John 14
1 “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me.
Euer Herz werde nicht bestürzt. [O. erschüttert; so auch v 27] Ihr glaubet an [And. üb.: Glaubet an] Gott, glaubet auch an mich.
2 In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you.
In dem Hause meines Vaters sind viele Wohnungen; wenn es nicht so wäre, würde ich es euch gesagt haben; denn ich gehe hin, euch eine Stätte zu bereiten.
3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.
Und wenn ich hingehe und euch eine Stätte bereite, so komme ich wieder und werde euch zu mir nehmen, auf daß, wo ich bin, auch ihr seiet.
4 You know where I go, and you know the way.”
Und wo ich hingehe, wisset ihr, und den Weg wisset ihr.
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”
Thomas spricht zu ihm: Herr, wir wissen nicht, wo du hingehst, und wie können wir den Weg wissen?
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben. Niemand kommt zum Vater, als nur durch mich.
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him and have seen him.”
Wenn ihr mich erkannt hättet, so würdet ihr auch meinen Vater erkannt haben; und von jetzt an erkennet ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen.
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Philippus spricht zu ihm: Herr, zeige uns den Vater, und es genügt uns.
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Jesus spricht zu ihm: So lange Zeit bin ich bei euch, und du hast mich nicht erkannt, Philippus? Wer mich gesehen hat, hat den Vater gesehen, und wie sagst du: Zeige uns den Vater?
10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works.
Glaubst du nicht, daß ich in dem Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist? Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, rede ich nicht von mir selbst; der Vater aber, der in mir bleibt, [O. wohnt] er tut die Werke.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Glaubet mir, daß ich in dem Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist; wenn aber nicht, so glaubet mir um der Werke selbst willen.
12 Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father.
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubt, der wird auch die Werke tun, die ich tue, und wird größere als diese tun, weil ich zum Vater gehe.
13 Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Und was irgend ihr bitten werdet in meinem Namen, das werde ich tun, auf daß der Vater verherrlicht werde in dem Sohne.
14 If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it.
Wenn ihr etwas bitten werdet in meinem Namen, so werde ich es tun.
15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
Wenn ihr mich liebet, so haltet meine Gebote;
16 I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: (aiōn g165)
und ich werde den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Sachwalter [O. Fürsprecher, Tröster] geben, daß er bei euch sei in Ewigkeit, (aiōn g165)
17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive, for it doesn’t see him and doesn’t know him. You know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, weil sie ihn nicht sieht noch ihn kennt. Ihr aber kennet ihn, denn er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch sein.
18 I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.
Ich werde euch nicht als Waisen [Eig. verwaist] lassen, ich komme zu euch.
19 Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.
Noch ein Kleines, und die Welt sieht mich nicht mehr; ihr aber sehet mich: Weil ich lebe, werdet auch ihr leben.
20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
An jenem Tage werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich in meinem Vater bin, und ihr in mir und ich in euch.
21 One who has my commandments and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him.”
Wer meine Gebote hat und sie hält, der ist es, der mich liebt; wer aber mich liebt, wird von meinem Vater geliebt werden; und ich werde ihn lieben und mich selbst ihm offenbar machen.
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, what has happened that you are about to reveal yourself to us, and not to the world?”
Judas, nicht der Iskariot, spricht zu ihm: Herr, wie ist es, [Eig. was ist geschehen] daß du dich uns offenbar machen willst, und nicht der Welt?
23 Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn jemand mich liebt, so wird er mein Wort halten, [O. bewahren; so auch v 24] und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm machen. [Eig. bei ihm uns machen]
24 He who doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words. The word which you hear isn’t mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
Wer mich nicht liebt, hält meine Worte nicht; und das Wort, welches ihr höret, ist nicht mein, sondern des Vaters, der mich gesandt hat.
25 “I have said these things to you while still living with you.
Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, während ich bei euch bin. [Eig. bleibe, wohne]
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.
Der Sachwalter [O. Fürsprecher, Tröster] aber, der Heilige Geist, welchen der Vater senden wird in meinem Namen, jener wird euch alles lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe.
27 Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
Frieden lasse ich euch, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch; nicht wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch. Euer Herz werde nicht bestürzt, sei auch nicht furchtsam.
28 You heard how I told you, ‘I am going away, and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced because I said ‘I am going to my Father;’ for the Father is greater than I.
Ihr habt gehört, daß ich euch gesagt habe: Ich gehe hin, und ich komme zu euch. Wenn ihr mich liebtet, so würdet ihr euch freuen, daß ich zum Vater gehe, denn mein Vater ist größer als ich.
29 Now I have told you before it happens so that when it happens, you may believe.
Und jetzt habe ich es euch gesagt, ehe es geschieht, auf daß, wenn es geschieht, ihr glaubet.
30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world comes, and he has nothing in me.
Ich werde nicht mehr vieles mit euch reden, denn der Fürst der Welt kommt und hat nichts in mir;
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father commanded me, even so I do. Arise, let’s go from here.
aber auf daß die Welt erkenne, daß ich den Vater liebe und also tue, wie mir der Vater geboten hat. -Stehet auf, lasset uns von hinnen gehen.
