James 5
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming on you.
Et maintenant, riches, pleurez, poussant des hurlements à cause des misères qui vous surviendront.
2 Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten.
Vos richesses sont tombées en pourriture, et vos vêtements ont été mangés par les vers.
3 Your gold and your silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be for a testimony against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up your treasure in the last days.
Votre or et votre argent se sont rouillés, et leur rouille rendra témoignage contre vous, et dévorera vos chairs comme un feu. Vous vous êtes amassé des trésors de colère pour les derniers jours.
4 Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies.
Voilà que le salaire des ouvriers qui ont moissonné vos champs, et dont vous les avez frustrés, élève la voix, et leur clameur a pénétré jusqu’au Seigneur Sabaoth.
5 You have lived in luxury on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.
Vous avez vécu sur la terre dans les délices et les voluptés, et vous avez nourri vos cœurs comme en un jour de sacrifice.
6 You have condemned and you have murdered the righteous one. He doesn’t resist you.
Vous avez condamné et tué le Juste, et il ne vous a point résisté.
7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain.
Soyez donc patients, mes frères, jusqu’à l’avènement du Seigneur. Voyez, le laboureur espère recueillir le fruit précieux de la terre, attendant patiemment jusqu’à ce qu’il reçoive ce lui de la première et de l’arrière-saison.
8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
Soyez donc patients, vous aussi, et affermissez vos cœurs; car l’avènement du Seigneur est proche.
9 Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won’t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door.
Ne vous plaignez point les uns des autres, mes frères, afin que vous ne soyez pas condamnés. Voilà que le juge est à la porte.
10 Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
Prenez, mes frères, pour exemple de mort cruelle, de souffrances et de patience, les prophètes qui ont parlé au nom du Seigneur.
11 Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
Voyez, nous appelons heureux ceux qui ont souffert. Vous avez appris la patience de Job, et vu la fin du Seigneur; combien le Seigneur est miséricordieux et clément.
12 But above all things, my brothers, don’t swear—not by heaven, or by the earth, or by any other oath; but let your “yes” be “yes”, and your “no”, “no”, so that you don’t fall into hypocrisy.
Mais avant tout, mes frères, ne jurez ni par le ciel, ni par la terre, et ne faites aucun autre serment que ce soit. Que tout discours soit: Oui, oui; non, non; afin que vous ne tombiez pas sous le jugement.
13 Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises.
Quelqu’un de vous est-il triste? qu’il prie. Est-il content? qu’il chante des cantiques.
14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
Quelqu’un parmi vous est-il malade? qu’il appelle les prêtres de l’Eglise, et qu’ils prient sur lui, l’oignant d’huile au nom du Seigneur;
15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Et la prière de la foi sauvera le malade, et le Seigneur le soulagera, et s’il a des péchés, ils lui seront remis.
16 Confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.
Confessez donc vos péchés l’un à l’autre, et priez les uns pour les autres, afin que vous soyez sauvés; car la prière assidue du juste peut beaucoup.
17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.
Elie était un homme semblable à nous, passible; cependant il pria avec instance qu’il ne plût point sur la terre, et il ne plut pas pendant trois ans et six mois.
18 He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.
Et il pria de nouveau, et le ciel donna de la pluie, et la terre donna son fruit.
19 Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back,
Mes frères, si quelqu’un de vous s’égare de la vérité, et que quelqu’un l’y ramène,
20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
Il doit savoir que celui qui ramènera un pécheur de l’égarement de sa voie, sauvera son âme de la mort, et couvrira une multitude de péchés.
