3 John 1
1 The elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.
El Presbítero al amado Gayo, a quien amo yo en verdad.
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.
Carísimo, ruego que en todo prosperes y tengas, salud, así como prospera tu alma.
3 For I rejoiced greatly when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth.
Me alegré grandemente cuando vinieron los hermanos y testimoniaron de ti la verdad, según andas en la verdad.
4 I have no greater joy than this: to hear about my children walking in truth.
No hay para mí gozo mayor que el oír que mis hijos andan en la verdad.
5 Beloved, you do a faithful work in whatever you accomplish for those who are brothers and strangers.
Haces obra de fe en todo cuanto trabajas a favor de los hermanos y los forasteros,
6 They have testified about your love before the assembly. You will do well to send them forward on their journey in a way worthy of God,
los cuales en presencia de la Iglesia dieron testimonio de tu caridad. Bien harás en proveerlos para el viaje como conviene según Dios.
7 because for the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the Gentiles.
Pues por amor de su Nombre emprendieron el viaje, sin tomar nada de los gentiles.
8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
Por tanto, debemos nosotros acoger a los tales para cooperar a la verdad.
9 I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say.
Escribí algo a la Iglesia; pero el que gusta primar entre ellos, Diótrefes, no nos admite a nosotros.
10 Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, he doesn’t receive the brothers himself, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.
Por lo cual, si voy allá le traeré a memoria las obras que hace difundiendo palabras maliciosas contra nosotros; y no contento con esto, ni él recibe a los hermanos ni se lo permite a los que quieren hacerlo y los expulsa de la Iglesia.
11 Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God.
No imites, carísimo, lo malo, sino lo bueno. El que obra el bien es de Dios; el que obra el mal no ha visto a Dios.
12 Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.
Todos, y aun la misma verdad, dan testimonio en favor de Demetrio; nosotros también le damos testimonio; y tú sabes que nuestro testimonio es verídico.
13 I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen;
Muchas cosas tendría que escribirte, mas no quiero escribírtelas con tinta y pluma;
14 but I hope to see you soon. Then we will speak face to face. Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
pues espero verte en breve y entonces hablaremos cara a cara. La paz sea contigo. Los amigos te saludan. Saluda tú a los amigos uno a uno.
