercenaire et ton étranger qui séjournent chez toi;
7 For your livestock also, and for the animals that are in your land, shall all its increase be for food.
tout son produit servira à la nourriture de ton bétail et des animaux qui peuplent ton pays.
8 “‘You shall count off seven Sabbaths of years, seven times seven years; and there shall be to you the days of seven Sabbaths of years, even forty-nine years.
Puis tu compteras sept années sabbatiques, sept fois sept années: ce qui pour sept années sabbatiques te donnera une période de quarante-neuf années.
9 Then you shall sound the loud trumpet on the tenth day of the seventh month. On the Day of Atonement you shall sound the trumpet throughout all your land.
Et tu sonneras de la trompette le septième mois, le dixième jour du mois; le jour des propitiations vous sonnerez de la trompette dans tout votre pays.
10 You shall make the fiftieth year holy, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee to you; and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family.
Et vous consacrerez ainsi la cinquantième année et vous publierez l'affranchissement dans le pays pour tous ses habitants: ce sera pour vous un Jubilé, chacun de vous rentrant dans sa propriété, et chacun de vous rentrant dans sa famille.
11 That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee to you. In it you shall not sow, neither reap that which grows of itself, nor gather from the undressed vines.
Cette cinquantième année sera pour vous un Jubilé, vous ne sèmerez point et vous ne moissonnerez point son recrû, et ne vendangerez point la vigne alors non taillée.
12 For it is a jubilee; it shall be holy to you. You shall eat of its increase out of the field.
Car c'est un Jubilé; il vous sera sacré, et vous tirerez de vos champs pour votre usage ce qu'ils rendront.
13 “‘In this Year of Jubilee each of you shall return to his property.
Dans cette année du Jubilé, chacun de vous rentrera dans sa propriété.
14 “‘If you sell anything to your neighbor, or buy from your neighbor, you shall not wrong one another.
Et si vous vendez quelque chose à votre prochain ou achetez quelque chose de votre prochain, ne vous molestez pas l'un l'autre.
15 According to the number of years after the Jubilee you shall buy from your neighbor. According to the number of years of the crops he shall sell to you.
Tu compteras les années à partir du Jubilé pour acheter de ton prochain, et il te vendra d'après le nombre des années de récoltes.
16 According to the length of the years you shall increase its price, and according to the shortness of the years you shall diminish its price; for he is selling the number of the crops to you.
Plus il y aura d'années, plus ton prix d'achat sera élevé, et moins il y aura d'années, moindre aussi sera ton prix d'achat; car c'est le nombre des récoltes qu'il te vend.
17 You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God; for I am Yahweh your God.
Qu'aucun de vous ne moleste son prochain, et aie la crainte de ton Dieu; car je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
18 “‘Therefore you shall do my statutes, and keep my ordinances and do them; and you shall dwell in the land in safety.
Exécutez ainsi mes statuts et observez mes lois et les exécutez et vous habiterez votre pays en sécurité.
19 The land shall yield its fruit, and you shall eat your fill, and dwell therein in safety.
Et le pays donnera ses fruits, et vous mangerez à rassasiement, et vous l'habiterez en sécurité.
20 If you said, “What shall we eat the seventh year? Behold, we shall not sow, nor gather in our increase;”
Que si vous dites: Que mangerons-nous la septième année, si nous ne semons pas, et si nous ne récoltons pas nos produits?
21 then I will command my blessing on you in the sixth year, and it shall bear fruit for the three years.
voici, je vous dispenserai ma bénédiction dans la sixième année qui rendra des produits pour trois ans.
22 You shall sow the eighth year, and eat of the fruits from the old store until the ninth year. Until its fruits come in, you shall eat the old store.
Vous sèmerez donc la huitième année vous nourrissant des vieilles récoltes; jusqu'à la neuvième année, en attendant que vous en ayez les récoltes, vous mangerez les vieilles.
23 “‘The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine; for you are strangers and live as foreigners with me.
Le pays ne sera point vendu de manière à être aliéné; car le pays m'appartient, car vous êtes des étrangers et des locataires chez moi.
24 In all the land of your possession you shall grant a redemption for the land.
Et dans tout le pays dont vous aurez la possession, vous accorderez le droit de retrait pour les terres.
25 “‘If your brother becomes poor, and sells some of his possessions, then his kinsman who is next to him shall come, and redeem that which his brother has sold.
Si ton frère réduit à la pauvreté vend quelqu'une de ses possessions, et que se présente son plus proche parent qui a droit de retrait, que celui-ci puisse retraire ce qu'a vendu son frère.
26 If a man has no one to redeem it, and he becomes prosperous and finds sufficient means to redeem it,
Et si quelqu'un n'a personne pour faire le retrait, mais parvient à avoir et à trouver de quoi faire le retrait,
27 then let him reckon the years since its sale, and restore the surplus to the man to whom he sold it; and he shall return to his property.
il supputera les années à partir de sa vente et remboursera l'excédant à celui auquel il aura vendu, et il rentrera par là dans sa propriété.
28 But if he isn’t able to get it back for himself, then what he has sold shall remain in the hand of him who has bought it until the Year of Jubilee. In the Jubilee it shall be released, and he shall return to his property.
Et s'il ne trouve pas de quoi le rembourser, ce qu'il aura vendu restera entre les mains de l'acheteur jusqu'à l'année du Jubilé, époque à laquelle celui-ci se dessaisira et l'autre rentrera dans sa propriété.
29 “‘If a man sells a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may redeem it within a whole year after it has been sold. For a full year he shall have the right of redemption.
Et si quelqu'un vend une maison d'habitation dans une ville murée, le retrait pourra s'en faire jusqu'à la fin de l'année où la vente aura eu lieu; ce sera l'espace de temps accordé pour le retrait.
30 If it isn’t redeemed within the space of a full year, then the house that is in the walled city shall be made sure in perpetuity to him who bought it, throughout his generations. It shall not be released in the Jubilee.
Mais si le retrait n'en est pas opéré avant la fin de l'année complète, la propriété de la maison sise dans une ville murée sera définitivement dévolue à l'acheteur et à ses descendants, et il ne s'en dessaisira pas au Jubilé.
31 But the houses of the villages which have no wall around them shall be accounted for with the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and they shall be released in the Jubilee.
Mais les maisons des villages qui ne sont pas entourés d'un mur, seront considérées comme des champs; l'on pourra en faire le retrait, et au Jubilé elles seront libérées.
32 “‘Nevertheless, in the cities of the Levites, the Levites may redeem the houses in the cities of their possession at any time.
Quant aux villes des Lévites, aux maisons des villes qu'ils posséderont, il y aura pour les Lévites droit perpétuel de retrait.
33 The Levites may redeem the house that was sold, and the city of his possession, and it shall be released in the Jubilee; for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.
Et si un Lévite ne fait pas retrait l'année du Jubilé, ce qu'il aura vendu de la maison et de la ville qu'il possède lui reviendra, car les maisons des villes des Lévites sont leur propriété au milieu des enfants d'Israël.
34 But the field of the pasture lands of their cities may not be sold, for it is their perpetual possession.
Et le terrain qui forme la banlieue de leurs villes ne doit point être vendu; ils en ont la possession perpétuelle.
35 “‘If your brother has become poor, and his hand can’t support himself among you, then you shall uphold him. He shall live with you like an alien and a temporary resident.
Et si ton frère devient pauvre et incapable de travail à côté de toi, soutiens-le, même étranger et d'une autre nation, afin qu'il puisse vivre à côté de toi.
36 Take no interest from him or profit; but fear your God, that your brother may live among you.
Ne tire de lui ni intérêt, ni usure, et aie la crainte de ton Dieu, afin que ton frère puisse vivre à côté de toi.
37 You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit.
Tu ne lui prêteras point ton argent à intérêt, ni tes denrées à usure.
38 I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.
Je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu, qui vous ai tirés du pays d'Egypte pour vous donner le pays de Canaan, pour être votre Dieu.
39 “‘If your brother has grown poor among you, and sells himself to you, you shall not make him to serve as a slave.
Et si ton frère s'appauvrit à côté de toi, et se vend à toi, tu ne lui feras pas faire de service servile;
40 As a hired servant, and as a temporary resident, he shall be with you; he shall serve with you until the Year of Jubilee.
il sera chez toi comme mercenaire et comme étranger; il sera à ton service jusqu'à l'année du Jubilé;
41 Then he shall go out from you, he and his children with him, and shall return to his own family, and to the possession of his fathers.
alors il sortira de chez toi, lui et ses fils avec lui, pour rentrer dans sa famille, pour rentrer dans la propriété de ses pères.
42 For they are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. They shall not be sold as slaves.
Car ce sont mes serviteurs que j'ai tirés du pays d'Egypte; ils ne doivent point être vendus, comme on vend des esclaves.
43 You shall not rule over him with harshness, but shall fear your God.
Ne le gouverne pas avec dureté, mais aie la crainte de ton Dieu.
44 “‘As for your male and your female slaves, whom you may have from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves.
Le serviteur et la servante qu'il t'est permis d'avoir, tu les prendras chez les nations qui t'environnent; c'est chez elles que vous pourrez acheter serviteur et servante.
45 Moreover, of the children of the aliens who live among you, of them you may buy, and of their families who are with you, which they have conceived in your land; and they will be your property.
De même des enfants des étrangers domiciliés chez vous, vous pouvez en acheter ainsi que de leurs familles établies chez vous, qu'ils auront engendrées dans votre pays, et les avoir en propriété,
46 You may make them an inheritance for your children after you, to hold for a possession. Of them you may take your slaves forever, but over your brothers the children of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with harshness.
et les transmettre par héritage à vos fils après vous comme une propriété, et les garder à perpétuité à votre service comme esclaves. Mais ne faites pas entre frères peser une dure autorité sur vos frères, les enfants d'Israël.
47 “‘If an alien or temporary resident with you becomes rich, and your brother beside him has grown poor, and sells himself to the stranger or foreigner living among you, or to a member of the stranger’s family,
Si à côté de toi un étranger ou un homme d'une autre nation parvient à avoir de l'aisance, et que à côté de lui ton frère s'appauvrisse et se vende à un étranger domicilié chez toi, ou au rejeton de la famille d'un étranger,
48 after he is sold he may be redeemed. One of his brothers may redeem him;
on pourra, après qu'il aura été vendu, faire son rachat; c'est à l'un de ses frères à faire son rachat.
49 or his uncle, or his uncle’s son, may redeem him, or any who is a close relative to him of his family may redeem him; or if he has grown rich, he may redeem himself.
Le rachat sera fait soit par son oncle, soit par le fils de son oncle, ou un de ses plus proches consanguins de sa famille; ou bien s'il trouve des ressources, il se rachètera lui-même.
50 He shall reckon with him who bought him from the year that he sold himself to him to the Year of Jubilee. The price of his sale shall be according to the number of years; he shall be with him according to the time of a hired servant.
Et alors il comptera avec son acheteur à partir de l'année où il a été vendu jusqu'à l'année du Jubilé; et son prix de vente se réglera d'après le nombre des années, qui lui seront mises au taux des années d'un mercenaire.
51 If there are yet many years, according to them he shall give back the price of his redemption out of the money that he was bought for.
S'il y a encore un grand nombre d'années, il paiera son rachat en raison de ces années avec l'argent qu'il possède;
52 If there remain but a few years to the year of jubilee, then he shall reckon with him; according to his years of service he shall give back the price of his redemption.
et s'il ne reste que peu d'années jusqu'au Jubilé, on les lui comptera: il paiera son rachat à proportion de ses années.
53 As a servant hired year by year shall he be with him. He shall not rule with harshness over him in your sight.
Il sera chez lui comme un mercenaire à l'année. On ne le gouvernera pas avec dureté sous tes yeux.
54 If he isn’t redeemed by these means, then he shall be released in the Year of Jubilee: he and his children with him.
Et s'il n'est pas racheté de la sorte, il sortira l'année du Jubilé, lui et ses fils avec lui.
55 For to me the children of Israel are servants; they are my servants whom I brought out of the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.
Car les enfants d'Israël me sont des esclaves. Ils sont mes esclaves que j'ai tirés du pays d'Egypte. Je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
