Acts 11
1 Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.
Les apôtres et les frères, qui étaient en Judée, apprirent que les païens avaient aussi reçu la parole de Dieu.
2 When Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision contended with him,
Et lorsque Pierre fut monté à Jérusalem, les fidèles circoncis lui adressèrent des reproches.
3 saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”
Ils lui disaient: Tu es entré chez des incirconcis, et tu as mangé avec eux!
4 But Peter began, and explained to them in order, saying,
Mais Pierre se mit à leur raconter, d'une manière suivie, ce qui s'était passé.
5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision: a certain container descending, like it was a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners. It came as far as me.
J'étais — leur dit-il — en prière dans la ville de Joppé, lorsque je fus ravi en extase. J'eus une vision: un objet, semblable à une grande nappe retenue aux quatre coins, descendait du ciel; et il vint jusqu'à moi.
6 When I had looked intently at it, I considered, and saw the four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky.
Je l'examinai attentivement, et j'y vis les quadrupèdes de la terre, les bêtes sauvages, les reptiles, et les oiseaux du ciel.
7 I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter, kill and eat!’
Puis j'entendis une voix qui me disait: Pierre, lève-toi, tue et mange.
8 But I said, ‘Not so, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.’
Je répondis: Non, Seigneur; car jamais rien de souillé ni d'impur n'est entré dans ma bouche.
9 But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, don’t you call unclean.’
La voix me parla du ciel une seconde fois, et me dit: Ne regarde pas comme souillé ce que Dieu a purifié.
10 This was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.
Cette vision se répéta par trois fois, puis tout fut retiré dans le ciel.
11 Behold, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me.
Et voilà qu'au même instant, trois hommes qui m'avaient été envoyés de Césarée, se présentèrent à la porte de la maison où j'étais.
12 The Spirit told me to go with them without discriminating. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house.
Alors l'Esprit me dit d'aller avec eux, sans hésiter. Les six frères que voici vinrent également avec moi, et nous entrâmes dans la maison de Corneille.
13 He told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house and saying to him, ‘Send to Joppa and get Simon, who is called Peter,
Celui-ci nous raconta comment il avait vu, dans sa maison, un ange qui s'était présenté à lui et lui avait dit: envoie à Joppé, et fais venir Simon, surnommé Pierre;
14 who will speak to you words by which you will be saved, you and all your house.’
il t'annoncera des choses qui seront le salut pour toi et toute ta maison.
15 As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.
Quand j'eus commencé à parler, le Saint-Esprit descendit sur eux, comme il était descendu sur nous au commencement.
16 I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’
Alors je me souvins de la parole prononcée par le Seigneur: Jean a baptisé d'eau; mais vous serez baptisés du Saint-Esprit.
17 If then God gave to them the same gift as us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?”
Si donc Dieu leur a fait le même don qu'à nous, qui avons cru au Seigneur Jésus-Christ, qui étais-je, moi, pour m'opposer à Dieu?
18 When they heard these things, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life!”
Après avoir entendu ces paroles, ils s'apaisèrent et glorifièrent Dieu, en disant: Dieu a donc accordé aussi aux Païens la repentance, afin qu'ils aient la vie!
19 They therefore who were scattered abroad by the oppression that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews only.
Ceux qui avaient été dispersés par la persécution, survenue à l'occasion d'Etienne, allèrent jusqu'en Phénicie, dans l'île de Chypre et à Antioche, n'annonçant la parole qu'aux Juifs seulement.
20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.
Mais quelques-uns d'entre eux, qui étaient de Chypre et de Cyrène, étant venus à Antioche, parlèrent aussi aux Grecs, leur annonçant l'Évangile du Seigneur Jésus.
21 The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.
La main du Seigneur était avec eux, et grand fut le nombre de ceux qui crurent et se convertirent au Seigneur.
22 The report concerning them came to the ears of the assembly which was in Jerusalem. They sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch,
Le bruit en vint aux oreilles de l'Église de Jérusalem; et on envoya Barnabas jusqu'à Antioche.
23 who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain near to the Lord.
Quand il fut arrivé et qu'il eut vu la grâce accordée par Dieu, il se réjouit, et il les exhorta tous à rester attachés d'un coeur ferme au Seigneur;
24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and many people were added to the Lord.
car c'était un homme de bien, plein du Saint-Esprit et de foi. Alors un grand nombre de personnes se joignirent au Seigneur.
25 Barnabas went out to Tarsus to look for Saul.
Barnabas alla ensuite à Tarse, pour chercher Saul, et, l'ayant trouvé, il l'amena à Antioche.
26 When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Pendant toute une année, ils assistèrent aux assemblées de l'Église, et ils instruisirent un grand nombre de personnes. Ce fut à Antioche que, pour la première fois, on donna aux disciples le nom de chrétiens.
27 Now in these days, prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
En ces jours-là, des prophètes descendirent de Jérusalem à Antioche.
28 One of them named Agabus stood up and indicated by the Spirit that there should be a great famine all over the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius.
L'un d'eux, nommé Agabus, se leva, et il prédit par l'Esprit qu'il y aurait une famine sur toute la terre. Elle survint, en effet, sous le règne de Claude.
29 As any of the disciples had plenty, each determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea;
Les disciples résolurent d'envoyer, chacun selon son pouvoir, un secours aux frères qui habitaient en Judée.
30 which they also did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
C'est ce qu'ils firent: ils l'envoyèrent aux anciens par les mains de Barnabas et de Saul.
