Galatians 2
1 Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me.
চোদ্দো বছর পরে, আমি আবার জেরুশালেমে গেলাম; এসময় সঙ্গে ছিলেন বার্ণবা। আমি তীতকেও সঙ্গে নিলাম।
2 I went up by revelation, and I laid before them the Good News which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.
ঈশ্বরের ইচ্ছা প্রকাশিত হওয়ার আগে আমি সেখানে গিয়েছিলাম ও যে সুসমাচার আমি অইহুদি জাতিদের কাছে প্রচার করি, তা তাঁদের সামনে বললাম। কিন্তু এ কাজ আমি গোপনে, যাঁদের নেতৃস্থানীয় বলে আমার মনে হয়েছিল, তাঁদের কাছে করলাম, কারণ ভয় হচ্ছিল, আমি হয়তো অনর্থক পরিশ্রম করেছি বা করছি।
3 But not even Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.
এমনকি, আমার সঙ্গী তীত, যিনি জাতিতে গ্রিক ছিলেন, তাঁকেও সুন্নত করতে বাধ্য করা হয়নি।
4 This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage,
কারণ খ্রীষ্ট যীশুতে আমরা যে স্বাধীনতা ভোগ করি, তার উপরে গুপ্তচরবৃত্তির জন্য ও আমাদের ক্রীতদাসে পরিণত করার জন্য কয়েকজন ভণ্ড ভাই আমাদের মধ্যে অনুপ্রবেশ করেছিল।
5 to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that the truth of the Good News might continue with you.
আমরা এক মুহূর্তের জন্যও তাদের বশ্যতাস্বীকার করলাম না, যেন সুসমাচারের সত্য তোমাদের জন্য রক্ষা করতে পারি।
6 But from those who were reputed to be important—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn’t show partiality to man—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,
আর যাদের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বলে মনে হয়েছিল—তারা যেই হোন না কেন, আমার কিছু আসে-যায় না; ঈশ্বর বাহ্যিক রূপ দেখে বিচার করেন না—সেই ব্যক্তিরা আমার বার্তার সঙ্গে অতিরিক্ত কিছুই যোগ করেননি।
7 but to the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the Good News for the uncircumcised, even as Peter with the Good News for the circumcised—
এর বিপরীতে, তারা দেখলেন যে, পিতরকে যেমন ইহুদিদের কাছে, তেমনই আমাকে অইহুদি জাতিদের কাছে সুসমাচার প্রচার করার দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে।
8 for he who worked through Peter in the apostleship with the circumcised also worked through me with the Gentiles—
কারণ ঈশ্বর, যিনি ইহুদিদের কাছে প্রেরিতশিষ্যরূপে কাজ করার জন্য পিতরের পরিচর্যায় সক্রিয় ছিলেন, তিনি অইহুদি জাতিদের কাছে প্রেরিতশিষ্যরূপে কাজ করার জন্য আমার পরিচর্যাতেও সক্রিয় ছিলেন।
9 and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, those who were reputed to be pillars, gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcision.
যাকোব, পিতর ও যোহন—যাঁরা মণ্ডলীর স্তম্ভরূপে খ্যাত ছিলেন—তাঁরা আমাকে দেওয়া এই অনুগ্রহ উপলব্ধি করে আমার ও বার্ণবার হাতে হাত মিলিয়ে সহকর্মীরূপে আমাদের গ্রহণ করলেন। তাঁরা সম্মত হলেন যে, অইহুদিদের কাছে আমাদের যাওয়া উচিত ও তাঁদের উচিত ইহুদিদের কাছে যাওয়া।
10 They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do.
তাঁরা শুধু চাইলেন, আমরা যেন নিয়ত দরিদ্রদের কথা স্মরণে রাখি, যে কাজ করার জন্য আমিও আগ্রহী ছিলাম।
11 But when Peter came to Antioch, I resisted him to his face, because he stood condemned.
পিতর যখন আন্তিয়খে এলেন, আমি মুখের উপর তাঁর প্রতিবাদ করলাম, কারণ স্পষ্টতই তিনি উচিত কাজ করেননি।
12 For before some people came from James, he ate with the Gentiles. But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.
যাকোবের কাছ থেকে কিছু লোক আসার আগে তিনি অইহুদিদের সঙ্গে আহার করতেন; কিন্তু তারা উপস্থিত হলে তিনি পিছিয়ে গেলেন ও অইহুদিদের কাছ থেকে নিজেকে পৃথক করতে লাগলেন, কারণ যারা সুন্নতপ্রাপ্ত ছিল, তিনি তাদের ভয় পেতেন।
13 And the rest of the Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.
অন্য সব ইহুদিরাও তাঁর এই ভণ্ডামিতে যোগ দিল, এমনকি, তাঁদের ভণ্ড আচরণে বার্ণবাও ভুল পথে পা বাড়িয়েছিলেন।
14 But when I saw that they didn’t walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do, and not as the Jews do, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as the Jews do?
আমি যখন দেখলাম, তাঁরা সুসমাচারের সত্য অনুযায়ী কাজ করছেন না, আমি তাঁদের সকলের সামনে পিতরকে বললাম, “তুমি একজন ইহুদি, তবুও তুমি ইহুদির মতো নয় বরং একজন অইহুদির মতো জীবনযাপন করছ। তাহলে, এ কী রকম যে, তুমি অইহুদিদের বাধ্য করছ ইহুদি রীতিনীতি পালন করতে?
15 “We, being Jews by nature and not Gentile sinners,
“আমরা, যারা জন্মসূত্রে ইহুদি, কিন্তু ‘অইহুদি পাপী’ নই,
16 yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.
আমরা জানি যে, বিধান পালন করে কোনো মানুষ নির্দোষ প্রতিপন্ন হয় না, কিন্তু হয় যীশু খ্রীষ্টের উপর বিশ্বাস দ্বারা। তাই আমরাও খ্রীষ্ট যীশুতে আমাদের বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করেছি, যেন আমরা খ্রীষ্টের উপর বিশ্বাস দ্বারা নির্দোষ প্রতিপন্ন হতে পারি, বিধান পালনের দ্বারা নয়, কারণ বিধান পালনের দ্বারা কেউই নির্দোষ প্রতিপন্ন হবে না।
17 But if while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not!
“যদি খ্রীষ্টে নির্দোষ বলে গণ্য হওয়ার প্রচেষ্টায় আমরাও যদি পাপী বলে প্রতিপন্ন হয়ে থাকি, তবে কি ধরে নিতে হবে যে খ্রীষ্ট পাপের সহায়ক? অবশ্যই নয়!
18 For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker.
যদি আমি যা ধ্বংস করেছি, তাই আবার তৈরি করি, আমি নিজেকে আইনভঙ্গকারী বলেই প্রমাণ করি।
19 For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God.
“কারণ বিধানের মাধ্যমে বিধানের প্রতি আমি মৃত্যুবরণ করেছি, যেন আমি ঈশ্বরের জন্য বেঁচে থাকতে পারি। আমি খ্রীষ্টের সঙ্গে ক্রুশবিদ্ধ হয়েছি।
20 I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.
আমি আর জীবিত নেই, কিন্তু খ্রীষ্টই আমার মধ্যে জীবিত আছেন। আর এই শরীরে আমি যে জীবনযাপন করছি, তা আমি ঈশ্বরের পুত্রের উপর বিশ্বাস দ্বারাই যাপন করছি; তিনি আমাকে প্রেম করেছেন ও আমার জন্য নিজেকে প্রদান করেছেন।
21 I don’t reject the grace of God. For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing!”
আমি ঈশ্বরের অনুগ্রহ অগ্রাহ্য করতে পারি না, কারণ যদি বিধান দ্বারা ধার্মিকতা লাভ করা যায়, তাহলে বৃথাই খ্রীষ্ট মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন!”
