James 3
1 Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.
Mine bröder, farer icke hvar man efter att vara lärare; vetande att vi dess större dom fåm.
2 For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.
Ty i mång stycke fele vi alle; men den der icke felar uti ett ord, han är en fullkommen man, och kan regera hela lekamen med betsel.
3 Indeed, we put bits into the horses’ mouths so that they may obey us, and we guide their whole body.
Si, vi läggom hästomen betsel i munnen, att de skola lyda oss, och omkastom deras hela kropp.
4 Behold, the ships also, though they are so big and are driven by fierce winds, are yet guided by a very small rudder, wherever the pilot desires.
Si ock skeppen, ehuru stor de äro, och af starkt väder drifvas, varda de dock likväl omvänd med ett litet roder, ehvart rodermannen vill.
5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest!
Så är ock tungan en klen lem, och kommer stor ting åstad; si en liten eld, huru stor skog han upptänder.
6 And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
Och tungan är ock en eld, en verld full med orätt. Så är ock tungan ibland våra lemmar, och besmittar hela lekamen, och upptänder all vår umgängelse, då hon upptänd är af helvete. (Geenna g1067)
7 For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind;
Ty all natur, både djurs, och foglars, och ormars, och deras som i hafvet äro, varder tam, och är tamd af menniskors natur;
8 but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
Men tungan kan ingen menniska tämja, det oroliga onda, full med dödelig förgift.
9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God.
Med henne prise vi Gud, och Fadren; och med henne bannom vi menniskorna, som äro skapade efter Guds liknelse.
10 Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.
Af samma mun går pris och bannor. Det bör icke, mine bröder, så vara.
11 Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water?
Icke gifver en källa af ett hål både sött och bäskt vatten?
12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.
Icke kan fikonträt, mine bröder, bära oljo, eller vinträt fikon? Så kan ock ingen källa salt och sött vatten gifva.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.
Ho är vis och klok ibland eder, han bevise med sin goda umgängelse sina gerningar, uti saktmodighet och visdom.
14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and don’t lie against the truth.
Om I hafven bittert nit och träto uti edart hjerta, berömmer eder icke, och ljuger icke emot sanningen.
15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic.
Ty den visdom är icke ofvanefter kommen, utan är jordisk, mennisklig, och djefvulsk.
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed.
Ty hvar nit och träta är, der är ostadighet och allt ondt.
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
Men den visdom, som ofvanefter är, han är först kysk, och sedan fridsam, saktmodig, låter säga sig, full med barmhertighet och goda frukter, opartisk, oskrymtelig.
18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Men rättfärdighetenes frukt varder sådd i frid, dem som frid hålla.
