Jeremiah 31
1 “At that time,” says Yahweh, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”
Dans ce temps-là, dit l'Éternel, je serai le Dieu de toutes les tribus d'Israël, et eux ils seront mon peuple.
2 Yahweh says, “The people who survive the sword found favor in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.”
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Il a trouvé grâce dans le désert, le peuple de ceux qui échappèrent à l'épée; je marche pour le conduire au repos, lui Israël.
3 Yahweh appeared of old to me, saying, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore I have drawn you with loving kindness.
« De loin [dira-t-il] l'Éternel se montre à moi. » Je t'aimai d'un amour éternel; c'est pourquoi je t'ai conservé ma faveur.
4 I will build you again, and you will be built, O virgin of Israel. You will again be adorned with your tambourines, and will go out in the dances of those who make merry.
Je te relèverai encore, et tu seras relevée, Vierge d'Israël; tu te pareras encore de tes cymbales, et tu t'avanceras dans les chœurs des danseurs;
5 Again you will plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria. The planters will plant, and will enjoy its fruit.
tu planteras encore des vignes sur les coteaux de Samarie; les planteurs les planteront et en jouiront;
6 For there will be a day that the watchmen on the hills of Ephraim cry, ‘Arise! Let’s go up to Zion to Yahweh our God.’”
car il y aura un jour auquel les sentinelles s'écrieront sur les montagnes d'Éphraïm: Allons! montons à Sion, vers l'Éternel, notre Dieu!
7 For Yahweh says, “Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations. Publish, praise, and say, ‘Yahweh, save your people, the remnant of Israel!’
Car ainsi parle l'Éternel: Élevez sur Jacob des chants de triomphe, et des acclamations sur le chef des peuples! proclamez, exaltez et dites: Éternel, sauve ton peuple, le reste d'Israël!
8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, along with the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who travails with child together. They will return as a great company.
Voici, Je les ramène de la région du Nord, et les recueille des extrémités de la terre; l'aveugle et le boiteux, la femme enceinte et l'accouchée y seront avec eux; en grande foule ils reviendront ici.
9 They will come with weeping. I will lead them with petitions. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they won’t stumble; for I am a father to Israel. Ephraim is my firstborn.
Ils arrivent pleurant [de joie], et je les ramène élevant leurs prières; je les conduis aux courants des eaux par un chemin uni où ils ne trébucheront pas; car je suis pour Israël un père, et Éphraïm est mon premier-né.
10 “Hear Yahweh’s word, you nations, and declare it in the distant islands. Say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock.’
Nations, écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, et publiez-la dans les îles lointaines, et dites: Celui qui dispersa Israël le recueille, et Il le garde, comme un berger son troupeau.
11 For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.
Car l'Éternel a racheté Jacob, et l'a retiré des mains d'un plus fort que lui.
12 They will come and sing in the height of Zion, and will flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, to the new wine, to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd. Their soul will be as a watered garden. They will not sorrow any more at all.
Et ils viendront, et feront éclater leur joie sur les hauteurs de Sion, et ils accourront vers les biens de l'Éternel, vers le blé et le vin, et l'huile, et le menu bétail, et le gros bétail; et leur âme sera comme un jardin arrosé, et désormais ils n'auront plus de soucis.
13 Then the virgin will rejoice in the dance, the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.
Alors la jeune fille se plaira aux danses, et les jeunes et les vieux tous ensemble; je changerai leur deuil en allégresse, et je les consolerai, et je les réjouirai après leur chagrin;
14 I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people will be satisfied with my goodness,” says Yahweh.
j'inonderai de moelle le cœur des sacrificateurs, et mon peuple aura de mes biens à rassasiement, dit l'Éternel.
15 Yahweh says: “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children. She refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.”
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Une voix retentit en Rama, c'est une complainte, ce sont des larmes amères; Rachel pleure ses fils, elle ne veut pas être consolée de ses fils, parce qu'ils ne sont plus.
16 Yahweh says: “Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded,” says Yahweh. “They will come again from the land of the enemy.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Cesse de mêler des pleurs à ta voix, et de baigner tes yeux de larmes; car il est un salaire pour ton labeur, dit l'Éternel, et ils reviennent du pays de l'ennemi;
17 There is hope for your latter end,” says Yahweh. “Your children will come again to their own territory.
et il est un espoir pour ton avenir, dit l'Éternel, et tes fils rentreront dans leurs frontières.
18 “I have surely heard Ephraim grieving thus, ‘You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as an untrained calf. Turn me, and I will be turned, for you are Yahweh my God.
J'entends, j'entends gémir Éphraïm: « Tu m'as châtié, et je fus châtié, comme le jeune taureau indocile; convertis-moi, et je serai converti, car, ô Éternel, c'est toi qui es mon Dieu!
19 Surely after that I was turned. I repented. After that I was instructed. I struck my thigh. I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.’
Car après m'être converti, je fais pénitence, et après m'être reconnu, je me frappe les flancs; je suis confus et honteux, car je porte l'opprobre de ma jeunesse. »
20 Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I still earnestly remember him. Therefore my heart yearns for him. I will surely have mercy on him,” says Yahweh.
Éphraïm est-il donc pour moi un fils si cher, un enfant si tendrement aimé? Car dès que je parle de lui, son souvenir se renouvelle toujours en moi. C'est ainsi que mon cœur s'émeut pour lui: oui, j'aurai compassion de lui, dit l'Éternel.
21 “Set up road signs. Make guideposts. Set your heart toward the highway, even the way by which you went. Turn again, virgin of Israel. Turn again to these your cities.
Dresse des cippes, élève des poteaux-guides; observe la route, le chemin par où tu t'en vas!…. reviens, Vierge d'Israël, reviens dans ces villes qui sont les tiennes!
22 How long will you go here and there, you backsliding daughter? For Yahweh has created a new thing in the earth: a woman will encompass a man.”
Jusques à quand seras-tu vagabonde, fille rebelle? Car l'Éternel va faire une nouveauté dans le pays; c'est la femme qui veillera à la sûreté de l'homme.
23 Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Yet again they will use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I reverse their captivity: ‘Yahweh bless you, habitation of righteousness, mountain of holiness.’
Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Voici le langage qu'on tiendra désormais dans le pays de Juda et dans ses villes, quand j'aurai ramené leurs captifs: « Que l'Éternel te bénisse, résidence de la justice, montagne sainte! »
24 Judah and all its cities will dwell therein together, the farmers, and those who go about with flocks.
Et là sera le séjour de Juda avec toutes ses villes, des laboureurs et de ceux qui voyagent avec leurs troupeaux;
25 For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.”
car Je restaurerai les cœurs épuisés, et aux cœurs inquiets Je donnerai l'abondance.
26 On this I awakened, and saw; and my sleep was sweet to me.
Puis je me réveillerai, et je regarderai, et mon sommeil aura été doux pour moi.
27 “Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and with the seed of animal.
Voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, où j'ensemencerai la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda d'une semence d'hommes et d'une semence de bestiaux.
28 It will happen that, like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant,” says Yahweh.
Et comme j'ai veillé sur eux pour extirper, et pour ruiner, et pour détruire, et pour perdre, et pour nuire, de même je veillerai sur eux, pour édifier et pour planter, dit l'Éternel.
29 “In those days they will say no more, “‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.’
Dans ces jours-là on ne dira plus: « Les pères ont mangé du verjus, et les dents de leurs fils en furent attaquées; »
30 But everyone will die for his own iniquity. Every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set on edge.
mais chacun mourra pour son propre péché, et c'est celui qui mangera du verjus, dont les dents seront attaquées.
31 “Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah,
Voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, où je ferai avec la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda une alliance nouvelle,
32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, which covenant of mine they broke, although I was a husband to them,” says Yahweh.
non comme l'alliance que je fis avec leurs pères le jour où je les pris par la main pour les tirer du pays d'Egypte: ils rompirent mon alliance, et j'étais leur Souverain, dit l'Éternel!
33 “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says Yahweh: “I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write it in their heart. I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
mais voici l'alliance que je ferai avec la maison d'Israël après ces jours-là, dit l'Éternel: Je mettrai ma loi au dedans d'eux, et je l'écrirai dans leur cœur; et je serai leur Dieu, et ils seront mon peuple;
34 They will no longer each teach his neighbor, and every man teach his brother, saying, ‘Know Yahweh;’ for they will all know me, from their least to their greatest,” says Yahweh, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
et l'on n'aura plus à enseigner son prochain ou son frère en disant: Apprenez à connaître l'Éternel! Car tous ils me connaîtront, du petit au grand, dit l'Éternel; car je pardonnerai leur iniquité, et ne me souviendrai plus de leur péché.
35 Yahweh, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea, so that its waves roar— Yahweh of Armies is his name, says:
Ainsi parle l'Éternel qui a fait le soleil pour être la lumière du jour, les phases de la lune et des astres pour éclairer la nuit, qui soulève la mer, et ses vagues grondent; l'Éternel des armées est son nom:
36 “If these ordinances depart from before me,” says Yahweh, “then the offspring of Israel also will cease from being a nation before me forever.”
Si toutes ces lois font défaut devant moi, dit l'Éternel, la race d'Israël cessera aussi d'être un peuple devant moi à perpétuité.
37 Yahweh says: “If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done,” says Yahweh.
Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Quand on mesurera la hauteur du ciel, et qu'on sondera la profondeur des bases de la terre, alors aussi je rejetterai toute la race d'Israël pour tout ce qu'ils ont fait, dit l'Éternel.
38 “Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that the city will be built to Yahweh from the tower of Hananel to the gate of the corner.
Voici, des jours viennent, dit l'Éternel, où la ville sera relevée à la gloire de l'Éternel, depuis la tour de Hananéel jusqu'à la Porte de l'Angle,
39 The measuring line will go out further straight onward to the hill Gareb, and will turn toward Goah.
et le cordeau s'étendra encore vis-à-vis jusqu'à la colline de Gareb, puis tournera vers Goath.
40 The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields to the brook Kidron, to the corner of the horse gate toward the east, will be holy to Yahweh. It will not be plucked up or thrown down any more forever.”
Et toute la vallée des cadavres et de la cendre, et tous les champs jusqu'au torrent de Cédron, jusqu'à l'angle de la Porte des chevaux à l'orient, seront consacrés à l'Éternel, et ne seront plus jamais ni dévastés, ni détruits.
