Hebrews 10
1 For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near.
Car la loi n’ayant que l’ombre des biens futurs, et non l’image même des choses, ne peut jamais, par les mêmes hosties qui s’offrent continuellement chaque année, rendre parfaits ceux qui s’approchent de l’autel,
2 Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins?
Autrement on aurait cessé de les offrir, puisque, une fois purifiés, ceux qui rendent ce culte n’auraient plus la conscience du péché;
3 But in those sacrifices there is a yearly reminder of sins.
Cependant chaque année on y fait mention des péchés.
4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.
Parce qu’en effet, il est impossible que les péchés soient effacés par du sang de taureaux et de boucs.
5 Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, “You didn’t desire sacrifice and offering, but you prepared a body for me.
C’est pourquoi, en entrant dans le monde, il dit: Vous n’avez pas voulu d’hostie ni d’oblation, mais vous m’avez formé un corps.
6 You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin.
Les holocaustes pour le péché ne vous ont pas plu:
7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O God.’”
Alors j’ai dit: Me voici; je viens (c’est écrit de moi en tête du livre) pour faire, ô Dieu, votre volonté.
8 Previously saying, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them” (those which are offered according to the law),
Ayant dit d’abord: Vous n’avez voulu ni d’hosties, ni d’oblations, ni d’holocaustes pour le péché; et ce qu’on offre selon la loi ne vous a point plu;
9 then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second,
J’ai dit ensuite: Me voici, je viens pour faire, ô Dieu! votre volonté; il abolit ainsi le premier sacrifice, pour établir le second.
10 by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
C’est en vertu de cette volonté que nous avons été sanctifiés par l’oblation du corps de Jésus-Christ faite une seule fois.
11 Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and offering often the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins,
À la vérité, tout prêtre se présente chaque jour pour accomplir son ministère et offrir souvent les mêmes hosties, qui ne peuvent jamais ôter les péchés;
12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God,
Mais celui-ci ayant offert une seule hostie pour les péchés, est assis pour toujours à la droite de Dieu,
13 from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet.
Attendant, pour le reste, que ses ennemis soient posés en escabeau sous ses pieds.
14 For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
Car, par une seule oblation, il a rendu parfaits à jamais ceux qui ont été sanctifiés.
15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,
C’est ce que nous atteste l’Esprit-Saint lui-même; puisqu’après avoir dit:
16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days,” says the Lord, “I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;” then he says,
Voici l’alliance que je ferai avec eux après ces jours-là, dit le Seigneur: Je mettrai mes lois dans leur cœur, et je les écrirai dans leur esprit.
17 “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.”
Il ajoute: Et je ne me souviendrai plus de leurs péchés, ni de leurs iniquités.
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Or là où il y a rémission des péchés, il n’y a plus d’oblation pour le péché.
19 Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
Ainsi, mes frères, ayant l’assurance d’entrer dans le sanctuaire par le sang du Christ,
20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh,
Voie nouvelle et vivante, qu’il nous a ouverte à travers le voile, c’est-à-dire sa chair,
21 and having a great priest over God’s house,
Et un grand prêtre préposé sur la maison de Dieu,
22 let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and having our body washed with pure water,
Approchons-nous avec un cœur sincère dans la plénitude de la foi, le cœur purifié, par l’aspersion, des souillures d’une mauvaise conscience, et le corps lavé d’une eau pure;
23 let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.
Conservant inébranlable la confession de notre espérance (car il est fidèle celui qui a promis),
24 Let’s consider how to provoke one another to love and good works,
Et considérons-nous les uns les autres, pour nous exciter à la charité et aux bonnes œuvres;
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
N’abandonnant point nos assemblées, comme quelques-uns en ont pris la coutume, mais nous consolant d’autant plus que vous voyez que le jour approche.
26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins,
Car si nous péchons volontairement après avoir reçu la connaissance de la vérité, il ne nous reste plus d’hostie pour expier les péchés,
27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.
Mais l’attente terrible d’un jugement et l’ardeur d’un feu qui doit dévorer les ennemis.
28 A man who disregards Moses’ law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses.
Celui qui viole la loi de Moïse, meurt sans aucune miséricorde, sur la déposition de deux ou trois témoins.
29 How much worse punishment do you think he will be judged worthy of who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Combien donc pensez-vous que mérite de plus affreux supplices celui qui aura foulé aux pieds le Fils de Dieu, tenu pour profane le sang de l’alliance, par lequel il a été sanctifié, et fait outrage à l’esprit de la grâce?
30 For we know him who said, “Vengeance belongs to me. I will repay,” says the Lord. Again, “The Lord will judge his people.”
Car nous savons qui a dit: À moi est la vengeance, et c’est moi qui ferai la rétribution. Et encore: Le Seigneur jugera son peuple.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Il est terrible de tomber aux mains du Dieu vivant.
32 But remember the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings:
Or souvenez-vous des anciens jours, où après avoir été éclairés, vous avez soutenu le grand combat des souffrances;
33 partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions, and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so.
D’une part, donnés en spectacle d’opprobres et de tribulations; et de l’autre devenus les compagnons de ceux qui ont été ainsi traités.
34 For you both had compassion on me in my chains and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens.
Car vous avez compati à ceux qui étaient dans les liens, et vous avez supporté avec joie l’enlèvement de vos biens, sachant que vous avez une meilleure et durable richesse.
35 Therefore don’t throw away your boldness, which has a great reward.
Ne perdez donc pas votre confiance, laquelle a une grande récompense.
36 For you need endurance so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise.
Car la patience vous est nécessaire, afin que, faisant la volonté de Dieu, vous obteniez l’effet de la promesse.
37 “In a very little while, he who comes will come and will not wait.
Encore un peu de temps, et celui qui doit venir viendra, et il ne tardera point.
38 But the righteous one will live by faith. If he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”
Or le juste qui m’appartient vit de la foi; que s’il se retire, il ne plaira plus à mon âme.
39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul.
Pour nous, nous ne sommes pas les fils de la défection, pour la perdition, mais de la foi pour l’acquisition de l’âme.
