John 8
1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
Mais Jésus s’en alla à la montagne des Oliviers;
2 Now very early in the morning, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down and taught them.
Et dès le point du jour il revint dans le temple, et tout le peuple vint à lui; et, s’étant assis, il les enseignait.
3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the middle,
Cependant les scribes et les pharisiens lui amenèrent une femme surprise en adultère, et la placèrent au milieu,
4 they told him, “Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act.
Puis ils dirent à Jésus: Maître, cette femme vient d’être surprise en adultère.
5 Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. What then do you say about her?”
Or Moïse, dans la loi, nous a ordonné de lapider de telles femmes. Toi donc, que dis-tu?
6 They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.
Or ils disaient cela, le tentant, afin de pouvoir l’accuser. Mais Jésus, se baissant, écrivait du doigt sur la terre.
7 But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her.”
Et comme ils continuaient à l’interroger, il se releva et leur dit: Que celui de vous qui est sans péché jette le premier une pierre contre elle.
8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.
Et se baissant de nouveau, il écrivait sur la terre.
9 They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.
Mais, entendant cela, ils sortaient l’un après l’autre, à commencer par les vieillards. Et Jésus demeura seul avec la femme, qui était au milieu.
10 Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, “Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?”
Alors Jésus, se relevant, lui dit: Femme, où sont ceux qui vous accusaient? Personne ne vous a condamnée?
11 She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”
Elle répondit: Personne, Seigneur. Et Jésus lui dit: Ni moi, je ne vous condamnerai pas: allez, et ne péchez plus.
12 Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Jésus leur parla de nouveau, disant: C’est moi qui suis la lumière du monde: qui me suit ne marche pas dans les ténèbres, mais il aura la lumière de la vie.
13 The Pharisees therefore said to him, “You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”
Alors les pharisiens lui dirent: C’est toi qui rends témoignage de toi-même; ton témoignage n’est pas vrai.
14 Jesus answered them, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don’t know where I came from, or where I am going.
Jésus répondit, et leur dit: Bien que je rende témoignage de moi-même, mon témoignage est vrai; parce que je sais d’où je viens et où je vais, mais vous, vous ne savez ni d’où je viens ni où je vais.
15 You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
Vous, vous jugez selon la chair; moi je ne juge personne;
16 Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.
Et si je juge, mon jugement est vrai, parce que je ne suis pas seul; mais moi et mon Père qui m’a envoyé.
17 It’s also written in your law that the testimony of two people is valid.
Or dans votre loi il est écrit que le témoignage de deux hommes est vrai.
18 I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me.”
C’est moi qui rends témoignage de moi-même; mais il rend aussi témoignage de moi, mon Père qui m’a envoyé.
19 They said therefore to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”
Ils lui disaient donc: Où est ton Père? Jésus répondit: Vous ne connaissez ni moi, ni mon Père: si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez sans doute aussi mon Père.
20 Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
Jésus dit ces paroles, enseignant dans le temple, au lieu où est le trésor: et personne ne se saisit de lui, parce que son heure n’était pas encore venue.
21 Jesus said therefore again to them, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can’t come.”
Jésus leur dit encore: Je m’en vais et vous me chercherez, et vous mourrez dans votre péché. Mais où je vais vous ne pouvez venir.
22 The Jews therefore said, “Will he kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come’?”
Les Juifs disaient donc: Se tuera-t-il lui-même, puisqu’il dit: Où je vais vous ne pouvez venir?
23 He said to them, “You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.
Il leur disait aussi: Vous, vous êtes d’en bas, moi je suis d’en haut. Vous êtes de ce monde, moi je ne suis pas de ce monde.
24 I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”
Je vous ai donc dit que vous mourriez dans vos péchés; car si vous ne me croyez pas ce que je suis, vous mourrez dans votre péché.
25 They said therefore to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
Ils lui dirent donc: Qui es tu? Jésus leur dit: Le principe, moi-même qui vous parle.
26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However, he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world.”
J’ai beaucoup de choses à dire de vous, et à condamner en vous; mais celui qui m’a envoyé est vrai, et moi, ce que j’ai entendu de lui, je le dis au monde.
27 They didn’t understand that he spoke to them about the Father.
Et ils ne comprirent pas qu’il disait que Dieu était son Père.
28 Jesus therefore said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.
Jésus leur dit donc: Quand vous aurez élevé le Fils de l’homme, c’est alors que vous connaîtrez ce que je suis, et que je ne fais rien de moi-même, mais que je parle comme mon Père m’a enseigné;
29 He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn’t left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”
Et celui qui m’a envoyé est avec moi, et il ne m’a pas laissé seul, parce que pour moi je fais toujours ce qui lui plaît.
30 As he spoke these things, many believed in him.
Comme il disait ces choses, beaucoup crurent en lui.
31 Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.
Jésus disait donc à ceux des Juifs qui croyaient en lui: Pour vous, si vous demeurez dans ma parole, vous serez vraiment mes disciples;
32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Et vous connaîtrez la vérité, et la vérité vous rendra libres.
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s offspring, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, ‘You will be made free’?”
Ils lui répondirent: Nous sommes la race d’Abraham, et nous n’avons jamais été esclaves de personne; comment dis-tu, toi: Vous serez libres?
34 Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.
Jésus leur repartit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, quiconque commet le péché est esclave du péché;
Or l’esclave ne demeure point toujours dans la maison; mais le fils y demeure toujours; (aiōn g165)
36 If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
Si donc le fils vous met en liberté, vous serez vraiment libres.
37 I know that you are Abraham’s offspring, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.
Je sais que vous êtes fils d’Abraham; mais vous cherchez à me faire mourir, parce que ma parole ne prend pas en vous.
38 I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father.”
Pour moi, ce que j’ai vu en mon Père, je le dis; et vous, ce que vous avez vu en votre père, vous le faites.
39 They answered him, “Our father is Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.
Ils répliquèrent et lui dirent: Notre père est Abraham. Jésus leur dit: Si vous êtes fils d’Abraham, faites les œuvres d’Abraham.
40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham didn’t do this.
Mais loin de là, vous cherchez à me faire mourir, moi homme qui vous ai dit la vérité que j’ai entendue de Dieu; c’est ce qu’Abraham n’a pas fait.
41 You do the works of your father.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.”
Vous faites les œuvres de votre père. Ils lui répliquèrent donc: Nous ne sommes pas nés de la fornication; nous n’avons qu’un père. Dieu.
42 Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.
Mais Jésus leur repartit: Si Dieu était votre père, certes vous m’aimeriez; car c’est de Dieu que je suis sorti et que je suis venu; ainsi je ne suis point venu de moi-même, mais c’est lui qui m’a envoyé.
43 Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word.
Pourquoi ne connaissez-vous point mon langage? parce que vous ne pouvez pas écouter ma parole.
44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.
Vous avez le diable pour père, et vous voulez accomplir les désirs de votre père. Il a été homicide dès le commencement, et il n’est pas demeuré dans la vérité, parce qu’il n’y a pas de vérité en lui; lorsqu’il parle mensonge, il parle de son propre fonds, parce qu’il est menteur et le Père du mensonge.
45 But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me.
Pour moi, si je dis la vérité, vous ne me croyez point.
46 Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?
Qui de vous me convaincra de péché? Si je vous dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous point?
47 He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don’t hear, because you are not of God.”
Celui qui est de Dieu écoute les paroles de Dieu. Et si vous ne les écoutez point, c’est parce que vous n’êtes point de Dieu.
48 Then the Jews answered him, “Don’t we say well that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?”
Mais les Juifs répondirent et lui dirent: Ne disons-nous pas avec raison que tu es un Samaritain, et qu’un démon est en toi?
49 Jesus answered, “I don’t have a demon, but I honor my Father and you dishonor me.
Jésus repartit: Il n’y a pas de démon en moi; mais j’honore mon Père, et vous, vous me déshonorez.
50 But I don’t seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.
Pour moi, je ne cherche point ma gloire; il est quelqu’un qui la cherchera et qui jugera.
En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: Si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne verra jamais la mort. (aiōn g165)
52 Then the Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’ (aiōn g165)
Mais les Juifs lui dirent: Maintenant nous connaissons qu’il y a un démon en toi. Abraham est mort et les prophètes aussi, et tu dis: Si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne goûtera jamais de la mort. (aiōn g165)
53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?”
Es-tu plus grand que notre père Abraham qui est mort? et les prophètes sont morts aussi? Qui prétends-tu être?
54 Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.
Jésus répondit: Si je me glorifie moi-même, ma gloire n’est rien; c’est mon Père qui me glorifie, lui dont vous dites qu’il est votre Dieu.
55 You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, ‘I don’t know him,’ I would be like you, a liar. But I know him and keep his word.
Et vous ne l’avez pas connu; mais moi je le connais; et si je disais que je ne le connais point, je serais semblable à vous, menteur. Mais je le connais, et je garde sa parole.
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.”
Abraham, votre père, a tressailli pour voir mon jour; il l’a vu, et il s’est réjoui.
57 The Jews therefore said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old! Have you seen Abraham?”
Mais les Juifs lui répliquèrent: Tu n’as pas encore cinquante ans, et tu as vu Abraham?
58 Jesus said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, before Abraham came into existence, I AM.”
Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, avant qu’Abraham eût été fait, je suis.
59 Therefore they took up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, having gone through the middle of them, and so passed by.
Ils prirent donc des pierres pour les lui jeter; mais Jésus se cacha, et sortit du temple.
