1 Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us,

2 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
ya"scaasmaaka. m vi"svaasasyaagresara. h siddhikarttaa caasti ta. m yii"su. m viik. saamahai yata. h sa svasammukhasthitaanandasya praaptyartham apamaana. m tucchiik. rtya kru"sasya yaatanaa. m so. dhavaan ii"svariiyasi. mhaasanasya dak. si. napaar"sve samupavi. s.tavaa. m"sca|
3 For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don’t grow weary, fainting in your souls.
ya. h paapibhi. h svaviruddham etaad. r"sa. m vaipariitya. m so. dhavaan tam aalocayata tena yuuya. m svamana. hsu "sraantaa. h klaantaa"sca na bhavi. syatha|
4 You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.
yuuya. m paapena saha yudhyanto. adyaapi "so. nitavyayaparyyanta. m pratirodha. m naakuruta|
5 You have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him;
tathaa ca putraan pratiiva yu. smaan prati ya upade"sa uktasta. m ki. m vism. rtavanta. h? "pare"sena k. rtaa. m "saasti. m he matputra na tucchaya| tena sa. mbhartsita"scaapi naiva klaamya kadaacana|
6 for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
pare"sa. h priiyate yasmin tasmai "saasti. m dadaati yat| yantu putra. m sa g. rhlaati tameva praharatyapi|"
7 It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline?
yadi yuuya. m "saasti. m sahadhva. m tarhii"svara. h putrairiva yu. smaabhi. h saarddha. m vyavaharati yata. h pitaa yasmai "saasti. m na dadaati taad. r"sa. h putra. h ka. h?
8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not children.
sarvve yasyaa. h "saastera. m"sino bhavanti saa yadi yu. smaaka. m na bhavati tarhi yuuyam aatmajaa na kintu jaarajaa aadhve|
9 Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?
aparam asmaaka. m "saariirikajanmadaataaro. asmaaka. m "saastikaari. no. abhavan te caasmaabhi. h sammaanitaastasmaad ya aatmanaa. m janayitaa vaya. m ki. m tato. adhika. m tasya va"siibhuuya na jiivi. syaama. h?
10 For they indeed for a few days disciplined us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.
te tvalpadinaani yaavat svamano. amataanusaare. na "saasti. m k. rtavanta. h kintve. so. asmaaka. m hitaaya tasya pavitrataayaa a. m"sitvaaya caasmaan "saasti|
11 All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
"saasti"sca varttamaanasamaye kenaapi naanandajanikaa kintu "sokajanikaiva manyate tathaapi ye tayaa viniiyante tebhya. h saa pa"scaat "saantiyukta. m dharmmaphala. m dadaati|
12 Therefore lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees,
ataeva yuuya. m "sithilaan hastaan durbbalaani jaanuuni ca sabalaani kurudhva. m|
13 and make straight paths for your feet, so what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.
yathaa ca durbbalasya sandhisthaana. m na bhajyeta svastha. m ti. s.thet tathaa svacara. naartha. m sarala. m maarga. m nirmmaata|
14 Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord,
apara nca sarvvai. h saartham ekyabhaava. m yacca vinaa parame"svarasya dar"sana. m kenaapi na lapsyate tat pavitratva. m ce. s.tadhva. m|
15 looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you and many be defiled by it,
yathaa ka"scid ii"svarasyaanugrahaat na patet, yathaa ca tiktataayaa muula. m praruhya baadhaajanaka. m na bhavet tena ca bahavo. apavitraa na bhaveyu. h,
16 lest there be any sexually immoral person or profane person, like Esau, who sold his birthright for one meal.
yathaa ca ka"scit lampa. to vaa ekak. rtva aahaaraartha. m sviiyajye. s.thaadhikaaravikretaa ya e. saustadvad adharmmaacaarii na bhavet tathaa saavadhaanaa bhavata|
17 For you know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for a change of mind though he sought it diligently with tears.
yata. h sa e. sau. h pa"scaad aa"siirvvaadaadhikaarii bhavitum icchannapi naanug. rhiita iti yuuya. m jaaniitha, sa caa"srupaatena matyantara. m praarthayamaano. api tadupaaya. m na lebhe|
18 For you have not come to a mountain that might be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, storm,
apara nca sp. r"sya. h parvvata. h prajvalito vahni. h k. r.s. naavar. no megho. andhakaaro jha nbh"sa tuuriivaadya. m vaakyaanaa. m "sabda"sca naite. saa. m sannidhau yuuyam aagataa. h|
19 the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which those who heard it begged that not one more word should be spoken to them,
ta. m "sabda. m "srutvaa "srotaarastaad. r"sa. m sambhaa. sa. na. m yat puna rna jaayate tat praarthitavanta. h|
20 for they could not stand that which was commanded, “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned”.
yata. h pa"surapi yadi dharaadhara. m sp. r"sati tarhi sa paa. saa. naaghaatai rhantavya ityaade"sa. m so. dhu. m te naa"saknuvan|
21 So fearful was the appearance that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.”
tacca dar"sanam eva. m bhayaanaka. m yat muusasokta. m bhiitastraasayukta"scaasmiiti|
22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels,
kintu siiyonparvvato. amare"svarasya nagara. m svargasthayiruu"saalamam ayutaani divyaduutaa. h
23 to the festal gathering and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,
svarge likhitaanaa. m prathamajaataanaam utsava. h samiti"sca sarvve. saa. m vicaaraadhipatirii"svara. h siddhiik. rtadhaarmmikaanaam aatmaano
24 to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel.
nuutananiyamasya madhyastho yii"su. h, apara. m haabilo raktaat "sreya. h pracaaraka. m prok. sa. nasya rakta ncaite. saa. m sannidhau yuuyam aagataa. h|
25 See that you don’t refuse him who speaks. For if they didn’t escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven,
saavadhaanaa bhavata ta. m vaktaara. m naavajaaniita yato heto. h p. rthiviisthita. h sa vaktaa yairavaj naatastai ryadi rak. saa naapraapi tarhi svargiiyavaktu. h paraa"nmukhiibhuuyaasmaabhi. h katha. m rak. saa praapsyate?
26 whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.”
tadaa tasya ravaat p. rthivii kampitaa kintvidaanii. m teneda. m pratij naata. m yathaa, "aha. m punarekak. rtva. h p. rthivii. m kampayi. syaami kevala. m tannahi gaganamapi kampayi. syaami|"
27 This phrase, “Yet once more” signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.
sa ekak. rtva. h "sabdo ni"scalavi. sayaa. naa. m sthitaye nirmmitaanaamiva ca ncalavastuunaa. m sthaanaantariikara. na. m prakaa"sayati|
28 Therefore, receiving a Kingdom that can’t be shaken, let’s have grace, through which we serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,
ataeva ni"scalaraajyapraaptairasmaabhi. h so. anugraha aalambitavyo yena vaya. m saadara. m sabhaya nca tu. s.tijanakaruupe. ne"svara. m sevitu. m "saknuyaama|
29 for our God is a consuming fire.
yato. asmaakam ii"svara. h sa. mhaarako vahni. h|
