Acts 10
1 Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,
Había en Cesarea un varón de nombre Cornelio, centurión de la cohorte denominada Itálica.
2 a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.
Era piadoso y temeroso de Dios con toda su casa, daba muchas limosnas al pueblo y hacía continua oración a Dios.
3 At about the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, “Cornelius!”
Este vio con toda claridad en una visión, a eso de la hora nona, a un ángel de Dios que entraba a él y le decía: “¡Cornelio!”
4 He, fastening his eyes on him and being frightened, said, “What is it, Lord?” He said to him, “Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God.
Y él, mirándolo fijamente y sobrecogido de temor preguntó: “¿Qué es esto, Señor?” Respondiole: “Tus oraciones y limosnas han subido como recuerdo delante de Dios.
5 Now send men to Joppa, and get Simon, who is also called Peter.
Envía, pues, ahora, algunos hombres a Joppe y haz venir a cierto Simón, por sobrenombre Pedro,
6 He is staying with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the seaside.
que está hospedado en casa de un tal Simón, curtidor, el cual habita cerca del mar”.
7 When the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually.
Cuando hubo partido el ángel que le hablaba, llamó a dos de sus sirvientes y a un soldado piadoso de los que estaban siempre con él,
8 Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
a los cuales explicó todo y los mandó a Joppe.
9 Now on the next day as they were on their journey and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.
Al día siguiente, mientras ellos iban por el camino y se acercaban ya a la ciudad, subió Pedro a la azotea para orar, cerca de la hora sexta.
10 He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.
Teniendo hambre quiso comer, pero mientras le preparaban la comida, le sobrevino un éxtasis.
11 He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,
Vio el cielo abierto y un objeto como lienzo grande, que pendiente de las cuatro puntas bajaba sobre la tierra.
12 in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.
En él se hallaban todos los cuadrúpedos y los reptiles de la tierra y las aves del cielo.
13 A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”
Y oyó una voz:
14 But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”
“Levántate, Pedro, mata y come”. “De ninguna manera, Señor, respondió Pedro, pues jamás he comido cosa común e inmunda”.
15 A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”
Mas se dejó oír la voz por segunda vez: “Lo que Dios ha purificado, no lo declares tú común”.
16 This was done three times, and immediately the thing was received up into heaven.
Esto se repitió por tres veces, e inmediatamente el objeto subió al cielo.
17 Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,
Pedro estaba todavía incierto del significado de la visión que había visto, cuando los hombres enviados por Cornelio, habiendo preguntado por la casa de Simón, se presentaron a la puerta.
18 and called and asked whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.
Llamaron, pues, y preguntaron si se hospedaba allí Simón, por sobrenombre Pedro.
19 While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men seek you.
Este estaba todavía reflexionando sobre la visión, cuando le dijo el Espíritu: “He aquí que tres hombres te buscan.
20 But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”
Levántate, baja y ve con ellos sin reparar en nada, porque soy Yo el que los he enviado”.
21 Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”
Bajó, pues, Pedro hacia los hombres y dijo: “Heme, aquí, soy yo a quien buscáis. ¿Cuál es el motivo de vuestra venida?”
22 They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”
Respondiéronle: “El centurión Cornelio, hombre justo y temeroso de Dios, al cual da testimonio todo el pueblo de los judíos, ha sido advertido divinamente por un santo ángel para hacerte ir a su casa y escuchar de ti palabras”.
23 So he called them in and provided a place to stay. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
Entonces ( Pedro ) los hizo entrar y les dio hospedaje. Al día siguiente se levantó y marchó con ellos, acompañándole algunos de los hermanos que estaban en Joppe.
24 On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.
Y al otro día entró en Cesarea. Cornelio les estaba esperando y había convocado ya a sus parientes y amigos más íntimos.
25 When Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.
Y sucedió que, estando Pedro para entrar, Cornelio le salió al encuentro y postrándose a sus pies hizo adoración.
26 But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”
Mas Pedro le levantó diciendo: “Levántate, porque yo también soy hombre”.
27 As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.
Y conversando con él, entró y encontró muchas personas reunidas, a las cuales dijo:
28 He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.
“Vosotros sabéis cuán ilícito es para un judío juntarse con un extranjero o entrar en su casa; pero Dios me ha enseñado a no declarar común o inmundo a ningún hombre.
29 Therefore I also came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”
Por lo cual al ser llamado he venido sin reparo; pregunto, pues: ¿Cuál es el motivo por el que habéis enviado a llamarme?”
30 Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing
Cornelio respondió: “Cuatro días hace hoy estaba yo orando en mi casa a la hora nona, y he aquí que se me puso delante un hombre en vestidura resplandeciente,
31 and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.
y me dijo: “Cornelio, ha sido oída tu oración, y tus limosnas han sido recordadas delante de Dios.
32 Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is also called Peter. He is staying in the house of a tanner named Simon, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’
Envía a Joppe y haz venir a Simón, por sobrenombre Pedro, el cual está hospedado en casa de Simón, curtidor, cerca del mar”.
33 Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”
Inmediatamente envié por ti, y tú has hecho bien en venir. Ahora, pues, nosotros todos estamos en presencia de Dios para oír todo cuanto el Señor te ha encargado”.
34 Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;
Entonces Pedro, abriendo la boca, dijo: “En verdad conozco que Dios no hace acepción de personas,
35 but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.
sino que en todo pueblo le es acepto el que le teme y obra justicia.
36 The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—
Dios envió su palabra a los hijos de Israel, anunciándoles la paz por Jesucristo, el cual es el Señor de todos.
37 you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
Vosotros no ignoráis las cosas que han acontecido en toda la Judea, comenzando desde Galilea, después del bautismo predicado por Juan:
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
cómo Dios ungió con el Espíritu Santo y poder a Jesús de Nazaret, el cual iba de lugar en lugar, haciendo el bien y sanando a todos los oprimidos por el diablo, porque Dios estaba con Él.
39 We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree.
Nosotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que hizo en el país de los judíos y en Jerusalén ( ese Jesús ), a quien también dieron muerte colgándolo de un madero;
40 God raised him up the third day and gave him to be revealed,
pero Dios le resucitó al tercer día y le dio que se mostrase manifiesto,
41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
no a todo el pueblo, sino a nosotros los testigos predestinados por Dios, los que hemos comido y bebido con Él después de su resurrección de entre los muertos.
42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead.
Él nos mandó predicar al pueblo y dar testimonio de que Este es Aquel que ha sido destinado por Dios a ser juez de los vivos y de los muertos.
43 All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.”
De Este dan testimonio todos los profetas ( diciendo ) que cuantos crean en Él, recibirán remisión de los pecados por su nombre”.
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.
Mientras Pedro pronunciaba aún estas palabras, descendió el Espíritu Santo sobre todos los que oían su discurso.
45 They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.
Quedaron entonces pasmados los fieles de entre los circuncidados, que habían venido con Pedro, porque el don del Espíritu Santo se había derramado también sobre los gentiles.
46 For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,
Pues los oían hablar en lenguas y glorificar a Dios. Por lo cual dijo Pedro:
47 “Can anyone forbid these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just like us.”
“¿Puede alguien prohibir el agua, para que no sean bautizados estos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo como nosotros?”
48 He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay some days.
Mandó, pues, bautizarlos en el nombre de Jesucristo. Después le rogaron que permaneciese algunos días.
