Hebrews 11
1 Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.
Der Glaube ist eine Zuversicht auf das, was man erhofft, ein Beweis von Dingen, die man nicht sieht.
2 For by this, the elders obtained approval.
In ihm erhielten auch die Ahnen schon ihr Ruhmeszeugnis.
3 By faith we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible. (aiōn g165)
Im Glauben erkennen wir, daß durch das göttliche Wort das Weltall geordnet ward, also das Sichtbare nicht aus der Erscheinungswelt geworden ist. (aiōn g165)
4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had testimony given to him that he was righteous, God testifying with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.
Im Glauben brachte Abel Gott ein Opfer dar, wertvoller als das des Kain; dafür erhielt er auch das Zeugnis, daß er gerecht sei: ein Zeugnis, das Gott ihm seiner Gaben wegen ausstellte; in ihm redet er noch nach seinem Tode.
5 By faith Enoch was taken away, so that he wouldn’t see death, and he was not found, because God translated him. For he has had testimony given to him that before his translation he had been well pleasing to God.
Im Glauben wurde Henoch entrückt, daß er den Tod nicht sah; er war nicht mehr zu finden, weil ihn Gott entrückt hatte. Denn vor der Entrückung hat er schon das Zeugnis erhalten, daß er Gott wohlgefalle.
6 Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.
Doch ohne Glauben ist es unmöglich, Gott zu gefallen; denn wer Gott naht, muß glauben, daß er ist, und daß er denen, die ihn suchen, ein Vergelter ist.
7 By faith Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared a ship for the saving of his house, through which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
Im Glauben erhielt Noe Kunde von dem, was er noch nicht sah, nahm sich in acht und baute eine Arche zur Rettung seines Hauses; in ihm hat er die Welt verurteilt und ward ein Erbe der Rechtfertigung aus dem Glauben.
8 By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went.
Im Glauben gehorchte Abraham dem Ruf, in ein Land zu ziehen, das er als Erbe erhalten sollte, und so zog er aus und wußte nicht, wohin er käme.
9 By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.
Im Glauben siedelte er sich im Lande der Verheißung an wie in einem fremden und wohnte in Zelten mit Isaak und Jakob, den Miterben derselben Verheißung.
10 For he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Er wartete ja auf die Stadt mit festen Grundmauern, deren Baumeister und Gründer Gott ist.
11 By faith even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised.
Im Glauben erhielt Sara noch die Kraft zum Mutterwerden trotz ihres holten Alters, weil sie den für treu hielt, der die Verheißung gegeben hatte.
12 Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.
Darum wurden sie auch von dem einen und dazu Erstorbenen erzeugt so zahlreich wie die Sterne des Himmels, unzählbar wie der Sand am Meeresstrand.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Im Glauben starben diese alle, ohne daß sie die verheißenen Güter schon erlangt hätten. Sie hatten sie aus weiter Ferne nur gesehen und begrüßt und so bekannt, daß sie nur Pilgrime und Fremdlinge auf Erden seien.
14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.
Denn die so sprechen, zeigen, daß sie eine Heimat suchen.
15 If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.
Hätten sie dabei an das Land gedacht, aus dem sie ausgezogen waren, so hätten sie die Möglichkeit gehabt, dorthin zurückzukehren.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
So aber trachten sie nach einem besseren, das heißt nach dem himmlischen. Darum scheut sich Gott auch nicht, sich ihren Gott nennen zu lassen; er hat ja ihnen eine Stadt bereitet.
17 By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his only born son,
Im Glauben brachte Abraham, als er erprobt werden sollte, den Isaak als Opfer dar; er wollte seinen einzigen Sohn darbringen; er, der doch die Verheißung empfangen hatte,
18 to whom it was said, “Your offspring will be accounted as from Isaac,”
als zu ihm gesprochen ward: "Du sollst in Isaak Nachkommen erhalten."
19 concluding that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from the dead.
Er dachte eben: "Gott kann sogar Tote wieder auferwecken", und so erhielt er ihn zugleich als Sinnbild wiederum zurück.
20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even concerning things to come.
Im Glauben segnete Isaak den Jakob und den Esau auch für die künftigen Zeiten.
21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.
Im Glauben segnete der sterbende Jakob die beiden Söhne Josephs und betete, gestützt auf die Spitze seines Stabes.
22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones.
Im Glauben dachte Joseph noch beim Sterben an den Auszug der Kinder Israels und gab Anweisung über seine Gebeine.
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.
Im Glauben ward nach der Geburt Moses von seinen Eltern noch drei Monate lang verborgen gehalten; sie sahen nämlich, daß das Kind lieblich war, und fürchteten den Befehl des Königs nicht.
24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,
Im Glauben lehnte Moses, als er schon erwachsen war, es ab, sich Sohn der Tochter Pharaos nennen zu lassen.
25 choosing rather to share ill treatment with God’s people than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time,
Er wollte lieber mit dem Volke Gottes Leid ertragen, als nur vorübergehenden Genuß von Sünde haben.
26 considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he looked to the reward.
So hielt er die Schmach Christi für einen größeren Reichtum als Ägyptens Schätze. Er blickte ja auf die Vergeltung hin.
27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
Im Glauben verließ er das Ägypterland und fürchtete den Zorn des Königs nicht. Und standhaft hielt er aus, als hätte er den Unsichtbaren sichtbar vor Augen.
28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.
Im Glauben hielt er das Pascha und ordnete das Blutbestreichen an, damit der Würgengel nicht ihre Erstgeburt vernichte.
29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as on dry land. When the Egyptians tried to do so, they were swallowed up.
Im Glauben durchschritten sie das Rote Meer wie trockenes Land, während die Ägypter beim gleichen Versuche verschlungen wurden.
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days.
Im Glauben stürzten auch die Mauern Jerichos zusammen, nachdem man an sieben Tagen um sie herumgezogen war.
31 By faith Rahab the prostitute didn’t perish with those who were disobedient, having received the spies in peace.
Im Glauben kam die Dirne Rahab nicht mit jenen Unfolgsamen um, weil sie die Kundschafter friedlich aufgenommen hatte.
32 What more shall I say? For the time would fail me if I told of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets—
Doch wozu soll ich noch weiter reden? Es fehlt mir die Zeit, um alles durchzugehen von Gedeon und Barak, Samson und Jephte, von David, Samuel und den Propheten.
33 who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
Im Glauben rangen diese Königreiche nieder, schufen Recht, erlangten Verheißungen; sie schlossen Löwenrachen,
34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, grew mighty in war, and caused foreign armies to flee.
löschten Feuersgluten aus, entgingen der Schärfe des Schwertes. Aus Schwachheit kamen sie zu Kraft und wurden Helden im Kampf und brachten fremde Heere zum Weichen.
35 Women received their dead by resurrection. Others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
Frauen erhielten ihre Toten durch die Wiederaufweckung zurück. Andere wurden gemartert und wollten nichts von der Freilassung wissen, um eine wundervollere Auferstehung zu erlangen.
36 Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.
Und wieder andere mußten Spott und Geißelung verkosten, andere Ketten und Gefängnis.
37 They were stoned. They were sawn apart. They were tempted. They were slain with the sword. They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated—
Sie wurden gesteinigt und gefoltert und zersägt, durchs Schwert getötet; in Schaf- und Ziegenfellen zogen sie umher, in Not, bedrängt, mißhandelt.
38 of whom the world was not worthy—wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.
Die Welt war ihrer nicht wert. In Einöden und im Gebirge irrten sie umher, in Höhlen und in Erdklüften.
39 These all, having been commended for their faith, didn’t receive the promise,
Und doch, sie alle, obwohl so große Glaubenszeugen, erlangten die verheißenen Güter nicht.
40 God having provided some better thing concerning us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
Gott hatte noch etwas Herrlicheres für uns vorgesehen: jene sollten nicht ohne uns zur Vollendung kommen.
