Acts 6

1 Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.

Lúc ấy, số tín hữu càng gia tăng nhanh chóng. Các tín hữu nói tiếng Hy Lạp than phiền những tín hữu nói tiếng Hê-bơ-rơ vì các quả phụ trong nhóm họ không được cấp phát thực phẩm đầy đủ.

2 The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.

Mười hai sứ đồ triệu tập toàn thể tín hữu và tuyên bố: “Chúng tôi không thể bỏ việc giảng dạy lời của Đức Chúa Trời để lo phân phối lương thực.

3 Therefore, select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Vậy xin anh em cử bảy người được tiếng khen, đầy dẫy Chúa Thánh Linh và khôn ngoan để chúng tôi ủy thác việc này.

4 But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.”

Còn chúng tôi sẽ chuyên lo cầu nguyện và truyền giảng Đạo Chúa.”

5 These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,

Đề nghị này được toàn thể tín hữu chấp thuận. Họ chọn Ê-tiên (một người đầy đức tin và Chúa Thánh Linh), Phi-líp, Bô-cô-rơ, Ni-ca-nô, Ti-môn, Ba-mê-na, và Ni-cô-la là người An-ti-ốt (mới theo Do Thái giáo).

6 whom they set before the apostles. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

Bảy người này trình diện và được các sứ đồ đặt tay cầu nguyện.

7 The word of God increased and the number of the disciples greatly multiplied in Jerusalem. A great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Đạo của Đức Chúa Trời phát triển mạnh. Số tín hữu tại Giê-ru-sa-lem ngày càng gia tăng đông đảo, cũng có nhiều thầy tế lễ Do Thái theo Đạo nữa.

8 Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.

Ê-tiên, một người đầy ơn và quyền năng của Đức Chúa Trời, làm nhiều việc kỳ diệu và phép lạ vĩ đại giữa dân chúng.

9 But some of those who were of the synagogue called “The Libertines”, and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.

Một số người Do Thái thuộc Hội Đồng của Các Nô Lệ Được Trả Tự Do hợp với người Do Thái ở Ly-bi, A-léc-xan-ri-a, Si-li-si, và Tiểu Á, nổi lên tranh luận với Ê-tiên.

10 They weren’t able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

Nhưng họ không thể đấu trí với ông hoặc chống lại Chúa Thánh Linh là Đấng hướng dẫn ông.

11 Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”

Vì vậy, họ ngầm xúi giục mấy người khác phao tin: “Chúng tôi có nghe người này xúc phạm Môi-se và Đức Chúa Trời.”

12 They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, then brought him in to the council,

Họ sách động quần chúng, xúi giục các trưởng lão, các thầy dạy luật, rồi xông vào bắt Ê-tiên giải đến trước Hội Đồng Quốc Gia.

13 and set up false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.

Những nhân chứng khai gian: “Người này luôn luôn xúc phạm Đền Thờ thánh và chống lại luật Môi-se.

14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”

Chúng tôi nghe họ nói Giê-xu người Na-xa-rét sẽ phá hủy Đền Thờ và thay đổi luật lệ Môi-se đã truyền dạy.”

15 All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.

Mọi người trong Hội Đồng Quốc Gia chăm chú nhìn Ê-tiên, vì thấy gương mặt ông sáng rực như diện mạo thiên sứ.
